  • Was your car under warranty or did you pay for this? I have the same problem and I don't have a warranty. What was your cost?

  • NICE I have the same car and same problem. mine sounds a little smoother than yours tho

  • please look at my 01 eclipse its makeing a loud grinding noise and i dont know what it is! It will stop if i restart the car or after it warms up. someone please help me. I will put a video response on this page. if you can not find it click my screen name and look for it. should not be hard i only have that video!

  • It sounds like a sticking lifter. Use some Marvel Mystery Oil. That should help.

  • It's a valve train noise. It's very common in the 3G eclipses and stratus R/T's it won't damage your engine it's more of an annoyance. If you really want it gone they offer an improved valve train kit. Other than that you're fine

  • My car made that same noise but it started making that noise when i changed the spark plugs it turns out that a washer fell down the intake and was stuck on the valve so i just took it out with a magnet

  • I would actually put half a court of auto trans fluid in it if its a lifter it will fix it

  • What do you mean by the header? The exhuast manifold gasket? I've had the same noise - replaced cams/tappets/cam support, still no luck.

  • balencer its a pullt thing on the left side i have it 2

  • I had a 2000 Eclipse GT, it's injector noise dude. Nothing to get all excited about.

  • it can easily be your lifters.. or your knock sensors.. I don't think its an oil pump problem... it could be low on oil.. but that would be your stupidity. I havea 93 ford probe with a simular tick. Go down to autozone or kragen (o reillys) and buy you some castrol gtx 20-50 oil. (Thick) then go by risoline to clean ur lifters. Start with that an see what happens

  • that motor looks a lot like a dodge avengers and im having the same problem

  • thats ur knock sensor man take off the intake by the valves and replace it

  • check your oil is may be running low if not use 4 quarts of castrol gtx and 1 quart of lucas oil my 01 eclipse was doing that and i was low on oil put some in a n it stopped

  • magaman, first off , i hope the deployment was safe. did you ever get around to fixing your lifter?

  • @superfly1842 thanks superfly, i got back safe, and the problem was a leak in the back header, so i replaced my headers and it did the trick.

  • @Megamanpr wow! it sounds just like my car, i wonder if this is what's wrong with mine. I'm now excited I may not have to tear my car apart after all! thanks for the conc!

  • @superfly1842 no problem, hope a quick fix :)

  • @Megamanpr check out how mine sounds(there is a video i uploaded titled whats this noise caused by?, just search my vids you'll find it :) , tell me if you agree on it sounding identicle or not. thanks

  • @superfly1842 it sounds just like mine before replacing my headers.

  • @Megamanpr that's the same same noise and in the same place as my eclipse...how much did it cost u to repair?

  • I got a 2000 eclipse gt and I got the same noise. It makes that noise when I turn it on but goes away in like 5 min. I know it shouldn't make that noise I just don't know what it is.

  • i got the same problem in my t bird 5.0 i just rebuilt the motor in it and forgot to change to oil i have that same tick i had a bad lifter but after changing it it still does it im not getting enough oil cuz my oil pump is just about gone which means y car is just about gone to

  • Buy a Panda, less noise, better looking!!!!

  • ya, its an oil delivery issue, all of the 4g63's with or without turbo's develop the tick, i have a 97 gst and i had a 93 talon tsi both have the 4g63 both have the tick, i put the oil cleaner into my eclipse and it did bring the pressure up, but it thins out the oil and will make the tick worse at idle, seafoam works great and replace your oil with some 15-50 royal purple, and say good bye to the tick until you have to do the pump, just a band aid fix.

  • valve tap i think... cant tell on video....

  • i never got the chance to fix it cuz i got deployed to iraq so, i hope ill get some hands on it soon...

  • my car also facing this problem...i tried to change all lifter but the sound still hear..i suggest to service the engine oil pump..after i service...its success....the oil pump locate in crankcase...dont change anything first..try to service the pump....its more cheapest.....gud luck bro...this problem accur bcoz not enough engine oil pressure...that couse yr lifter stuck..n making tapping sound

  • I know this vid is like a year old and all, but what did this end up being? My mitsu3KGT is making a noise like this..

  • Definitely the lifter, mine makes the same noise and it gets really bad if the oil level is down. I kinda screwed my motor on the first oil change (also first time I did an oil change) let's just say I forgot to check the oil filter seal, it spewed the oil out on my driveway, and I didn't notice until I had driven 2 miles. It runs, but that lifter click is there, albeit faint. (186k miles, '94 dodge spirit)

  • thats why you use full synthetic royal purple motor oil ;]

  • Same thing just happened to my stratus rt 3.0. If your oil light came on, your engine is toast, your oil pump crapped out and threw metal fragments all over inside your engine.

  • its a mitsubishi, that explains it all.

  • prolly a pulley of a belt that ticks

  • depends if it does on cold idle, hot idle...?

does it do in all revvs?

when u rev it to 2500RPMs then let lift the gas - does it stop or not? (its for big ends)

(but it sounds more like lifters...

  • Hey man, you ever figure out what the problem was? My 03 is doing the same thing :(

  • you i have the same problem and i now what is this this is the oil i have a 2000 nissan primera (G20) and mi car do the same of you car an i replace the oil and my car working good now (SORRY FOR MY ENGLISH I AM DOMINICAN)

  • I have a 2001 dodge stratus r/t. Same motor and same noise coming from the same location. Its a lifter tick that is very very common with these motors. The check valve in the lifter gets dirty and doesn't close all the way after the engine is shut off. There for oil leaks from the lifters giving you that noise till it warms up. Two things you can do 1) Use a engine cleaner to clean the check valve in the lifter, its a 50/50 chance. 2) Replace the lifter

  • get the 3mm lifters and change rockers... you will be set then. damn mitsu put 1mm for what reason, who knows !

  • My honda does this...It's a big problem I had to put another engine on...good luck my friend.

  • my friends did the same thing, prolly floated a lifter. common on these motors. look into and see if they sell bigger bore lifters for this car. normal tick for. i would pull the valve cover off and change the rockers and lifters. or try putting engine cleaner and oil cleaner through it like a BG product. could possibly solve your problem ! good luck !

  • Thanks you, im gonna try the oil cleaner thing tomorrow.

  • (if you haven't already fixed it some other way) Try slowly revving to 3000rpms over a span of 15 seconds then let the throttle out completely so it sharply drops back to idle. Do that 5 to 20 times. Solved my ticking on my 00' Eclipse 6g72.

  • the oil level is fine, i changed the oil 4 days ago and no leaks

  • my sebring has the same engine and does the same shit when i start it up for like a minute probably just till the oil gets up there have u checked the oil level it might be low
