  • Lol, stumbled on this guy while watching Von Ryan's Express, he looks ALOT like a good friend of mine, so I always nickname him "Johnny Leyton"

  • Joe Meek must have been one of the all time great record producers. The full sounds he created were truly magnificent.Atrue genius

  • Ja moin! Das heißt Gänsehaut pur ;)

  • Dit is pure kippenvel. Geweldig nummer!

  • @superbutterbrot Erklaer doch mal 'm dummen deutsch, was KIPPENVEL bedeuted. Sicher hollaendisch? Gruess dann bitte auch INGE aus Naarden.

  • he song this on the isle of wight last week he still is gret

  • saw him on the isle of wight last week he song this song just as good as when he started you are the best

  • I sure wish i was born in time for the 50's and early 60's. As much as i like some artists today....but the golden oldie era, had the cream of the crop. The biggest variety of talented stars

  • I agree with you, best years of my life the 60,s.Everything you say is so true. I too wish we could go back to then. we were all so happy in those days,so carefree and nothing much to worry about.Did,nt have to look over your shoulder to make sure you were not being followed by some undesirable ,like today, cause it was so safe, in them days.

  • "Yes he was in the movie: 'The great escape'.

  • ANOTHER GREAT ORIGINAL CLASSIC FROM JOHN AND JOE MEEK RECORDING WITH VERY SIMPLE EQUIPMENT==WE REALLY NEED PEOPLE LIKE THIS NOW!!!

  • He had a good voice. Do you remember him in the Great Escape?

  • In those halcyon days I worked outdoors and had the radio playing all the time so I heard the Pirate stations and never tired from the music. I recall summer of 1966 - winning the World Cup; and an easier going life style. There was a a fair bit of "grass" around but not like that terrible skunk. We were not so intense then as now;very Tom, Dick and Harriet having to go to Uni and then being unemployed for ever. - of for a time capsule. but we have the music and the memories it evokes.

  • First single I ever listened to on my brothers record player.

  • Joe Meek!

  • DavidJoy - totally agree 100% better days, happier days and no burkhas!

  • @rohansrider We are both so right.

  • great song when i was a youg lad

  • WHAT A BRILL TIME The 60's were just starting and it was magic to live through. The pirates and Caroline, all day music.Summers which seemed hot with parties and fun fun. Why did it end. They seemed simple times. No terrorism like today, No wags, overpaid footies, crazy bankers, girls and boys who drink to much. Oh we drank but we handled it so much better. Drugs, well i never saw any. I am 61 and I find myself reflecting on these times more and more. Oh if I could go back and have the energy.

  • @TheDavidjoy I agree one hundred percent , I am 62 now and the sixties were magical

  • @terrymags1 A lot of young people where I once worked used to quiz me about the 60's. They seemed to realise possibly from parents that it was a special time. What was it really like they would ask? Unless you were there it is hard to describe to someone who wasn't. It was a lot to do with the feeling we had that we were the new generation and that we could change things. We were not quite right, but for a time... Also of course the music just made your hair stand on end and you felt special.

  • @TheDavidjoy Gee thanks you just depressed me!

  • @McNabbulous Sorry pal, depresses me too when I think to much about it. lose yourself in the memories, it kinda helps.

  • @TheDavidjoy Its nice to see your comments and also those of many more.We all say the same things.Im 67 but still 20 at heart and like you remember those days. You cant put words together to try to explain the feelings deep inside the old memory banks. Long live the 60s and all who sailed in her.

  • @TheDavidjoy , just read your comment my friend , your mind is the same as mine absolutely brilliant time it was and i see you are the same age as me , if you ever find a time machine drop me a line i'll be there .

  • Geoff Goddard was a brilliant composer. Also a classically trained pianist. Love his playing on this song, very powerful and dramatic. Thanks for sharing.

  • Typical Joe Meek sound....fantastic !!

  • Great favorite since my teens!

  • Actually, I believe Leyton was an actor turned Singer!

  • yES HE WAS IN SOME FILMS..

  • @briartlaw He had a us tv show jerico were he played a commando with another singer don franks [then don franks had his own show coming round were he was a singing hippie ] .

  • @TheHarlequinsMusic petula clark ,steve marriot ,davey jones and the american tv host clay cole started out acting in musicals .

  • Don't know so much about John Leyton,

    but, I had a record of him , 1961-62

called Beautyful Dreamer, at that time I was 11-12 year, and that tune and rythm, took me to the heaven. Can't find it on U-tube, can somebody put it on U-tube

    Thanks,

  • Reminds me of the Sunday lunches we had in the 1960s after Hebrew classes. Jam tart and cream for pudding that Mum made!

  • bizzare, but why not

  • getting down with the jews, must have been a riot lol

  • I know so little about John Leyton. Except he was my grounding in 1961? Then I realised he was in "The Great Escape" (Movie)..

  • He also played one of the principal roles in KRAKATOA, EAST OF JAVA, 1969, at the side of Sal Mineo and Maximilian Schell.

  • I adore Leyton!

    thnxs 4 posting! :)

    x

  • I'm 17 years old and i love John Leyton songs, my Momma has got me hooked on them, especialy this one and she's 65, never knew old music was so cool

  • Ask your mam to tell yu about Billy Fury, and look him up on here.

Try, "Gonna Type a Letter" first.

  • Great then still great 5******..

  • brill

  • Lost in a movie. `The great escape``....

  • He had a US TV war series Jerico with another singer turned actor don franks .After jerico don franks grew his hair long and had a hippie kids show called coming round .

  • This has gotta be my fave John Leyton track........fantastic, thanks for this!

  • john leyton was no less than a genius, his singles were amazing, listen to that slightly off key piano, priceless, were the tornado's backing him on this.... punkle kevin xx

  • I always wondered why I liked that piano!

  • You have to remember though,it is unlikely he wrote much of his music.

More likely written by Joe Meek or someone like Geoff Goddard.

  • @NutmegPunkle

Johns a nice enough guy and decent actor, but NEVER a musical genius, he'd admit that. In fact he's a very average singer, and thats coming from a fan of his records and I've paid to see him sing live.

The REAL genius that created the whole sound of this record was the great Joe Meek, who I'm proud to say came from a hometown near mine in Glostershire.

  • @NutmegPunkle great singer yeah, but he didnt write this stuff, joe meek and geoff whatever his name is wrote and produced these etc.

  • He was a good actor, he was a good singer, he was a good looker :)

What more could you ask for :)

  • I was in love with him too and was lucky to marry a guy who looked like him. Sadlly my dear husban passed away in February. Thank you so much for this trip down memory lane, when Men wre indeed Men.

  • I'm really sorry to hear that, Taino700. Please accept my condolences.

I've posted a couple of other John Leyton singles -

"Six White Horses" and "Son This Is She". Hope you like them.

    Cpa'n Jim

  • Thank you kindly Cpa'n Jim.

  • Whoops. My spellign not so good. :)

    Cap'n Jim.

  • Yes, music like this was the soul of fairgrounds and arcades.

  • I was seriously in love with this chap. These were the days when MEN were MEN, and women were grateful!!!! Not so bad really. Not only that sounds were not enhanced to any degree, so good talent counted, and was recognised! Yes I am ancient, still alive, and full of life!!!

  • my parents were really into music and i was given a record player when i was seven, i remember playing this over and over again, i still love it after all this time, thanks

  • FANTASTIC!

  • He was a class act, and the Joe Meek production brings it to a higher plane - reminding us that there is no record that can't be improved by a bit of speeding up!

  • Hey..I too heard it first at the local fair..on the whipps..wow!!

  • Nice one eh? Thanks for comment.

  • yes..even the words Wild Wind were apt to those days in the fairgrounds..thanks for the reply...

  • I remember this being played while riding the fairground rollercoaster, I always thought it so suitable. Thanks for the video.

  • One of my greatest favorites!

  • Same Rhythm style as 'Telstar'

  • I have just seen John live only two days ago. He did this song and many more and he has been able to retain that wonderful voice. I was absolutely enthralled. Fantastic. And what great songs too.

  • I love this, could listen this over and over, thank you so much CaptainJimKirk!!! ;)

  • cool this is pritty good

  • Real nostalgic, reminds me of a walk through the tree lined streets of London in the late autumn or winter back in the early 1960s, while talking to a learned Jewish friend of mine Dr Hans Leo Lehmann!

  • love this song !! this is an old one ! takes me bak to my teenage yrs !and alot of memories! the best !thank you so much for this one its a classic !

  • he was in the great escape

  • Unmistakable and unique classic -never equalled (in my opinion) with psychic touch by Joe Meek.
