Has anyone got the famous moment where Janice Long, introducing David Cassidy on TOTP, said 'I used to have him on my bedroom wall', to which Peel responded; 'I had no idea you were so agile Janice'!
Ilxor mentions a show where he ran down the top ten, describing them all as "the multi-talented", until he got to Nik Kershaw, when he went "er". And wasn't there one where he lamented that Billy Joel had two songs in the charts at once?
Big Stick's "Drag Racing" song/video which was featured in "John Peel's Record Box" can be found at our youtube channel,,,, you're invited to visit... damn, we sure miss John....
I always remember his comment after Simple Minds' 'Ghostdancing' video had played..."That's the best video I've seen since teatime...and I had a late tea." :)
Indeed you need say no more. Davies and Brookes are both prats of the first order, and the USA was welcome to Brambles (although hasn't she come back here now?). Peel was and is a legend, obviously, although people only remember the slag-offs from his time as host as TOTP - if he liked a song, even if it was a song he wouldn't be expected to like, he'd say it, and he meant it. He made it very clear that he liked "Pass The Dutchie", for example, and at that moment he was right.
Yep he did, but with Musical Youth that was also because he was playing them on his radio show, before they made 'pass the dutchie', as I recallm it was because he was playing them that they got signed.

For a guy that said he wasn't a "TV person," he was about fifty times more charismatic than than most of the presenters you see.

My Dad would laugh like a drain when Peelie came out with one of these little quips on TOTP
(He bloody hated it when I started listening to the great man on the wireless though!)
