We have a half cat half lacy and the breeding on these dogs really does produce a near perfect combination of strength, agility, and attitude. Our pool 2 year old lab doesn't stand a chance any time they play.
My catahoula is one of my best obedience dogs, really high drive makes them a blast to work with. I'm training him to retrieve small game next, as he's a mix and so a bit smaller then your average hog dog.

As for the knife I bring one to make sure it's dead but I prefer to make it fast and simple with a brains out head shot (plus it looks cool through a scope),But if I must I go heart+lungs then neck is that the way you do it with a knife?

They've started to use the American Pitbull Terrier in the fight against wild pig encroachment as well. I don't really agree with the tormenting of these pigs in this video. I think it's cruel, but I do think using dogs to hunt and kill them in the wild is perfectly fine because one way or another, they pigs will need to be removed to preserve the natural wildlife and habitat. these dogs are bred as hunting/herding dogs we have 3. They can take down and kill any large animal, even large cattle. Some are trained to wait for the human to kill and others are supposed to just kill the animal, depending on how the owner trained the animal.

I'm on an eradication team where I live so I trap them and hunt them. Dogs have to be trained in a controlled environment

@mudder22k I hunt with dog and I also train all my dogs in the field. As for the knife I bring one to make sure it's dead but I prefer to make it fast and simple with a brains out head shot (plus it looks cool through a scope),But if I must I go heart+lungs then neck is that the way you do it with a knife?

Okay, here is how I see it if you think this video is sick or messed up don't watch it.
I own a Catahoula and its breed is meant for hunting. If you don't give this kind of dog enough exercise they pretty much go crazy. Honestly I don't understand why someone would complain about something like this then watch it, please go tell your sob story somewhere else because PETA can't help you here.

They've started to use the American Pitbull Terrier in the fight against wild pig encroachment as well. I don't really agree with the tormenting of these pigs in this video. I think it's cruel, but I do think using dogs to hunt and kill them in the wild is perfectly fine because one way or another, they pigs will need to be removed to preserve the natural wildlife and habitat. It gives the dogs a new job to do.

Hogs are true pests wherever they roam, but this is still animal cruelty. Shoot the damn things already. Hunting with dogs is the most efficient way to hunt wild hogs, which are a non-native species that causes millions of dollars of damage to crops and native eco-systems every year. these dogs are bred as hunting/herding dogs we have 3. They can take down and kill any large animal, even large cattle. Some are trained to wait for the human to kill and others are supposed to just kill the animal, depending on how the owner trained the animal.

You typically have "bay dogs" and "catch dogs". The catch dog is often something like a pit bull that will grab the hog by the ear and take it down or hold it in place until the hunter gets there.

These wild hogs are not native species where I live but they do an incredible amount of environmental and agricultural destruction--not to mention the impact they have on the habitat of other species that are native. they start reproducing around 3 months old and in a year their offspring and their offspring's offspring can yield over 100 hogs starting with just one sow. I'm on an eradication team where I live so I trap them and hunt them. Dogs have to be trained in a controlled environment

Exactly. Boar hunting is dangerous business and it takes teamwork for the dogs to stay safe. A good kennel can earn quite a bit for a well trained hog dog. I own two Catahoulas of my own - although I don't hunt mine - but I have quite a bit of experience with the breed.

my personal best dog is a mix ... 1/2 catahula leopard 1/4 black mouth cur which actually comes from catahulas and 1/4 pit bull... the only reason i have 1/4 pit is becuase thay love to hold on tight to there kill! but i wouldnt hunt all day with a full pit .. iv tried it before and there tired in 1 hour dont get me wrong they will never give up just slow down! my second best is my 1/2 Blood Hound and 1/4 leopard and 1/4 black mouth cur ... man o man can he sniff out a pig a mile away!
