This was my first Rainbow album.....kinda knew Ritchie from DP, but until you see him live you could no appreciate his playing. After that concert I went out a bought all the Rainbow I could find and then went back and relearned DP......who is the best singer....it doesn't matter DIO Bonnet, Turner all great voices....
@CuriosityRoads Bonnet better than Dio? What drugs are you on? Bonnet live was terrible. One of the reasons he got sacked from Rainbow was because of his poorer vocal abilities compared to Dio. The other reason was he was pissed and his boozing also got him fired from MSG.
@800764 I'm on a "drug" we like to call "common sense". Bonnet effectively quit Rainbow - he wasn't fired as such, and it had nothing to do with his "poorer vocal abilities" you dolt, Blackmore etc viewed Bonnet as EASILY Dio's equal in that department. Graham is not always great live but his material is MUCH more vocally demanding than Dio's comparitively easy stuff. You're on crack if you think Dio has the range/skill to sing any of Bonnet's Rainbow songs.
@CuriosityRoads Sorry but HE DID GET SACKED from Rainbow and MSG because of his drinking. This information, including his lesser vocal abilities compared to RJD is widely available if you care to search for it.
@CuriosityRoads Actually, he's correct about the drinking, its all over wikipedia and interviews, graham even admits it on stage during a performance of "desert song" in 2007 but I will say that I think Bonnet is better than Dio. Talent and musical preferences are subjective AND he was good enough to get the job in Rainbow despite him not looking the part at all, which was a massive concern for Blackmore. I like Bonnet better than Dio, comparing the two in skill doesn't make sense.
Down to Earth... one of the most underrated albums EVER... such a great album, you got RITCHIE BLACKMORE playing along with COZY POWELL and one of the greatest voices of rock n roll ever GRAHAM BONNET... but nobody seems to realize about it...
@elvengadorcerocho i admire dio s epic voice ,but i have to say graham bonnet is a great voicalist as well. diferrent kind of vocalist though.i have to say that graham bonnet kicks ass both in the rainbow and alkatrazz years.
@elvengadorcerocho Yeah ,man- I love Graham Bonnet's voice! And I love Dio and Joe Lynne Turner- so anyone that wants to argue that one is better than the other can piss off! The group made great music with all of them. Blackmore knows a great singer when he sees (hears) one.
@elvengadorcerocho Couldn't agree more! The more I listen to this album the more it grows, reckon that thisa is the standout track of the album Graham Bonnet deserved Better
I remember Scott his brother Dale Fred and my self used to go to Hollywood and go sit on Sunset or right on Hollywood Blvd and get fucked up and watch all the people and we would blare this song Fred used to have the most bitchen stereo in his little Dodge Dart.... Man o man Goooood Times
The 80's were good times for me.
Scott is dead Dale moved to Idaho Fred is still around but he got old like me
But I still dig this tune I hope they do too R.I.P. Scott This one is for you my friend
@smurf1ize OMG! What a great few lines! You've somehow captured such an immense time for you in such a small post. I remember all this happening happening during my last few years of secondary school. Blown away would be an understatement!! We sang the songs all day every day, played air guitar and wished ourselves anywhere but stuck in school!! I wish I could go back, but until the time machine is invented, long live you tube, long live Ritchie, and god bless everyone who follows and is a fan

I remember playing this song when I worked in a place called Holly Park in Seattle, which of course we called "Hollywood". Had to glam it up somehow: Holly Park is the slums, a government assisted housing project! I worked as an electrician there in the late '70s, when they decided it needed remodeling. It was built in the early '40s...hmmm, probably due for another remodel now!
i thought that was the original of System Of A Down's Lost In Hollywood :)

Bonnet is the only one that could ever fill RJD boots.
I like both of them. Bonnet has a lot of vibe in his voice. No one could ever sing Eyes of the World the same way as Bonnet.
DIO non the less is the greatest singer ever existed for rock music.
Just my 2 cents.

I'm pretty sure Judas Priest was highly influenced by the battery solo at the beginning when they composed Painkiller.
