My horse unexpectedly started cantering, but at least I found my balance in the first 3 seconds... But people are different, so there's no problem with that happening, you'll learn to find your balance! Beautiful horse, by the way!
@LoveMitchelMusso92 Wow. I have seen several videos where you have commented mean comments. Sure maybe he wasn't balanced. But he will get better if people like you stop stooping him! I've done it before, on a little shit called Fern... Trust me, she really HATED me. I went to give her a carrot and she bit me! >:'( she had it in for me... :/
I remember, like 4 years ago, I was jumping this really fast horse and I hadn't been taught to canter yet and the horse took off at the last jump into a canter almsot a gallop and i lost my stirrups and my reins, good job staying on hun :)
I remember in my second lesson of horseriding, i was trotting and then my horse started cantering! It was so scary so i know what it feels like to be in that situation. Just next time if tha happens try and sit down. Im only 11 in a few months and i just had my first lesson of cantering. That is why i know what to do.
Haha that I had a bad experience first time I canterd I went to a place were everyone was ahead of me in lessons and they were having fun cantering on there horses so I dicided I wanted to try so I did n one I was bumping up n down so much n two I couldn't stop!! So I ran down screaming ( I was 7 ) n I finally stopped haha
im glad i didnt canter for the first time yesterday in an englsih saddle, i was using my seat to have my horse go faster, and i was posting, and leaning forward a little, and everytime i lost the beat of my horses trot, i fell face forward onto the horn :P then he started cantering and i was like WEEEE but i stopped, then i was sad that i stopped, i did that 3 times lol!
You wer actuallry realley good :) iv been cantering for say 4 - 5 weeks now and its so easy to canter bareback no styrups and brideless really good though
@TheBarrelracer00 One-rein stops are not usually taught to beginners, and they shouldn't be, as that technique is easily abused. All this rider needed to do was sit back and relax; this was NOT a situation where a one-rein stop was warranted. Neither horse nor rider was terribly at fault here, and it's quite rude of you to decide that one inappropriate technique should be obvious to everyone.
@hidenseeker424 aparently you know nothing. i was taught this as soon as i was taught how to ride... when i was 5.... and it could be used. get your facts straight here and learn what your talking about!
@TheBarrelracer00 Your singular experience does not mean that EVERYONE is taught a one-rein stop or a pulley rein as soon as they begin riding. I wasn't, none of my trainers were, none of my rider friends were. A one-rein stop is, again, easily abused. A new rider often does not have the balance needed to stay seated while performing a one-rein stop. I will consider you well-qualified to know what you're talking about when you have the same experience as I do.
@PoppyandBobby I love it when people read back through comments: TheBarrelracer00 was actually the one being rude to this beginner, not me. I was, in fact, defending him.
My first canter was accidental on a new pony at the yard, i just tried to cling on and hope i didn't go splat. I was still mastering the skill of trotting/rising trot, balance ect... i was like 6/7 and when you get caught out it can be terrifiying. luckily i'm quite confident even from a young age i just got on with the job.
omg its Vally! haha i ride at jbra, too. and for those who are hating - valentino is an amazing horse. he's just slightly homicidal, as he has absolutely no ground manners and tries to literally kill people. usually, if you are riding him, he's a sweetheart. but, he's also a horse. he's not a machine. things like an unexpected canter happen. be happy :) afterall, i can barely ride valentino and i've been riding at jbra for 2 yrs. :)
OMG THE BABY SPAZZING OUT, LOL BEST EVER, hey :P i know you were scared and I completley understand. but you said u were working on your left rein, why? and you REALLY need to listen to your teacher when she says sit back. it was a slow canter, but i say again, i DO understand, but try to sit back next time.
horselover505 not to be rude but... that happened to me once and im not a beginner. the reason he would not sit back when she told him was becuase.... he lost his balance and once you lose your balance its pretty hard to regain it... its not easy to inturupt lost balance...okay.
I remember my first canter it was scarey and it felt so fast even though it wasnt, you handled it well. I prolly would have emergince dismounted lol. But that was last year now ive come a long ways and im sure you have too. :)
OMG the same thing happend to me!!! i was trotting with no sturrups and then the next thing i know the mare i ride named moon is cantering quite fast all over the place!!! first time cantering with no sturrups!! but i had the same problem slowing down. i threw all my waight foreward trying to slow her down with made her go FASTER!!! scary as HELL!!
I never would have stayed on like you did - good job! And when you're up in the saddle and scared - you tend not to hear the instructors advice to sit back - it all happens so fast. :-)
And suddenly, everyone is an EXPERT~! (like of course =.=)
Like sheez, it's already a good thing that he stayed in the saddle with such unexpecting for a first time without stirrups. I still am also an novice with that while I ride for nearly 5 years.. (Even though I don't mind, I'm just doing it for fun)
Lean back a bit and keep your elbows in and let the horses head move a bit x the more you lean back the better :) You'll be fine then :) Well done though for staying on wiht that jump into canter :P:)
Lean back a bit and keep your elbows in and let the horses head move a bit x the more you lean back the better :) You'll be fine then :) Well done though for staying on wiht that jump into canter :P:)
But I dont understand....canter is the smoothest gait of the horse(apart from walk which is incredibly boring so I dont count it), I've been cantering for 5 years now (and I'm 10 years old) and never one arched my back like that... and that horse wasnt actually trying to get you off his back you probably gave him too much leg
my horse did that to me, but i know how to canter. if you had sat up, relaxed, and sat back, you would of had a better seat, but otherwise, good job staying on!
me and my ponny were trotting to warm up when he shot off in canter all around the arena it was REALLY fun although my cheeks where red from the coldness cause it was in december
if you look, the horse has his ears pinned down for a good five sections before he burst into the canter--obviously there was something next to him he didnt like! alway keep an eye out for horse body language in preparation for those kinds of things!
@jumpn4horses i ride there too. valentino always does that. he is just... him. haha. i know its not good to laugh and im not but still he always does that.
This happened to me a few years ago. I was trotting and all of a sudden I was bounced up into the air and I lost my left stirrup. I almost fell into the fence but thankfully I was able to hold on tight while my horse was at a full gallop!
haha samee but i wasnt galloping.. i was just cantering when i never did yet.. but i started cantering like 2 weeks ago after like 4 monthes of started.. but i ride everyother weekend.. soo yeah
Lmao he actuli bucks at first but not much just a tad , the horses ear go flat back 3 seconds and then at 5 seconds is when he has a bit of a jump, well done tho !
what the heck, she should be saying sit back instead of relax.... relax... relax... relax... he ain't gonna relax xD He needs to know how to sort it out lmao.
oh i see i saw a comment where you said ur a beginner, i was like wtf r they doing. leaning forward. are they patting the horse:L well done for being a beginner and sitting that. but it wasnt terribly bad from the horse he did well, considering he got a bit spooked :] xx
But if youre scared you didnt hear things like that everytime. Youre just thinking: shit, how the hell i can stay in the saddle. You really need some experiance to think clear and logical. And she stayed on the horse, thats everything that counts, right?
its true that u should sit back, but sometimes when your trying to stay on, or in a situation like that, u kinda block out everything. You try to do it but you dont. It happened to me once. the horse freaked out over a jump and the trainer said to sit back and i couldnt
Thanks guys for your comments. Actually I was busy trying to get my left rein back that time. LOL, I was only holding one rein on my right hand, and could not stop him! LOL And if you noticed, my left foot was out of the stirrup too... So the situation is tough for me, especially I did not canter before.
@yfellow2008 the same thing happened to me and when you dont know how to canter its really scary and its hard to listen to what your trainer is telling you to do .
btw. i love the backround of the worried person. "Oh my god. Can you please get him off this horse?" hahhaha its okay though. my mom wont even watch me jump. She says watching the horse leave the ground with me on top makes her nausous hahahhaha Im like yeah get over it. XD
What part of sit back did you not get?? The horse didn't throw you in the air. He simply jumped a little forward and you let him. I don't believe that you would have ever cantered before then though. Because if you know the motion of a canter you wouldn't be so green to the idea. Even without your stirrups you still would have sat back. If you had cantered before then.
okay give him a break! hes a BEGINNER. he didnt know what the heck was goin on and he was probably scared to death! He did a good job just not fallin off! XD dont listen to them hunny! You did great! XD
Thanks Machiatoluver. Yes, I am a beginner. The video was recorded on the 3rd month of my training. Believe or not, I was very very scared, and felt so unstable and fast! LOLzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......
Matter of fact, Valentino is a great horse. He is the 3rd level Dressage Horse. He knows a lot of things. But really, he was a little bit advanced for me to ride that time. Now I have my own horse, her name is Happy. But I ride Valentino sometimes. I've had a lot of fun with him.
Same with me, im in Florida and i went to a horse came and im just riding on my fav horse around a circle lol [not a lungering ring but a field] and it suddenly TOOK OFF like almost gallopping theyre like ''PULL BK@ RELAX!'' im like ''I CANT!'' so i did and im like ''ok.....that was fun...not doin that again w/e i did''
ok i know this video is old, but just in future, when that happens, your automatic reaction is to lean forward and hang on, but to stop the horse you need to sit BACK and put your weight on your horse's back. nice job staying on though :)
man when i was that age i wanted to canter more than anything!! but i was also the only girl in the neighborhood who played with the wild snakes we found in the backyard too. i was a strange child... haha great job staying on the horse though! next time remember to lean back though. it would have slowed your horse down. leaning on his neck like that probably encouraged him to go faster.
im 13 and i have been cantering for about 3 months..and let me tell ya its not easy at first.......but once you get the hang of it, its alot better (and fun ) but don't be afraid to just go. i don't even like to think about when i am about to go. =] good job staying on though! i know how that feels!
Please Help Me, I Am 12 And A Beginner Rider, I Can Do Canter On The Lunge But I Am Teribbly Afraid Of Doing It Now On My Own, Because Last Time I Did Canter (On My Own) She Flew Off And Did Gallop And I Managed To Stay On Please Help ;] xx
im 12 as well and i have been cantering for 2 months. i have improved a lot and it is easy once you get going. i didnt ever have the option of a lounge line. i have a video up of my first canter if it will help you. my best advice is to dont worry and try your best. its not scary at all.
I did that, too. Before I could canter decently, I was trotting w/out stirrups on one of the best horses at the barn. Unfortunately, I had one leg farther back, and so Sammy, the horse, thought I wanted him to canter. So he did. And I was attempting to stay on, but eventually I fell off. Only a bruise, though. My trainer had a time of it trying to convince me to trot w/out stirrups again.
Except I was on a horse that decided that canter wasnt good enough and went into a gallop and I had no stirrups lol. When we got to the end of the ride he slowed down and I thought the was going to stop but he didnt he did a sudden turn and I went flying of the other side lol ended up with a broken rib lol :P Im not a beginner rider but no matter how much experience you have the unexpected still happens!!
ohh, I think i know this barn, isnt it the Jamaica Bay Riding Academy? I used to ride there when I was younger. Well good job staying on, must've hurt bouncing around like that...
My trainer is Tommy. It seems like you are a "Casper lover" too. I like Casper a lot. I put down deposit to release him on Dec 08, but at the same week, some one bought him. Yes, he is still in the barn.
I did the EXACT same thing! (except I had stirrups). It was before I knew how to canter, last winter, and a horse Stanley started to canter. I got so freaked out, so I did exactly what you did; went into 2-point and tried to sit back!
your instructor was saying sit back, sit back, sit back, why werent you listening, it would have been much more comfortable because i do no stirruped canter all the time
hey, whats important is that you admit that you are a beginner and you did your best. If you were an expert rider sure, itd be appropriate to critique. But since you are a beginner, no one should be on you. You didnt claim to be a pro
hahah... The reason for that was... since he threw me up the air, and I lost my left stirrup and a rein. I was trying to grab the rein to halt him. hahahha....
Valetino was a little bit wild for me to ride that time... but now he is no more. Everything is under control. He really gives me a feeling of the improvements that I have.
kk. u need to be nice!!!!!! atleast he DID stay on!!!!!!!! let's see u handle it like that after riding for only 4 months!!!!!!!!!! u need to grow up and learn some respect for other riders. atleast he is trying!!!!! yfellow2008 good job staying on! i'm proud of u! and btw this video was added the day i got my horse!!!!!! ^_^

@yfellow2008 the same thing happened to me and when you dont know how to canter its really scary and its hard to listen to what your trainer is telling you to do .

@Horselover505 you can only do some much if ur struggling to stay on.....

Stormy770 2 years ago
btw. i love the backround of the worried person. "Oh my god. Can you please get him off this horse?" hahhaha its okay though. my mom wont even watch me jump. She says watching the horse leave the ground with me on top makes her nausous hahahhaha Im like yeah get over it. XD
Machiatoluver 2 years ago
What part of sit back did you not get?? The horse didn't throw you in the air. He simply jumped a little forward and you let him. I don't believe that you would have ever cantered before then though. Because if you know the motion of a canter you wouldn't be so green to the idea. Even without your stirrups you still would have sat back. If you had cantered before then.

okay give him a break! hes a BEGINNER. he didnt know what the heck was goin on and he was probably scared to death! He did a good job just not fallin off! XD dont listen to them hunny! You did great! XD
Machiatoluver 2 years ago 39
Thanks Machiatoluver. Yes, I am a beginner. The video was recorded on the 3rd month of my training. Believe or not, I was very very scared, and felt so unstable and fast! LOLzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......
Matter of fact, Valentino is a great horse. He is the 3rd level Dressage Horse. He knows a lot of things. But really, he was a little bit advanced for me to ride that time. Now I have my own horse, her name is Happy. But I ride Valentino sometimes. I've had a lot of fun with him.

ok i know this video is old, but just in future, when that happens, your automatic reaction is to lean forward and hang on, but to stop the horse you need to sit BACK and put your weight on your horse's back. nice job staying on though :)
horseyjill28 2 years ago
thats why in the future your riding instructers will have u practice cantering w.o stirrups! its a good skill to have =)

man when i was that age i wanted to canter more than anything!! but i was also the only girl in the neighborhood who played with the wild snakes we found in the backyard too. i was a strange child... haha great job staying on the horse though! next time remember to lean back though. it would have slowed your horse down. leaning on his neck like that probably encouraged him to go faster.
horseyjill28 2 years ago
no wonder he cantered! he did not look very happy? What did u do?take away his food? = 3
astargirl101 3 years ago 2

Please Help Me, I Am 12 And A Beginner Rider, I Can Do Canter On The Lunge But I Am Teribbly Afraid Of Doing It Now On My Own, Because Last Time I Did Canter (On My Own) She Flew Off And Did Gallop And I Managed To Stay On Please Help ;] xx
SiMmYbBz 3 years ago
im 12 as well and i have been cantering for 2 months. i have improved a lot and it is easy once you get going. i didnt ever have the option of a lounge line. i have a video up of my first canter if it will help you. my best advice is to dont worry and try your best. its not scary at all.
hope i helped

I understand. just remember to keep your heels down, short reins and lean back. Just keep trying and you'll get it.
horsecrazy098 2 years ago
I did that, too. Before I could canter decently, I was trotting w/out stirrups on one of the best horses at the barn. Unfortunately, I had one leg farther back, and so Sammy, the horse, thought I wanted him to canter. So he did. And I was attempting to stay on, but eventually I fell off. Only a bruise, though. My trainer had a time of it trying to convince me to trot w/out stirrups again.
Susie369 3 years ago
Hey I have done that lol
Except I was on a horse that decided that canter wasnt good enough and went into a gallop and I had no stirrups lol. When we got to the end of the ride he slowed down and I thought the was going to stop but he didnt he did a sudden turn and I went flying of the other side lol ended up with a broken rib lol :P Im not a beginner rider but no matter how much experience you have the unexpected still happens!!
sexcchicky666 3 years ago
ohh, I think i know this barn, isnt it the Jamaica Bay Riding Academy? I used to ride there when I was younger. Well good job staying on, must've hurt bouncing around like that...
polishhorserider 3 years ago
Yes, it is JBRA.
yfellow2008 3 years ago
ohh, yea who teaches you?? I had Jill but I think she left. Is Casper still there?
polishhorserider 3 years ago
My trainer is Tommy. It seems like you are a "Casper lover" too. I like Casper a lot. I put down deposit to release him on Dec 08, but at the same week, some one bought him. Yes, he is still in the barn.
yfellow2008 3 years ago
I did the EXACT same thing! (except I had stirrups). It was before I knew how to canter, last winter, and a horse Stanley started to canter. I got so freaked out, so I did exactly what you did; went into 2-point and tried to sit back!
RightforYou1 3 years ago
your instructor was saying sit back, sit back, sit back, why werent you listening, it would have been much more comfortable because i do no stirruped canter all the time
Agilitypoodle385 3 years ago
For the beginner like me, it was not easy.
yfellow2008 3 years ago
hey, whats important is that you admit that you are a beginner and you did your best. If you were an expert rider sure, itd be appropriate to critique. But since you are a beginner, no one should be on you. You didnt claim to be a pro
equineangel91 3 years ago
Awesome job staying on!
HorseLvr92 3 years ago
wow. were you afraid of falling off?
SuperstarShelby 3 years ago
wow. special. u are absolutely terrible at riding!!!!!
ThunderMyBoi 3 years ago
Thanks for your comment. You are right, I was so terrible at riding. I started riding on January this year.
However, I rode Valentino again today. Things changed!
yfellow2008 3 years ago
oohhhh well thats good. just if that ever happens again, sit back! lol i could hear your trainer saying that 500 times! lol
ThunderMyBoi 3 years ago
hahah... The reason for that was... since he threw me up the air, and I lost my left stirrup and a rein. I was trying to grab the rein to halt him. hahahha....
Valetino was a little bit wild for me to ride that time... but now he is no more. Everything is under control. He really gives me a feeling of the improvements that I have.
yfellow2008 3 years ago
ohh thats kinda funny lol. im glad ur improving!
ThunderMyBoi 3 years ago
kk. u need to be nice!!!!!! atleast he DID stay on!!!!!!!! let's see u handle it like that after riding for only 4 months!!!!!!!!!! u need to grow up and learn some respect for other riders. atleast he is trying!!!!! yfellow2008 good job staying on! i'm proud of u! and btw this video was added the day i got my horse!!!!!! ^_^
