tilapia is low-class farm raised fish. not a cynic here, just a waiter at a seafood restaurant. i encourage people to try other things than tilapia, and everytime they do they are very happy. if the fish is too "fishy" it is bad, not in general just that piece. isn't it strange that tilapia is never fishy?
I tried this tonight. I didn't have corn meal so I used "honey cornbread" mix instead. Also didn't have the pepper. It came out great!!! Very tasty. Thanks again.
@ChefTips LOL. I watched a show and they were showing how Brazilian tilapia are kept in captivity and they're kind of nasty. I'm a fan of swordfish but I heard they're loaded in mercury nowadays.
Thanks for the recepie, here in south of Brazil, tilapia is an easy to get fish and really not expensive one. I like it a lot and can't wait to do your recepie.
I eat this twice a week - I bread it & bake it - squeeze some lime on it & serve it up with homemade baked potato chips & spinach. I actually like the taste of this fish over flounder & salmon, go figure, nice video!
Tilapia sounds like awesome dieting food for someone still growing like me but is watching what they eat! Thanks! I'm soooooo telling my mom about this fish ^w^ love your videos!
Tilapia has higher levels of potentially detrimental long-chain omega-6 fatty acids than 80-percent-lean hamburger, doughnuts and even pork bacon, the inflammatory potential of hamburger and pork bacon is lower than the average serving of farmed tilapia.
When i cook tilapia i know it's done when it falls apart and is soft, not hard. And I've been cooking this stuff for years now, not to test your skills but i know it's suppose to fall apart so easily.
it would be so exciting too if we could be sure that the tilapia we eat is so fresh .... fresh from the pond.... check out my link and see wha I mean!
your videos are really good. I was wondering if you do a video on must have pots and pans and how to take care of them so they last as long as possible. Thanks
its also great with "PAKSIW" style cooking, just have to simmer it with water, vinegar, chillies, onions and ginger and dash of sugar. popular dish in the philippines.
I have a question....can we sautee tilapia without cornbread,I mean with just salt and pepper? I do Salmon fillets with just salt and pepper.Just checking with you before I try it tonight. Thanks again for this awesome recipe....I love FISH !!!
Hello, yes you can omit the cornmeal. I would lightly coat the filets with some olive oil and then hit them with some S&P. Place in a pre-heated pan with a bit more olive oil. Sautee' on both sides until done. Hope this helps.
Tilapia is St. Peter's Fish. . In the Philippines, Tilapia is very popular. Thre 3 kind, Native-small dark gray mostly in the creeks, brooks and ricflds. yo chef, could you please tell about some brief information regarding your "tilapia"? cuz here in the philippines we have a tropical fish called tilapia and if im not mistaken, its native in here, so im pretty sure that the tilapia im talking about is not the one your cooking.. how was that?
Hello. I am not sure if this is the same tilapia that you have in the Philippines. Most tilapia in today's stores are aquacultured or farm raised. Tilapia is also known as St. Peter's fish, and in Hawaii it is known as Hawaiian sun fish.
Diced tilapia Shrimp Bay scallops Capers Red bell pepper Red onion Cilantro Haas Avocado Fresh Lime juice Kosher salt I toss everything together in a glass bowl and let it marinate in the fridge for 24 hours. Then it's party time!

Thanks for the recipe, Jason! I made it a few days ago, and it was DE-LI-CIOUS! Had it with a nice glass of wine and WOW! Thanks again. I'm off to making Tortilla Soup for dinner, as it's become a family favorite.
You and Veronica are such great people, so it's the least I could do to thank you for all the delicious recipes and informative videos. You both take good care!
Tilapia is a crapy tasting fish , it shouldnt be ur so called top 10, it sucks, i rather eat a great tasting crappie or bluegill any day of my life but not that crapy-ass mexican want-a-be sunfish, but i think ur recipe would go good with some fried sea bass...... o yea people dont waste ur time eating this crapy fish, eat a stripper or something
looks great. I like the aspect of toasting the corn meal and also how you plated the dinner was fantastic. I have a grilled squid recipe with an out of this world sauce on my account so check it out!
I tried Tilapia for the first time about a year ago at Denny's of all places and became an instant fan of the fish. Before that, I didn't even know what it was. I was surprised at how cheap the price of it was at the grocery store. I'll definitely have to try your recipe. Looks great!

Thanks for the recipe, Jason! I made it a few days ago, and it was DE-LI-CIOUS! Had it with a nice glass of wine and WOW! Thanks again. I'm off to making Tortilla Soup for dinner, as it's become a family favorite.

Ha! lol!
It was a local cooking class/show for our local community. Far from the big time, but still lots of fun to do!

I tried Tilapia for the first time about a year ago at Denny's of all places and became an instant fan of the fish. Before that, I didn't even know what it was. I was surprised at how cheap the price of it was at the grocery store. I'll definitely have to try your recipe. Looks great!
