i love pt and floyd too, cant you hear all the infuences from floyd though,, so many tracks from all their albums come from similar soundscapes to floyd. nothing wrong with that of course ,,, in fact id say pt had an awful lot more talent than floyd, esp the drummer. anyone can drum like nick mason
Hi im kinda new to PT, can someone please guide as to what songs are the ones tht i wud need to hear to fall in love with them... Not tht I haven't already after listening to Sound of the muzak... thot it was amazing !!.
It really depends on what you want to hear. If you want something with more a "pop" edge go for Stupid Dream or Lightbulb Sun. Anything after that is heavier, and anything before that is much more psychadelic/proggy. Personally, I think In Absentia is their best album, so I recommend that. They are a band where you need to listen to whole albums, not just single songs.
Well actually their later albums are pretty proggy, in addition to being heavy. They are an album oriented band, but to give chinmaymenon suggestions, here's what I would listen to:
The Moon Touches Your Shoulder - the sky moves sideways
@Qazic12 Thanks a ton !! i posted that comment some 4 months back !! now im sucha big PT fan tht i feel stupid not to have started listenin to them earlier..
Hey thanks once again !! Loved listenin to most of em.. especially Gravity Eyelids, Trains,Collapse the Light into Earth and many more.. stil have to get Lightbulb Sun
I would personally check out The Incident, listen to the whole record. It pretty much gives you a complete overview of what they are all about and then go backwards from there.
@chinmaymenon Listen to their whole catalogue. Don't listen to separate songs. Listen to full albums because PT's albums have to be listened from A to Z because it's a whole with a concept and it's a very nice journey! And buy their albums if you like them! :) Cheers!
Haahhahahahaa, ........Steven: Actually it's just me. Wow. XD. This sounds like the intro to Veneno para the hadas from Steven Wilson's album "Insurgentes".
Yeah for the Insurgentes album. Veneno Para las hadas. It doesn't matter anyways. They sound alike. And it's not complicated. I never said it was Smart Ass.
i never said you said that; you were just making things complicated. that song sounds like this, because this came first, chronologically. next topic.
Do you research! Let me put it in Order for you!!!!! On a sunday life Up the downstairs Stair case infinities Sky moves sideways Signify Stupid dream Lightbulb sun Recordings In Absentia Deadwing Lazarus (single) Fear of a blank planet Nil Recurring The Incident By the way Insurgentes is not a Porcupine tree album. It's a Steven Wilson album. Now, you write back to me and tell me where you can find Veneno para las hadas in any other album. Sky moves sideways came out in 95.
I am aware of the sequence that these go in, it was unnecessary for you to list them. The Sky Moves Sideways came out BEFORE Insurgentes--this I have been aware of the entire time. So it makes more sense to say that Veneno sounds like The Sky moves Sideways and not the other way around, because The Sky Moves Sideways came out first. This arguing is truly stupid.
Alright screw it. Either way they both sound alike. lets leave it at that.
Oh and by the way if this arguing IS TRULY STUPID! Then why do you persist!? I mean after all your the one that thinks this is stupid. RIGHT? maybe you should PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH.............
man u forgot a lot, first it's called on the sunday of life, u dindt tell coma divine, Futile EP, incignificance, metanoia, moonloop, out absentia, stars die: The delerium years, stranger by the minute EP, Tarquin's Seaweed Farm, The sky moves sideways, VOYAGE 34!!!, Xmii and Yellow Hedgerow Dreamscape... btw sorry for my bad english lol
I already know about those as well. And most of them happen to be live performances. Don't try me dude. Seriously. I'm really aware of those. I'm not oblivious. Later!
I really like what he did with this song. While it's difficult to compare this to the full 18 minutes of Phase One, it's still a nice companion piece.
Dammit.. Steve skipped the intro. It's one of the most beautiful 4 minutes of soundscaping I've ever heard, and he fucking skipped it :(. Still a good song tho.
This sucks without everyone else's parts.

@TheEgg185 There's nothing wrong with a song being a sad song. It has depth and emotion, you have to take it for what it is and how it was meant

@TheEgg185 If you find it sad, then you don't find it boring.

Whys it really matter? the sequence that the albums were made doesn't effect anything unless he was implying a cretin chronology and meaning to it.
this "old song" sounds like your "new song"
your "new song" sounds like this "old song"
who really cares, unless hes trying to convey a meaning beyond simply noticing a similarity between 2 songs by the same artist.
i mean the way you are saying it

what is steven using to make that sound?
ricardo1925 3 years ago
I believe he's using a volume pedal on his electric guitar and it's set to a simple clean tone with light phaser.
It's majestic on how resourceful he is, and still able to make something so beautiful.
Kathedral5 3 years ago 16
@Kathedral5 Do you know, you can do it with the volume control too, It gives it another feeling, maybe he's using It..

capillarian187 3 years ago
That's because all he had with him was an acoustic guitar.
That is, of course, not saying that he couldn't have simply made swooshy noises with his mouth. XD
hybridizedstudios 3 years ago 3
I think, the refrain is genious enough... shurely, it is a masterpiece which is - a little bit - difficult to play only with an acoustic guitar...
BenniMuzak 3 years ago
Sounds to me like the guitar is electric.
bRain524 3 years ago
