  • @barefootradio... the singer for the early petra .(including this album), was Greg X Volz. John Schlitt replaced him later.. i believe in 1986ish This Means War album?

  • Frankly I don't know the singer's name, but I listened to Petra since I was a kid, and this guy has incredible pipes. His range is amazing. I've heard few singers with such skill. I'd compare him to Ronnie James Dio!

  • Brings back some great memories of my college football days, working out to Petra's "not of this world" tape (early '80s); the inspiration I received to "walk by faith" knowing that if we "occupy" and "lift Him up" we will not be ashamed when we stand before Him at the "bema seat". Blessings and thank you "unknown PetraFan" for your labor of love for the Body of Christ

  • These albums shaped me for life after I became a christian in 1985, I used to jam my Steinberger bass to all these songs just by ear.

Now seeing these on youtube has me jammin again, much to my wife and daughter's amusement. Me and wife are christians and daughter is being led as well.

Continue to pray for us to continue the good walk.

  • Why is it that radio stations like K-Love ignore the older Christian hits like this one (and many more) and play the newer songs over and over and over and over..... These songs are as good (if not better) sounding than the ones that have come out lately. "Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever"!!!

  • @CJurasin hey bro. thats a good question. after 20+ years in ccm, my answer is that ccm has mainly fallen outta .love with jesus and fallen in love with self and money...thats why all the new bands dress, sound, write, and pose the same way. these dudes were "god 's rebels" back when ccm was really made fun of..

  • @CJurasin

    amen!

  • @CJurasin There are two reasons. One reason, consultants have taken over the entire radio industry. Every station, no matter the format, play the same 300 or so songs over and over, lather, rinse, repeat.

Let me disclaim with the second... I love this old christian rock. I reminisce and sometimes worship. Petra got a raw deal from the ccm establishment, but got their vindication in 1991. reason #2 is to be continued...

  • @TheSteeletube reason #2: We do not live in 1983 anymore. We are in a different season of God's annointing. A new calling to creativity of music that spiritual revelation comes. Third Day is to me the new Petra. We need new music to come out of the new season of great awakening we are about to enter into.

  • @TheSteeletube Sorry, I'm not buying that answer..... ANY song that lifts Jesus up and brings people to the saving knowledge of HIS love is worth listening to again. Many of the CCM songs that were written in the '80s and '90s fit VERY WELL into what's going on today (borken people and broken lives) and most kids today have NEVER heard them because nobody plays them. A PRIME example are the Petra songs listed on the right....they've got TEETH, and kids today need that.

  • @CJurasin you make a good point ablbeit idealistic. We can't go through our evangelistic walk like our elders have done singing the same 100 to 200 year old songs from previous moves of God. The youth and adults need something contemporary. Now understand, that Petra songs along with those from other artists from the past should be placed in light play, Maybe there is a call on someone to put together a classic ccm format.... hmmm

  • @CJurasin 'cause its a Capitalist society........NOT christian. DUH>

  • @CJurasin I've often thought the same thing. Is it that the DJs, station managers, etc., are young and unfamiliar with the classics? Or is K-LOVE beholden to play only whats on a limited playlist?

  • It's too bad Petra's "Ultimate Collection" CD left off so many good songs like this one....

  • @CJurasin All greatest hits releases seem to leave songs out. GH CD's are more for the consumer who is not a die hard fan. The die hard just should spend the money and get the albums/CD's

  • @TheSteeletube Yes, "light play" is far better than "no play" by a LONG shot. Petra and CCM bands like them (from the '80s and '90s) are pretty much forgotten on Christian Radio today, and it's sad. Some of these songs might reach people that aren't being reached by the songs of today. As for some of the old Hymns you mention...many of them have BEAUTIFUL melody and the words are taken DIRECTLY from Scripture. THOSE songs DEFINITELY have a place today and always....

  • PETRA = encouraging lyrics, cool musicianship, great vocals!

  • @jimmmmie

you said it, bro. i always preferred greg x's vocals. it meshed so well with the music. bob and kerry of kansas had such a similar tone and attack in there guitars, you can hear the influence. petra was indeed an anointed band. that oil of consecration still rings true today
