I need some help on maya, i trying to create a tight suit for my female character. do guys have and tips on what to do, i try to use ncloth but it not working really for me
UGH!!!! THANK YOU!!!!!! THANK YOU!!!!! *bows down to you* I'm such a noob with 3d software and I decided I'd take on Maya first. *slaps herself* This video helped me out of a tantrum I was about to throw over my future, talents, etc. because I couldn't figure out that ONE BEND DEFORMER. I've been going absolutely crazy trying to find good videos on deformers, but I kept coming across tuts too basic for what I already know and other videos with dudes trying to speak English to me, but failing.
pw3uk - Well a deformer can be used for so many things and in so many ways it's impossible to sum it up in here. My advice is to go in Maya and use all of the deformers...just experiment with them and do everything with them to simple geometry. You will immediately see the possible applications.
@PolyNurb Ya using bend deformer with a plane is ok but how to bend a Polygon cylinder as i am attempting a animation of " Olympic high jump with a stick which needs to bend befoe jumping can u help me ?
"brontok19" Not that I endorse downloading software like that...but it's possible you downloaded PLE version. Either way Maya 8.0 is one the worst releases of Maya as of late. It has lots of bugs, crashes more frequently than other versions and just plain around has memory issues. Either use Maya 7.0 which was a great version with all the tools you would ever need or get ahold of Maya 8.5...which is a very robust version with not nearly as many bugs. Maya 2008 is due out shortly too.
Yeah I don't know too much about Max though I do own a legal copy of version 8....I can use it, but never dived too deep into it myself. Yeah Maya can be more complex in some ways, and in some really easy. Non-Linear Deformers are pretty useful for a ton of things, I just demonstrated one basic use for it I personally like.
so much work for a simple bend ...I don't want to diss maya ...but in 3d max it's so much easier ..just select modifier et voila ...rotate?scale gizmo or whatever ....They are bothe great , powerfull programs ,I know max really well , just don't have the guts to delve into maya ..maybe I'd just download the trial ..would be nice to know 2 programs inside out ..cheers
1:42 at about 1.45 you make a rude noise with the nose.
So, delete this and do it again without the rude nose noise.

Shocking !

Thanks alot for the tutorial. ^_^ I kept forgetting how to bend things from the Z axis, so this helps out a lot to refresh my memory.

Alternatively, instead of deleting all your history, you can duplicate your geometry. That also keeps the shape. Good stuff though. This helps alot.
