Yes. INDEX and MATCH can do everything that VLOOKUP can do and MUCH more. INDEX and MATCH are much more versatile. However, more people know how to use VLOOKUP than INDEX and MATCH, so in some circumstances it may be better to tailor a formula that uses VLOOKUP. Here are some references videos:

Hi, i enjoy watching your vidoes and our a great help. You make it easy. I needed to know do you have a video on using look up with mutliple criteria. I am aware of using index and match funbction. But what if there are multiple outputs.
eg. the output function has Weekly tasks for Ajay for the period of jan. There maybe 10 tasks for ajay. Please advise.
I'm having troubles to find and download the workbook for this lesson. May you help me by providing the link. Thanks and congratulation for your excellent job here.
thx so much man i looked at 2 of ur vids, both of em helped me with 2 of my problems in my spreadsheet. its kinda hard to find help for my exact problem, but u hit it on the head twice. you are 2 for 2 right now, keep it up
Be sure to search YouTube for "excelsisfun", then go to the excelisfun channel, then watch the how to find videos I have posted - it will help you find exactly what you want.
A formula like this would work if the AB 02 ABC was in cell A1, the number was always 2 characters longm, and the lookup table was on a sheet called Data:
could you tell me how you would look up the "02" value in the cell b24 please, im really stuck and need to know how to look up a value within the cell
If you want to return the "02" value from the cell B24, what is the lookup_value (the first argument in VLOOKUP)? Please explain your setup more clearly and I will try to help.
I've been looking for these formula's for ages, cheers mate.

the lookup value in this case would be B24,
basically i have this in a cell:
[AB 02 ABC]
i need to ignore the first AB to read the 02
once i have done this i will be able to lookup a value from an array in another worksheet
carlm189 2 years ago
Dear carlm189,
A formula like this would work if the AB 02 ABC was in cell A1, the number was always 2 characters longm, and the lookup table was on a sheet called Data:
=VLOOKUP(LEFT(REPLACE(A1,1,FIND(" ",A1),""),2),Data!$C$11:$D$13,2,0)
