@great456789 I don't usually respond to YouTube trolls, but I have a free evening, so: I'm not so sure you have the experience or authority to make that comment. A thumbless grip provides more power to the lift, and represents zero danger. I have never seen someone drop a barbell on themselves from overhead, using a thumbs or thumbless grip. The good news is if for some reason you have terrible physical coordination and manage to drop the bar hey!, it just falls to the floor!
@TheAscendant ...well from what i have heard, read and what i can say just by thelogic of things is that a thumbless grip does not give you more power during an exercise where triceps is activated since triceps gets activeted also by gripping the bar as hard as you can - which you cannot do with a thumbless grip... ...i have never really tried it myself so i cannot speak from experience with heavy weights but i can see a differance when i do not grip the bar properly...
As long as he controls it on the way down there isn't anything wrong with exploding out of the box like that. It's actually a better method because you use alot more strength trying to lift it slow. If you explode with it or any other lift you can use that extra strength for more weight or reps.
@rockabillysilly ...pressing the bar as fast as you can is pretty much the main objective while powerlifting... ...one can hardly lift as much weight going slow as they can going as fast as they can...
Nice. I've been hitting that exact exercise lately and it seems to help the explosion from the bottom. How much you weigh these days? You look pretty beefy. Great job.
I'll do multiple sets of 8 reps or so with 245. By the last 3 reps I'll do a little cheat with the legs but the first 5 or so are heels flat, knees locked. Have you tried that CrossFit workout I put up the other day? I'd love to hear your reaction.
I haven't tried that crossfit wo yet. I think it would, quite literally, cause me to die.
Hey, on your 8 rep sets are you pausing at the bottom like I am? Or are you going for a little more of a rebound effect?
I'm asking because I just don't get how you can be so much damn stronger than me. :) I mean, I've got STRONG shoulders, and I could do 245 for, MAYBE, 2. You're doing sets of 8, and we weigh the same???
When I do these I make them a zero momentum movement. The first 5 reps or so are totally strict with heels down, knees locked, no bounce. The last few I'll rebound a little bit to make the bar move.
You're a beast. Overhead stuff has always been easy for me. It helps that I love to do it!
Are you competing anywhere on the east coast this year?

His form is dangerous. He's not wrapping his thumbs. Too easy to drop the barbell.

Beefy, huh? You sweet talker you. I'm actually down a bit, I just look bigger because I've dropped some fat.
I was 224 before starting these, clothes on.
I probably don't want to ask but: how much weight are you using on these? :)

*laughing* I KNOW I'm a beast, that's why it's frustrating to have you be a stronger presser! Fuck it, it's good to chase sometimes, right?
Plus, I think I've got you on bench?
What's your strict press PR?
I actually competing in about 9 weeks at the Northeast Beast. You gonna be around? I'm pretty sure it's in Jersey.
TheAscendant 3 years ago
I'm doing that same contest. The medleys are going to be nuts. I'm also doing the contest on May 24th in Jersey.
I don't bench much. It's probably been a full year since I did more than a warm up set.
What's your PR on the Log for reps with 270 in 60 seconds?
You can hit me on my email at conanrules1@aol.com

Very nice. I've done 185x8 seated, but not standing and not as deep as you.
