Both versions are very well done. I prefer Gino's version, but this one has a sound and recording which is way more ahead of it's time. Sounds like something much newer. Isn't that Chakakan in the background I hear?
Gino did this song in '75 and Roy in '76. I'm a huge fan of both. To me, the fact that they both chose to do a great job with this great song sez a ton that's good.
CAN SOMEONE PLEASE TELL ME WHY ROY AYERS IS STILL LIKE AN UNDERGROUND DREAM AFTER ALL OF THESE YEARS AGAIN!! THIS MAN IS A MUSICAL GENIUS WHO SPAWNED OTHER MUSCIAL GENUIS SUCH AS SIR JAMES YANCEY JR AKA DILLA!!!!
This song is sooo alluring, I kno Gino Vanelli did the original song, in which his version is ok in its own right but Roy Ayers took the song and made it his, the instrumentals paint a much more mesmerizing picture. Listening to this puts me in a calming zone. Im only 22 but I have always been an old school music head and I hate that im just now finding this song.
@4TYouths Nive one. I was born in 67 and i totally appreciate and understand what you say about the mind travelling when listening to this special piece of music....
if my old 33LP of this could only talk...it would have many, many stories to tell...i was blessed to have this when it first came out when my musical taste began to take shape in my early teens....
does this not sound like a little piece of heaven?
Roy Ayers created versions of several songs and all are very different and unique. No one commented probably because the styles of both artist are so different, I just don't think about the original when I hear his version. You send me by Sam Cooke is great but Roy Ayers took it someplace totally different.
no mention of the original artist in 25 post's? this is a wonderful interpretation but GINO VANNELLI"s original version is NOT to be missed.listen for yourself.
@the4thstooge you the man.... i think most people didn't mention gino cause they all thought it was just roy ayers... as I did,.... and shit... now im a bit embarrassed I didn't know this... thanks for the schooling session...lol
I was in the Navy back then, smoking a lot of herb up in New London at the sub base. I remember this album ,there was a asian dude, Phillip Woo ? who played keyboards in the group or was I just high? Either way I loved this album.Got me through sub school, Yeah, Yeah.
Yes LuigiBoVer2 is indeed correct. Phillip Woo was with Roy Ayers Ubiquity prior to his stint with Maze, featuring on Everybody Loves The Sunsine', 'Vibrations' and Ubiquity's own 'Starbooty' album among other Roy Ayer productions. Check out his stellar fender rhodes solo on the track 'The Golden Rod' from 'Everybody Loves...' 70s jazz fusion at its optimum best!.
Yeah,I got my 8 year old singin' Roy from pumpin' it in the car! I feel cheated because I just got up on Roy in the last 2 years now he is all I listen to. IM ONLY 31
@BOX5 Right on BOX5 - anyone ever wonder why guys like Ayers get sampled the fuck out? Maybe it's because few commercial "Artists" today have what it takes to create truly original music with feeling (Which is why everything is so fucken rehashed). Definitely shows the low point of our culture. But than there are so many other examples besides music.
@nirbetan: very well said....we have lost so much in the last 20 years...no one knows how to play a traditional instrument (such as what we have here), simple understated melodies (no oversinging / vocal gymnastics), beautiful lyrics woven through a lush mellow groove, ...i can understand why you say now is the low point of our culture....but IMO....it has only just begun.... in 25 years we'll have only groans & grunts...
@btinsley1 There are plenty of musicians out there its just the radio doesnt play real music so people just accept what they hear. Music will live again soon
I LOOOVE THIS SONG!!!!! Man this is the shit! Classic Roy Ayers I love it. This song when I was in 7th grade was special to me. Will someone please the Roy Ayers version of "What You Won't Do For Love" and a clean version of "Good Vibrations". Thanks for the post.
Both versions are very well done. I prefer Gino's version, but this one has a sound and recording which is way more ahead of it's time. Sounds like something much newer. Isn't that Chakakan in the background I hear?
