I agree with you. Probably James Cameron must underrater film and one that i think has such a huge sense of scale that it slightly overcooks its own sense of self importance but ultimately, the film is a resounding success
I still remember the night I bought this on VHS back in the mid 90s. I took it home to watch on my new home theatre system. My eyes were welling up at the scene where CPR is being performed. Wow awesome massively underrated film!
i remember the first time watching this movie in China and they named it alien 5.

The Abyss is Cameron's most underrated masterpiece if you ask me. I love the performances of Ed Harris, Mary Elizabeth and Michael Biehn.
