Thanks. That was interesting. The conveyor belts were moving very fast for the two workers who were snatching at plastic bags etc. I suspect a lot go through. Can they stop the belt for a moment to remove what they need?
@TSM8088 Of course there's a profit. They're in a business. Although I disagree with challenging the motives of every single person involved with a blanket statement, it's a fact. Still, if it helps the environment, who can complain if they're not taking charge themselves?
@zephrius Items have to be sorted by colour, and type. Pelletized versions of these materials are recycled by raw material manufacturers, since there are so many different materials sorted at a sorting station. Why would you have forty different polymer/glass/metal processing plants at a recycling center? There would not be enough input flow or capital to provide such an insane recycling center. The raw material manufacturers will process these materials into their products.
wonderful initiative and very informative.

They don't recycle plastic bags? Why are there recycle signs (triangles) on the bags then??!!
redrosemle 9 months ago
@redrosemle the triangle doesnt actually mean anything. the number inside the bag means if i can be recycled or not only like 1 and 6 can be recycled

I've been to the "recycling" (I mean, sorting) facility in my county 3 times now.
I want to see the physical process which "melts" (or whatever it's called) the paper or plastic down for use in new items.

If the recycling companies didn't make a profit and there were no "political" points to be scored for elected officials, this wouldn't be happening.
No one is doing this "help the environment."

@StringlessSouls That's the point. It isn't helping the environment.

Helpful.

that wasn't educational at all. it only showed how items are sorted not recycled.

Without the sorting process you wouldn't have the process known as "Recylcing".
Most of the end products are either burned and used as fuels or (like glass) are sent to a landfill.
