Truth is that, if you're playing alone, almost any Pokemon will turn out pretty great, as long as you give them nice moves and level up enough. Pick the ones you like, like many said before!

Torterra is one of the WORST pokemon ever.Grass and Ground combo is horrible. Grass itself is the worst type. ANd adding ground makes it worse. It makes water regular effective instead of weak. It makes Ice Very super effective. As well as making grass being regular effective. Go with Empoleon. Infernape has too many weaknesses as well. I'm no Troll and don't have anything against the other staters... but statistically Empoleon is the best. His Spec. Attack is BADASS. Anyone agree? Its logic.

i know this sounds cheesy but the pokemon that you will do the best with is the pokemon you like, i know latios is a bad fighter but i use him all the time and he's lvl 100, and id rather use that than something that is impossible to catch and has 999 att and def, the game is supposed to be fun not a chore to see who can win, just fight die and laugh

They can all ko each other....ice beam kos torterra so does flamethrower or flare blitz and earthquake kos both empoleon and infernape.....depends on the eve spread and nature, a jolly infernape with evs in speed and attack will always ko both with close combat and flare blitz :] FACT

Oviously Piplup. I know that Infernape is better than it but any pokemon such as Rapidash and Machamp can replace it. The only disadvantage that empoleon has is Speed. It can learn very good moves from diferrent types such as thunder, surf,grass knot, drill peck, icer beam(pwn's torterra at 1st shot), metal claw and whatever else is there. Empoleon is a hard one to replace because it can use almost all Hm's and can also be good in battle (Sp. Att).

Tortera is the best No doubt. when it evolves as grotle its still grass. but when it evolves into torttera its BEAST. it learns earthquake(so SUPER effective against infernape) and the other grass moves it learns like leaf storm or magical leaf CAN DESTROY EMPLOEON! So i suggest you pick turtwig. PS. Turtwig is effective against ALOT of gyms the rock one,steel one,water one, and alot more(i cant think off the top of my head) so yeah u should pick turtwig as a starter for platinum,diamond,peral!!

Infernape is the best choice for competive play. Torterra goes down like a rock. Empoleon is all round but Earthquake is common, making it easy to beat. Infernape has very poor defences, but it's speed and attack combined with a good movepool makes the best in my opinion. I might be wrong, (My teams is for Battle Tower/Battle Subway etc) but to me, Infernape is a strong Physical Sweeper that should always be considered for a team.

Here's my take on this! I'm getting a DSi and pokemon platinum! I have equal respect 4 all three starters and I wan them equally but I can only have but ONE )=...anyways I wanna start wit TURTWIG because grass types are my favorite! However I want 2 start with chimchar because it has a greater advantage in the elite 4 than the others and fire is very powerful! Empoleon! Has 11 resistances! Probably te most of any other pokemon! @Warhammerplayer26 1. Two of the same Pokemon but male and female have to go in the Daycare and you have to walk around and eventually you get an egg, just get the Daycare app from the man inside the Daycare (He's just sitting down at the table).

2. Get one Pokemon and one Ditto and do the same as Step 1.
