i just skiped thru the vidd but cant you just add the veggies raw wont they cook in the oven or do i have to precook them all.... i want to try and make this for the first time so i wanna try and get it right..... also i buy the stouffers veggie lasagna and love it u know how to make that one?????????
Dear Jack, I am so grateful to you for sharing this recipe as I am a Vege~guy for the last past 7 years and still going strong. I have been craving for lasagna and I love your idea of egg plant. I would also like to ask you a favor if you could "at your free time" substitute egg plant with some nice spinach "a real nasty thick layer" of those as I am not the chef @ home. So, would appreciate if you could experiment yo! You are so funny "Viewer Mail" and the intro ~ I am still laughing!
great dish, but not really lasagna. lasagna needs the pasta strips. but it is great without it. perhaps call it eggplant parmagian, which would be very accurate, and also more wanted (too many lasagna recipes here already). Also, consider adding layers of fried mushrooms and some simple green olives to the mix
@Caribeanqueen79 I would suggest Daiya cheese it is almost just like cheese and unlike other vegan "cheese" it melts. Most pizza places actually use that on pizzas for vegan pizza.
I love the name "cooking with Jack" as it is reminiscent of the idea of cooking with "jack" in terms of little cooking experience, or fancy ingredients/equipment.
Great demo. I make something like this with eggplant, zucchini and portobello mushroom, but I bread the veggies a little with italian breadcrumbs before frying them and ZOMG it's soooo good!
Awesome, awesome! I have done 3 different lasagnas the past 3 years but not even the vegetarian one looked or had the ingredients like yours. Thanks for opening up my view on how to make lasagnas in new ways - THANKS!
I enjoy watching your show Jack! I would definitely tivo it on food network! Cooking can be overwhelming especially for people on the go these days, and you make it very fun, simple, & easy without having to use thousounds of ingredients! Keep up the good work. Is there such a way where we can vote for you & turn it in to food network to have your own cooking show? I'm a huge fan! <3
This is a great recipe for on the go. But if there is something I would like to add to it, it would be a layer of crimini mushrooms and stir fried shallots with the pasta sauce.
That looks delicious. I would recommend soaking the eggplant slices in salted water for 10 minutes before you cook them, to extract the bitter juices.
Okay, darlin. I do understand the purpose of sending folks to your blog to get the recipes, but to avoid the "boo-ing", why not just put the recipe in the sidebar? That way, it won't interrupt your video, but it'll still be very accessible to your viewers. I know I don't know jack (pun intended) about making videos. I've never even made a personal one. This is just a suggestion.
trust me. If I like a recipe, I will go to a blog. I appreciate the help, but cramming everything into my video page seems messy. It won't even all fit in the side bar, You will still have to click to another page.
Fair enough. I don't mind going to the blog, but it looks like you've got a few folks riled up. LOL Maybe you should make a video called "The Lazy Man's Instructional Video on How To Click a Link". ;)
Veggie lasagna is also really good with alfredo sauce as well. At my place, we make it with mushrooms, spinach, shredded carrots, shredded zucchini, onion, pretty much anything you want. Sometimes we add a little cream of mushroom soup as well. (We make ours with lasagna noodles though and layer it)
@Urnana.....I do believe that, if he made that video, it would be his LAST video. Doubt his wife would let him live long enough to make another one. LOL
Jack how are you going to make a cooking show and cut out the actual cooking! you shouldve left in the sauteeing part, but thats just me haha great show not a veggie here but still watching it
Good video, but I gotta say, I I agree that lasagna should have lasagna noodles in it. It would still be vegetarian that way. This, to me, is a veggie casserole.
I also must say I resent the implication that vegetarian food is somehow healthier than "normal" food. I don't mean to open that can of worms here, suffice it to say some of us omnivores do not agree.
I just wish people would avoid the urge to make that judgement when showing a vegetarian recipe. It is by no means a scientific fact.
sorry dude, but it is healthier. I removed the carbs and the red meat. That makes it healthier. If it was a cookie, I wouldn't say it's healthier. I would say it's fattening. But it's a veggie dish which is pretty darn healthy.
Okay, I'll agree that removing the carbs is healthier, but that made it into something that is not lasagna. There is nothing wrong with red meat, however, and others might argue that you left in the cheese. A lot of people say dairy is bad for you. My point was that just because something is vegetarian, it is not necessarily better for you, and many would argue that BECAUSE it is vegetarian, it is not good for you.
Besides, doesn't lasagna usually contain pork sausage? That's not red meat.
1st of all pork is red meat. 2nd of all wtf who says dairy is bad for u. 3rd of all if something is vegetarian it probably is much healthier than the alternative
Booo!!!! Who wants to travel all over for a recipe? Why not put it on the right side of the screen so people can copy/paste it without going to different sites? You just made a good show a pain in the butt. Not a good change. Reconsider please...
umm I thought lasagnia was supposed to have those square noodles on them and then have different stuffings. It could be ground beef, chicken, or anything you like. Am I wrong wiht that information or its just 1 type of lasagnia? Ive noticed that jack hasnt made a single lasagnia yet wiht the square noodles.
great to see more vegetarian videos! looks great, i use eggplant and zucchini on my recipe too but i don't eat cheese. Next time i do my lasagna i'll send you a pic :)
prep4md- I think you are confusing vegetarian with vegan. Vegetarians don't eat meat but still consume things like milk, cheese, sour cream, etc. Vegans don't use or consume any animal products.
nicely done, I love the show! I was wondering if you would be interested in doing a Vegan menu collaboration show?
Basically Myself and a few other Youtubers will have the same Vegan menu but will cook it up their style and do a show on it and then cross link the shows. Each chef has a different style so the dishes should come out differently.
Jack, A quick suggestion for the veggies, to get all of them uniform thickness, try using a mandolin if possible, you can get thinner slices and it takes less time.

Hi,
just for information...
uncooked raw eggplants are poisonous, they will not kill you but they might give you a stomachache!
just fry, grill or cook 'em for few minutes with or without skin until they soften and everything will be fine..
