@Rick36561, Watch the youtube interview with Bobby Graham who was the session drummer for the kinks. He is the best source for who did what on the records and pay attention to how he says Dave Davies was a very good guitarist who did his own work and was underrated. You can have your opinions about the Kinks (who cares) but you should know the facts before you show your ignorance.
I consider the Kinks a "Joke" band. Dave Davies got all pissed off when it was found out that Jimmy Page did the Guitar work on a Bunch of their Tunes!

What a delightful relief from that rare Cole Porter clunker of same title.
It was touching to see that used shirt salesman Dave Quaife adopted the closing line of Pete's most memorable recording as a screen name. If you have any vids to post, Bruv -- especially "Big Black Smoke" -- do share them with us!
I remember the excitement when this was recorded, such a wonderful time, and this number was steeaks in front of the other music being churned out at the time. Unfortunaley the recording studious decided to bugger the ending up! Most groups then we doing covers from tin pan ally in the US, the tapes turned up - were played, and offered to the up and coming groups then. The Kinks were one of the first to get their own music recprded. - Dave Quaife - Pete's Bruv
I thinkk this was kind of a throwaway, Originally Ray wrote the some for someone else - some Brit crooner. Ray used to write a lot of songs for a tv show. He was very prolific beyond what he did for the Kinks.
That bands would sounf similar is not that odd. They were all listening to each other and some of the responsibility for the sound was producers.
As much as I love The Kinks and I've heard everything from them, and their best works, this simple 2 minutes and those four line lyrics make my undefeated favorite Kinks song ever!!! Why is this song not so requested?
how can you possibly say that the rolling stones were not influenced by the beatles. listen to sgt. peppers then listen to their satanic majesties request. satanics was released six months after sgt. pepper. just look at the album art even. consider that the rolling stones were famed as the "counter beatles", which is obviously a reaction / copy of the beatles and their take on pop music.
Not quite true. Many bands started at the same time as the Beatles and they were all doing R & B covers. The Beatles became the most popular, probably most talented, and influenced other groups certainly. Groups like the Yardbirds, Who, Small Faces etc did not copy them. The Rolling Stones even recorded a Lennon McCarteney composition as a single.
@relax240 eerrr no man - just no way - have u even heard all the bands from the sixties? no i didnt think so - secondly the kinks songs and beatles are in no way alike - which is strange because they both did the same mo fucking genre your just trying to look and be smart when actually u r just very ignorant
if u dont like the kinks then fuck off their vids dumbass - i bet u spent a good 2 mins 25 secs writing that cuz u couldnt get enough of the song
@relax240 HAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA yea right
sorry man but u and i both know thats total bull shit
the reason songs sound similar from the sixties is because they were the same style (big surprise dumbass)
so stop trying to annoy me and bugger off these great songs - all sixties songs and bands were awsome and NONE of them copied each other so bugger off before i get really annoyed
Quite a strange song (typical for its time, but not quite a typical Kinks song). Seems that it took The Kinks some experimenting to reach their unique sound.

Every british band from that era started as a copy of The Beatles, except for The Rolling Stones
