I have a hd150 spider 3 and am thinking about the line 6 mkii head is it worth it or can i just run some sort of tube warmer pedal/preamp in my spider to achieve this
@DECIFERTHIS09 you can run a tube pre into your Spider if you'd like. It might not sound exactly the same as the valve amp but it will warm your tone up a bit.
@line6movies whats a good pre I should choose i was thinking to get a art but I don't know if thats what want but I have 100 or less what would be your choice of warmer?
@DECIFERTHIS09 a lot of Spider Valve owners swear by the Spider Valve Pre made by Strymon. It's been discontinued but you may be able to find one on eBay or you could even ask around in the SV forums on our website.
Question for you Line 6 guys if you will. I'm thinking about purchasing this to keep up with the other guitarist in my metal band who plays a Peavey 6505 through a Mesa 4x12. Will the Spider Valve 212 combo hold it's own and will it be enough to keep up with a drummer and the other guitarist volume and keep good tone and low end at such a volume?
It has a gate and a noise reduction. It also has an editor, a free upgrade...but you need to get either the $99 or $199 floor board. I pay more than that for most pedals, so no biggy. the 1.5 firmware adds a bunch more effects and tweaks the amp models. For a grab and go rig, this thing rocks. Is it my Carol-ann OD-50? Of course not, but what it is...one head, one board, and a couple cables. Simplicity and diversity in one package.
I checked this amp out in the store and buckster's right it is louder than hell because after changing the presets I had to turn down the master volume because it squealed like hell. I'm assuming this amp comes with a volume pedal or has a noise gate of some sort because that kind of noise wouldn't be cool at a gig.
A lot of the modling presets imo are pretty dead on, and they're mostly modled after songs like highway to hell and master of puppets,
Wow this is bullshit amp they have 2 preamp tubes and a modeling tone stack - if the high gain distortion actually was being really produced by the analog section it would sound terrible. this amp is such a fucking trick I played it like 5 times and just thought "how the fuck did they convince people this was like any other tube amp?" It's better than Spiders but anyone who says its "just like" a higher quality tube amp just has no ear for tone - if you want L6 get Alchemist (aka tube amp)
Have you compared the raw distortion tone of the Spider Valve with the Bugera? I like the tone of the 6260 & 333XL, but if the Line 6 gets very close then it might be a better amp since it has effects?
hey my x3l sounds crap wit my marshall mg50dfx. i wanted to get this amp. does the pwramp in 1/4 inch work better dan an effectx loop wit the pod or will the spider valve jus sounds like my marshall if used wit my x3l as the preamp. i hope i get an honest answer. i knw its hard, us wrk 4 them lol.
I never liked Line 6 because of my recollection of the Spider 3. After playing the Spider Valve because I was bored at Guitar Center one day, I have to say, this is by far the best amp for the price I ever played! I played the stack and the 212, and the 212 sounded a little harsher, but a quick adjustment of EQ and the thing SANG! The Crunch Channel on blue is Marshall Plexi, so great Van Halen tone, and the Metal Channel on Orange is Mesa, so that gave me a nice Metallica gain. BUY IT! :D
Practice amp? Dude, you must not have turned the master volume. This blows any solidstate halfstack out of the water. It's loud as hell, and sounds even better when you roll up the volume.
I agree with you though, christhekiwi12, i own the 212 and its pretty fucking awesome. Cleans, blues, brown, tight metal...you can get it all and it sounds good.
Hey dude I get that buzz too but on my crunch blue channel..Question does it happen when your trying to play then it just cuts a unbareable painful buzz..Even when I stop playing that buzz is still going even when I try to turn the both volumes to zero
I have this amp (Spider Valve 212) and i do not see any noise gate button that would activate o desactivate anything; please tell me if there is any trick to "remove" the "buzz" when use distorted sounds on "low notes" (i nearly dont speak english) please answer thank you
@paskualu From the manual: Press and hold Tap as you turn the Reverb knob up past twelve o'clock, and you turn on a built-in Noise Gate, which helps to cut down on hiss and noise. When you do this, the Channel D LED comes on to indicate that the Gate is on.
The Spider Valve combo amps use two 12AX7 tubes in the preamp section and two matched 5881WXT (6L6) tubes in the Bogner-designed valve power amp section. These amps are not "hybrid" amplifiers that use solid-state circuitry to amplify the tones produced by tubes in their preamp sections.
i hear that the spider valve series still has a little of that "digitized" tone that the spider III series has, is this true? or does the spider valve series sound 100% tube?
At last Line 6 admits it needs valves to sound any good ! Ha ha to modeling technology! ( just a joke), -- But I jest not that my NI Guitar Rig 3 will do anything these monkeys are try to create, and better.
How much did ya pay for that then mate? Cos i'm gettin a line 6 valve 212 for £450, relatively sure mine will be cheaper, sound better and easier to take around than ur "rig"
A friend of mine is going to trade me his 212 spider valve for my peavey classic 50 410. I personally think that the spider valve has so many tonal options that you get lost. My classic 50 defiantly has a sweet tube tone but I have to put a pedal in front of it to play metal.
im gonna take a moderate standpoint and say, these are no where near a real bogner, but they combine slightly weaker versions of many amps, i played one and it got a very convincing 6505 tone. Much better then regular spider amps
I dont care how much they paid him, Bogner would NOT lend his name to this amp if he didnt belive in it and love the sound himself!! You guys with your "sounds digital, sounds processed sounds fake" are full of it ! In a blind test I bet you couldnt tell the difference, and would go one further and say 99% of the time you'd pick THIS amp as sounding best!!
I think people hate the idea of modeling amp. They represent change. And nobody likes that. This how "Line 6 sucks!" thing is absolute BS. I always hear "You crank it and it sucks!" from the metal guys. They forget that Line 6 is about versatility. And you can always mic an amp.
eh... the responses were like that because the word "Bogner" and "Line 6" should never be used together in a sentence. Sucks Reignold sold out on this one, cuz that amp sucks. You crank it and it SUCKS. His other amps are beyond excellent though. The Uberschall is probably the best amp I've ever played.
I've had this amp for a week or so and it sucked big time. It's the same sound engine as in the old plastic POD, only with a tube power amp, still sounds artificial and not like a tube amp at all. Furthermore, I've heard for other who kept their amps, that it's very unreliable...
your an idiot dude. i have the half stack version, and it sounds incredible. the electronics are all new dude, not from the old pod. i even asked the product designer from line 6 and he said its all new stuff man. stop spreading shit and go play on your crate.
Here's a crazy idea. Instead of talking about how this marks an "EVOLUTION" in amp design (Atomic amps did this idea and did it better a few years ago...), how about you actually PLAY the amp?? Maybe show us how it sounds?
I have the Spider Valve 2x12 , I have owned every amp and let me say this if you take your time with amp its just unreal I have had it 2 weeks now and still cant believe how great this amp sounds its just Incredible .
Yeah um...this has already been done by Atomic. Ill have a full review of my amp up on youtube shortly with a huge variety of tones. Line 6 is an excellent company (I use my pod xt with the atomic and the results are INCREDIBLE), but i wish this video did more than just talk about how awesome this amp is (aka um...i dont know, show us the tones it can produce?!)
These are totally awesome. I was thinking about getting a peavey valve king, then I played on one of these, and I was just blown away. It was incredible.
peaveys are my amps of choice for tube amps.... i dont like these line 6 amps because they have so much effects on it....peavey amps are so simple and thats what makes them great... i've bought many peavey amps for practice and for studio but the one i use for concerts is my mid 1980s peavey bandit... never had any problems with it... i use the overdrive from the amp and the only other effect i use is my cry baby...
Im pretty happy with my Vox AD120VTX and Vox Tonelab. I can't knock them for realism. The Line 6 stuff i've tried has always sounded too processed and not quite real sounding.
hopefully this will be the start of a good thing for line 6.
I just bought this amp today and it is AMAZING!, I used to hate line 6 for there crappy solid state sound. I went into the music store deadset on getting a tube amp of some. I used to own Mesa Dual rectifier, and you can dial in the sound to get it pretty spot on. Not only that but it has presets for many rock band names (dialed in by the artists themselves). I'm very critical so I will post a follow up as soon as I find some flaws.
wow i hope no one rips on line 6 now. i'm kind of a fanboy of line 6 since i've had so much tonal success with my podxt live, hopefully this'll keep people happy qith the tube tone, which you really can't go wrong with. this seems like a perfect solution!!!! man i really hope they have a tube incorporated poxt xt (or x3 which is what they have out now) that would be so SICK.

So basically Line 6 is admitting defeat by incorporating tubes. The company was founded on the idea of elimianting tubes thru modeling technology. Sounds like hype to me. What happens to the Vetta owners now?
I think the major problem Line6 encountered was in the live setting, modellers sounded thin whereas they sound great on recording so add tubes. Why the Spider though? Surely something more PodXT based would sound better. As it stands they're putting their lowest end stuff through a tube amp, it's a waste.
Well, what's a great solution is getting a Spider Valve amp and connecting a PodXT (Live) into the Power Amp input. That's a great combo because you get a great tube amp at a low price and all the tones you love from PodXT! I have a PodXT Live and i'm saving up for a Spider Valve HD100.
I love how line 6 just went back on their MAIN motto of like "we dont need no stinkin' tubes" and basically with this product admit that tubes provide a better tone. Atomic amps makes an amplifier made especially for modellers like the podxt, its been around for a few years and is significantly better than this.
i dunno, i like the tones you can get from the spider valve (i just bought a 112 combo) and it gives you pretty much everything you need. although i agree that the modelliing of the pods are far better, cos the modelling on the spider is essentially in order of gain. that would be a pretty good idea, but if you were to do that, you wouldnt need a spider valve, you could get a single channel valve amp
I heard the demos of the models an they sounded pretty good. I'm seriously considering this amp because you can dial up good jazz and blue models plus you get the warmth and tonality of tubes. What do you think off their digital effects?
Why would you consider it to be their lowest end stuff? They seem to offer a good combination of vintage to high gain tones. Is it because you only get 12 amp models as opposed to the number you get from a Pod XT?
I have a hd150 spider 3 and am thinking about the line 6 mkii head is it worth it or can i just run some sort of tube warmer pedal/preamp in my spider to achieve this

i dunno, i like the tones you can get from the spider valve (i just bought a 112 combo) and it gives you pretty much everything you need. although i agree that the modelliing of the pods are far better, cos the modelling on the spider is essentially in order of gain. that would be a pretty good idea, but if you were to do that, you wouldnt need a spider valve, you could get a single channel valve amp

I heard the demos of the models an they sounded pretty good. I'm seriously considering this amp because you can dial up good jazz and blue models plus you get the warmth and tonality of tubes. What do you think off their digital effects?

they are surprisingly good

Why would you consider it to be their lowest end stuff? They seem to offer a good combination of vintage to high gain tones. Is it because you only get 12 amp models as opposed to the number you get from a Pod XT?

Spider Valve, Spider Valve, does whatever a... umm... sorry.
Are the effects still gonna sound cold and fake?
