  • the chorus = <3

  • I always get knots in my throat when I listen to this. Even more so when I see the video.

  • this is so sad D:

  • Porcupine Tree are one of those bands that were so ahead of their time that they will only receive the recognition they deserve way after they were alive. Sad but true.

  • OMIGOSH!

    Emo! Dead! How depressing!

    LOL.

    Crazy song though.

  • England looks so depressing sometimes... ok... surely that if the whole world was like Florida ...some bands and music will just not exist...forget the bleeding heart of emo kids... forget new wave music... it will disappear in smoke...

If the whole world looks like Florida ...salsa and even worst...reggaeton will be the musical dictatures of the planet and the emo kids will be persecuted and crucified...

...with "If" i can remade a planet...

  • @BohemianConspiracy eh? what are you talking about?...it looks like this i most cities...lol I live in ontario...

  • My first Porcupine Tree listen. Comments? Yeah. Really really really really really really really really really really good drummer! Obviously the driving force in this song's engine. Like it tons! Now, onto every other song I can find here. A thanks @prodigalaudio for the suggestion to listen to this band!

  • chida

  • kommatara........

  • I found this by searching Porcupine on facebook O.o

  • reminds me so much of Fair To Midland

  • I hope you guys who think she is hot are like 20 yo or less.Got daughters that age.Gr8 band-stumbled on 'em.Never would have found em w/o you tube!

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAWESOME.

  • Is this what they call emo music?

  • @Siipilintu no this it progressive rock not emo music ....emo music is a lot lamer!

  • @Siipilintu OMFG

  • @Siipilintu No. This is what they call a tribute song.

  • she s beautiful

  • R.I.P Arielle Daniel and Heather Bates.

  • Is there a full lenth video?

  • Great song but the live version is better!

  • seriously how justin bieber has more views than this ? Many ask this question. But I already realized it: people are more and more degenerated by mass and they start to call music something that was created in one minute with four chords. But this ??? only real people with soul can really feel the depth and complexity of music and will never be consumed with pathetic simple and stupid modern popmusic

  • @7721247 to be fair, something made in one minute with four chords is music. it doesn't have to be overtly deep and complex to sound good. for example, sunsets by powderfinger is one of my favourite songs, and that uses very simple chords.

  • @Disshock yeah that is a good song :) also nirvana has a lot grate song that are not complex what I wanted to say that pop music today has nothing sense based. Its like the feeling is gone just the popular side of music is left...

  • This song takes be back to december 2007. I was on a weekend leave from the army, and after driving a few hours we parked our car behind Pakkahuone, Tampere. The split second when I opened the door of the car and suddenly this song is blasting out of the backstage door (soundcheck) was truly one of the most amazing moments of my life.

  • Beautiful!!!!

  • AAAH MY NEXT VICTIM @.@

  • goth girls are perfect :)

  • I heard this entire album was against MP3 Players and IPODS. I hope that CDs will never die. I like them. I would rather have a CD any day than MP3 audio =(

  • powerful video

  • fucking ads!!

  • Omg. I used the beat to make these lyrics:

    Chorus:

    Weed and crack.

    Stays in my system.

    Weed and crack.

    Stays in my system.

  • The video and music compliment each other perfectly!

  • @DreamInSongs While this is true, the video is still pretty cheesy.

  • RIP Arielle Daniel, my friend, my hero. This song was written for her. There was so much more to her than the public will ever known. She wasn't "some suicidal little goth chick." ... She had so many plans in life, and they were taken from her. When all she was trying to do was help out a friend in need. I'll always remember you for the right reasons, ElleirA.

  • wayy outtttttttttt of heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeereeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!

  • look for: alony10

  • i watched this when i was high and it was life changing......most emotional song and video in the world<3 it was intense. i watched it like 5 times in a row!

  • amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • that girl is beautiful :3

  • trying to forget you...but i don't think i can

  • way out of here what a great song

  • i almost cried when i first heard this, amazing song

  • Hey if you like Porcupine Tree then check out Grey Skies Fallen on my channel!

  • @unlikeanyotherhuman so it seems. it's funny cause wilson obviously doesn't strike one as an emotional type.

  • sick song. drummer is pretty ballin

  • also- damn steve must've been an unhappy child.

  • FUCK THESE PERRIER ADVERTS GUHHHHHH

  • 3:28 is like wtf?

  • yeah people can listen 7 minutes cant they? People will sit and watch a TV show for 30 minutes or even a movie for 2 hours. but you cant sit down and enjoy a song for 7:37?

  • Porcupine vs Lion.

  • i thought that chick was gonna bust some graff. this band is waaayyyy to cry baby for my tastes. grow some balls guys.

  • heard about these guys in guitar world...and I think its too emo

  • I prefer the live version ... John Wesley Rocked the goddamn chorus!

  • Trains. TRAINS EVERYWHERE

  • @JonyTehPony They are definitely obsessed with trains, toy or otherwise

  • @MrSeamoose10 Actually, it' Steven Wilson. He grew up near a train station. Watch Insurgentes, it's a really good movie about Mr. Wilson

  • People don't know the difference between "underrated" and "underknown".

  • @SpaceDyeDream yes

PT are not known to masses, but they have very strong respect among prog fans

  • @SpaceDyeDream yOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT BUT WHAT TO DO....? WE NEED THIS KIND OF MUSIC, SO A FEW OF US, AND INMENSE MINORITY, COULD FINALLY SPREAD STEVE WILSON TO THE WORLD !!! SO ...ENJOY HIM AND TEACH PEOPLE NOT TO BE SO SQUARE. FROM A SMALL COUNTRY THAT YOU MAY NOT EVEN KNOW........YES I KNOW MY ENGLISH IS A DISASTER

  • wow. im glad my friends turned me to these guys!!!

  • riverside and porcupine tree go good together :D

  • seriously, fuck single edits

why should someone shorten the song because it's too long?

It's like when you take a book, tear several pages of it and read it

  • @gogolplex74 fuckinn a

  • @gogolplex74 actually happens a lot- abridged audiobooks, censorship... you name it.

  • @gogolplex74 Because nowadays' average music listener has the concentration skills of a carrot ;)

  • @gogolplex74 damn right!!! and the worst thing is that they have those too...

  • @gogolplex74 HOLY SHIT THEY CUT OUT THE BEST PART OF THE GUITAR SOLO!

  • @gogolplex74 actually publishers do that to books. take neil gaiman's american gods, there's the normal version which most bookstores carry, and then there's the 'authors preferred version' which is about a hundred pages longer. we're living in times of instant gratification. if it's over one click away and doesn't give you an achievement it's not worth doing, or at least that's how the majority behaves.

  • @gogolplex74 This just makes it easier on Lasse. As this is just the liveshow video, the band is doing other stuff while the video isn't playing, and Lasse doesn't have to work as hard. I don't like shortening myself, because it startles me when i listen to a youtube song, like TIme Flies, and the album version is three times as long and 100 times better.

  • omg ... i just watched the video just to look at the girl :P

    and the music ofcourse ^^

  • it's amazing to think of how many people can relate to this song. it's captivating and meaningful, the type of music which actually speaks out to people..

  • One of the most depressing songs i've ever heard especially when you know the back story.

  • This album is just art.

They were able to express all the inherent apathy that we all carry along our lifes and all that it burns inside...

Listening the song is.. I don't know, having the feeling I'm talking about, you know what I mean...

  • Feel really conected to the song...

  • who is the girl actin in this video?? her style is awesome

  • My life changed sense i heard these guy's!!

  • this band doesnt get the attention it deserves. Hey everyone we are a new band and we're trying to get a bit noticed at the moment and we would appreciate if you check out our first instrumental song "Waking Up" it is rough around the edges, but we recorded this the first day we congregated as a band. with your support we would like to improve even more, thanks guys!

  • SO DEEP

  • Steven Wilson is one of the most talented musician of the world. He composed almost all of Porcupine Tree's songs. He actually started experimenting with music at the age of 12. Being forced to learn guitar, he had learned it at the age of 11. That guy is a genius.

  • @EITrollo Hip hop are actually for fags... these songs are beautiful not just coz they are sad or whiney.. if u actually had brains u wud understand that the song is about him asking people not to bother him about the scar... he trying to move on while fags like u are bothering him with the reminder of the incident... it says to be strong rather than whining or complaining... And about music, ever turned the dictionary? its not bout talking throughout the song -.-

  • @ghastlyprojection if he's so strong why doesnt he just move on instead of whining on and on like a titless bitch? besides, this is way too looong, he better cut that shit short and straight to the point.

rap muzik is not bout talking, its about an image and lifestyle and the sense of power, unlike this whiny weak willed bullshit for "progressive" suburban fags. you'll learn about it when you grow tough.

  • @EITrollo Anyone who calls music, "muzik" should never be taken seriously.

  • @xxbss4lifexx "Müzik" is Turkish name of music. It depends on the language that person uses. You cant judge people like this.

  • just simply love this song

  • @EITrollo I just came on this page randomly from a thread about bands similar to Pink Floyd. Reading the comments, I can only come to the conclusion that you yourself need to "stop whining like banged ass bitchez" (congrats on the use of the "z" too. Gives you total street cred for your East Coast "HipHop"). So what if your friend likes this band? YOU are the one hanging out with "fags" and whining about it (like the "bitchez"). You may as well just come out of the closet already.

  • @flatlandmonkey dear monkey, get a clue. im trying to make ma m8 becum tough and confident by outgrowing the sentimentality sickness that plagues his life and makes him depressive as fuck. his father is an alcoholic and he listens to this type of bands all da time, even dat pink flood band, and other american bands, and i getting worried he might turn into a real sissy. just sayin'. cuz if he doesnt get tougher ima stop hanging out with him, so he better grow the fudge up. u2.

  • @EITrollo hahahahaha you are such a fag bro, its sad that your mind is incapable of comprehending the words and true meaning of music other than Bitches, hoes, crack, and money hahaha way to be a "real man."

  • @ertsli shutup

  • @EITrollo haha the troll is back!! fucking retard haha

  • @EITrollo

o my god u are fucking idiot man,u represent ewery thing that is fucked up with the world,

try to hold down a sound in a guitar motherfucker, ,u should find the highest cliff and dive-like in blackfield song, ..and i have to correct u on the east coast thing too motherfucker.,westcoast fo life ..biatch:PPahaha

  • @gemdecapsuni actually west coast is pretty gay, fyi. get a clue bro.

  • @EITrollo

take two pic ,put it together..one should be tupac..and the other one puffy ,diddyy..whoos gay motherfucker .ahahaha:P

  • @gemdecapsuni puffy is gay, 2pac is dead, theyre both overblown. i was talking about real rappers, not posers pal.

  • @EITrollo

IF u say tupac is a poser then ,u dont know nothn about rap,....pal:P

  • @gemdecapsuni 2pac had a number of very good songs, but if he didnt die he wouldnt enjoy nearly as much reputation as he does. same thing as with kurt cobain or any other - like i said - "overblown" pop icon, back to james dean or whoever (elvis presley too). trust me pal i know what im talking about and you need to get some real ass rap, not commercial bullshit like 2pac, and neither this touchy-feely suburban porridge that is procupine forest.

  • @EITrollo Fair enough. Porcupine Tree IS an emotional band. But they are one of those bands that I just cant find anything to fault for. They have depth and their music always have an incredible flow compared to other prog and prog metal bands. They are a perfect mix of accessible and prog indulgent to me.

Ohh I just realized that your name is ElTrollo.I fell right into that one.

  • @EITrollo his name is "ELtrollo"

You know? I think he might just be trolling...

  • Great music I became a fan. a Very underrated band. That's why I hate the commercial radio they only play Katie Perry...

  • Great music I became a fan. Very underrated band.

  • 1:52... beheaded?

  • HOW CAN ANYONE DISLIKE TIS TRACK........... FUCK HIM

  • Why isn't this band better known?

they're on the same leaque as Radiohead

  • @gogolplex74 PT and Steven Wilson are definitely on the same level as Radiohead. Why they aren't better known, I have no idea. The radio stations wouldn't know good music if it punched them in the face?

  • great tribute from Porcupine to this girl,

    RIP Arielle.

  • There's music you listen to to have fun, dance whatever. Then there's music that elevates the spirit, gives you a peek at the backstage of life, the symbols and archetypes that are hints of the unseen realities that create the world we "experience".

  • @ix8880 cool story bro

  • Chilling...

  • This song never fails to bring tears to my eyes.

  • Wow powerful song and video.

  • i think i heard this one live. god that concert was magic.

  • Did anyone else get a Mormon advertisement before the video?

  • this song is incredible. everything about it. even it's meaning. there's so much emotion in it that it's insanely good, not to mention their talent!

    i can't get enough of them. <3

    RIP Arielle.

  • Porcupine Tree é a salvação desses grupos que surgiram nos ultimos anos!!!

    Muito bom!

  • 44 people should fall under a traind :)

  • If Porcupine Tree have been around for 20 years, how come I hadn't heard of them since a couple of months ago? Their absolutely AMAZING!

  • Now that I know this is based on something that really happened, it makes me really teary :(

Especially since I read that the parents came to a concert and Steven dedicated the song to Arielle and made sure that the video didn't play behind them that night

  • This cuts right through my soul. Just brilliant.

  • @wookie128 Make sure you listen to the full version

  • Hey check out our song demo.. plz rate and comment!!

    Lust - Tranquilizer

  • PT....What more can anyone say about venturing into the next realm of musical genius.

  • What's the name of the girl who played Arielle?

  • it's just so cool to Pro Keds Hi-Tops making a comeback LOL!

  • Genius!!!

i wanna get of here too

    tears in my eyes...

  • The story of my life.

  • I love the keyboard sound in the chorus. It sounds very spacial and surreal.

  • the most underrated band in the world

  • @dribbelkont

I don't think underrated is the right word. Perhaps under-appreciated.

  • @dribbelkont Try Kingston Wall

  • @dribbelkont sorry for the expression but, are you idiot or what?? this band have millions of fans.

  • @CristianTejadaU underrated dude, not overrated...

  • @devidia umm....emm sorry XD...im new in this lenguage hehehe

  • @dribbelkont I thought Threshold was...

  • @dribbelkont Actually they are not, as opposed to e.g. Kings X. Prog is not for everyone. Kings X make much more mass-compatible music and not too many know them nonetheless.

  • fuck off .....is that train story true...dont think so but it works with the song

  • Im high as fuck

  • I fell in love with this band the first time I heard them. I think it was "Stars Die" nuy I'm not sure now.

I affectionately label them "Progressive Emo"

  • Koi have released their debut album "In Tomorrow Hid Yesterday", for fans of PT. It's also available at Spotify!

  • I'm a metal person but I actually really like this band !

  • @goregrindbastard1

Where to start. The band covers so much territory. I'm not familiar with everything, so hopefully others will chime in. Here's a couple for starters, anyways:

If you haven't already, check out their tune "Signify", I think it's right up your alley ;)

And their album "Deadwing" has some great Prog Metal moments happening; tunes like the title track, and the tune "Shallow"

  • Why aren't Porcupine Tree popular? Or where are they popular? Because no one has heard of them hardly in the UK. :<

  • @cueshark poeple dont usually appreciate good music these days. isnt it obvious?

  • @cueshark - they filled the Albert Hall last year!

  • Actually, the video is most likely shot in Denmark.. It says "DSB" on the train carts, which is the company who runs and maintains the railways here. ^^

  • Thes chorus is so powerful its like your hit by a train literallty!

  • This is such an EPIC non metal band. But being a metal fan I think they deserve a good ol metal salute!! \m/HAILS\m/

  • @mpape80 yeah to bloody right matey, me too...As in the words of AC\DC..We salute you...

  • Ey! When I saw the band live, the video ended with the girl killing herself, getting run over by the train. The studio recording is 6:50 long, and they had video for the whole song. This is not the full version.

  • This is so much better than their "Porcupine Tree's" new album.

  • this song has such emotion - reminds of the Marillion - Brave album...excellent!

  • <3

  • This is a great post. PT is an amazing band - most creative writing since Pink Floyd.

The drummer does have mad skills, listen to the poly rhythms he is playing in this song.

  • And I really don´t think they thought this was cool. It´s absolutely heartbreaking! The video could be based on the girl you mentioned but also on thousands of other young people who chose that way out of here..

  • This song always brings tears to my eyes..

  • my first time hearing pt. im just mind blown!

  • @CarbonKid47 Better late than never! ;)

  • @CarbonKid47 Dig deeper my friend...they have some songs that will bring you to your knees. Deadwing is a good album, In Absentia, Fear of a Blank Planet....hell, just about anything. Some of their early stuff can be a bit heady and difficult to get into but still wortth a listen.

  • she has a very unique face

  • @WTFGiordan that's true but she still remind me someone!

  • Golly, now I think I'm a little suicidal. Thanks.......

  • @TheGranule know what you mean.. but don't let it get to you.. because all great art is rooted in tragedy.

  • <3<3<3

  • as a musician i think pursuing technacality should be second. its better to compliment each of the musicians ur playing with and not try to steal the spotlight with ur amazing abilities with the drums (unless ur going for a solo career). for example flea imo i think hes one of the greatest bass players of all time if not the greatest, not because of his technicality but his ability to compose and arrange his parts for all the pieces hes involved in so god dam well.

  • @TheJeffum I'm a drummer, and agree. Prog is at it's best when it doesn't become a technical display of solos. (Though I love layin' down a good solo...)

  • amazing..i'm in some trans..

  • i dont like the questions
