Jesus is able to forgive sin. All have sinned the Bible says. Homosexuality was punishable by death in the old testament because it had the ability to shatter Gods early creation but the New Testament offers grace and forgivness.

while Phelps may gain followers with his message they will be mostly his offspring, some of whom will eventually reject his message, the rest (not many) will end up as insular as his family, and ultimately insignificant. In reality his message is turning off marginal bigots. Phelps is self-defeating.
As an atheist I can look at this objectively and say that these people seem to actually follow Christianity. The bible is full of cruelty from an unjust, insecure, evil, homicidal god named Yahweh. Modern Christians tend to gloss over his evil acts of sending bears to kill children, committing mass genocide of people who didn't follow him, human sacrifice, and general blood lust. So as an atheist I would label these people real Christians of the bible and those other ones as modern Christians.

Just think how great and evolved the world would be without religion. @filoIII We have to take the whole Gospel of Christ into considderation and we can't just use one verse to sum up the Bible. If we get the whole message it's obvious that God loves sinners because Jesus came into the world to save sinners. The verse you quote cannot be ignored though and it should be a warning to workers of iniquity .. Gods Judgement will come,,but we can repent and we can be saved.

At 1:50 Fred Phelps himself said of Great Britain, "If I went over there and got out on the street, [with this sign] they would shortly arrest me." Now that's a direct quote from this video. He is essentially stating that he owes his freedom to the country that he hates. Would he prefer to be in jail? Maybe Britain's got the right idea.

the Bible doesnt say that. But we know that Jesus Christ forgives sin. John 6:37 says "Him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out. All through the New Testament Jesus forgave sin. Jesus is able to forgive sin. All have sinned the Bible says. Homosexuality was punishable by death in the old testament because it had the ability to shatter Gods early creation but the New Testament offers grace and forgivness.

while Phelps may gain followers with his message they will be mostly his offspring, some of whom will eventually reject his message, the rest (not many) will end up as insular as his family, and ultimately insignificant. In reality his message is turning off marginal bigots. Phelps is self-defeating.

As an atheist I can look at this objectively and say that these people seem to actually follow Christianity. The bible is full of cruelty from an unjust, insecure, evil, homicidal god named Yahweh. Modern Christians tend to gloss over his evil acts of sending bears to kill children, committing mass genocide of people who didn't follow him, human sacrifice, and general blood lust. So as an atheist I would label these people real Christians of the bible and those other ones as modern Christians.

Please Listen. If you are going to protest a Phelp's rally, there is only one thing you can do to stop them. Ignore them. Talk to every single protester about boycotting the Phelps protests. At 1:50 Fred Phelps himself said of Great Britain, "If I went over there and got out on the street, [with this sign] they would shortly arrest me." Now that's a direct quote from this video. He is essentially stating that he owes his freedom to the country that he hates. Would he prefer to be in jail? Maybe Britain's got the right idea.

And the Bible can be interpreted many different ways, and people like Fred Phelps take it much more literally. I see the Bible as having contradictions too, but saying that all Christians are hypocrites is a gross misinterpretation of the faith.

They are hypocrites in the sense of insisting they believe the Bible while rationalizing ways to ignore or explain away much of what the Bible says (about the OT God's behaviors, e.g.) You can't "interpret" away the basic gist of the entire OT. Christians all deny that God was heavy into slavery, even as they claim to believe what the Bible says about it. (God told people where to buy slaves & never spoke against it.)
