This is so cool!! I talked to Fredrik a couple of years ago and at that time he used a midi expression pedal that changed the speed of a digital delay somewhatand that gave that treally wicked sound. I think like the way a boss delay does when you change the delay speed, it warps... rrrrrrrr love that sound
i had been watching this video since its been put up and now i just figured out its on TesseracT's youtube,it makes sense now. Shows how much i pay attention. TesseracT fucking owns!
God Sweden sounds great! I mean, it's a couple of ugly nerds playing some of the darkest, mindboggelingly difficult music ever without vocals and the crowd is loving it.
What a privilege, to get to enjoy this in such a small, intimate setting. I love how they started going crazy when they heard the distortion kick in, heheh. I don't think I would have screamed; I'd have to wake up from my post-orgasmic faint, induced from knowing Fred stood six feet from my and would soon unleash. Wonderful stuff.
you are wrong. if you choose only to listen to the ride cymbal and lead guitar, you'll get the wrong impression. look at the vid that this one is a response to. you'll be able to hear more clearly what he's doing and why it's awesome. rhythm guitar/bass/bassdrum always get the shaft in sound clarity on camcorder mics...
But up until they burst into that medly they did, the drumming is just kinda absurd sounding to his leads. sometimes I get the idea morgan gets so excited he actually starts just hitting random things.
@MikePostDrums i think if you know the drummer and what he does, and keep an open mind its actually pretty cool. like i said i would use mallets. im sure alot of other people would use mallets as well.
buts its about creating the new and pushing the boundries so i think he did a fine job and created a pretty unique atmosphere, thats pretty recklessly smooth.
I'm pretty sure it wasn't a behringer midi pedal he using at this show. It was black one...very line 6 looking.
He uses a nord clavia which is in the rack underneath the heads which gets the weird sounds...aswell as technique! It might still be his custom 33 rack which is basically a custom nord synth thing only without the breath controller which he only seems to use on future breed machine now a days.
in the very beginning? he just uses very thin gauge strings, and he pushes his tremolo bar. if you have one, you can try it too. pick a note, than hit the tremolo bar quick to get that weird sound. Allan Holdsworth does it very often.
Video much appreciated, but why can't the camera guy stay still. Thordendal is the shit, but apparently his sonic prowess makes the videographer's hinds shake incessantly.
This is not a typical metal concert, and it's not really metal to begin with. Just because Thordendal plays in a metal band the people in the crowd don't have to act like a pack of wolves with ADHD. Some situations lend themselves for it, like a concert in a big theatre or an open-air festival, where everyone is shitfaced anyway. This is different. That guy should have been kicked in the balls repeatedly, until the sound frequency of his yelling exceeded 20KHz.
Sol niger is very fucking metal! Even though it has odd time signatures and holdsworth style solos sol niger within is an extremly heavy sinister sounding album. It's definatly metal just way beyond what most metal bands are doing. Which is pretty funny considering the album was made over ten years ago.
Anyway this was the mats/morgan all star band the Sol niger portions were metal and no doubt a big reason alot of people watched but the rest of the set was more jazz fusion and experimental.
hehe yeah. well my mate was who I was right next to. one of the best gigs ive been to! the hangover wasn't pretty the day after...the boat was rocking everywhere.
Sunn O))) ..nothing of the sort. i take it you're well versed in mastodon, considering your name, however; much more of a coltrane/davis/holdsworth influence here. pure jazz. feel the rolls off agren's set. merely artist's complimenting each other. nobody trying to steal the spotlight. that's why these two are an amazing pair.
haha no offense. it seems alot of mastodon/lamb of god/etc. fans try to get into this stuff and label it as "crap" because of its complexity. If you're trying to get a feel for SNG, this isnt the best example. Don't get me wrong, its an amazing section, probably my most favourite riff of all time (along with tool's Triad) but the album itself is much more jazz based (mostly the soloing). although fredrik is (in)famous for his rhythm, you can find alot more of the jazz in the actual album.
i'm pretty sure Sikth only had that one album, I do believe a couple the guys out of that band have formed another band kinda Sikth like, but the name escapes me right now.
