The Oder river offence near Kustrin bridgehead was started at night. The Germans had pulled back to the Seelow heights just before the artillery although tremendous fell on minimum German positions. Heard in Berlin. Also the Russians used searchlights which just made them easy targets by backlighting them. The Americans and British where waiting at the Elbe river.
