How can Nirvana hate Pearl Jam? Two great bands from the same place should at least have respect for each other at the least. I personally love both bands.

If you guys new your shit then you would know Kurt Cobain didn't like them because Pearl Jam started outselling them with only one album. People need to respect both Kurt and PJ. Yes, Kurt did not like Eddie's band. He thought they were too mainstream and straight forward while also being considered a huge grunge/hard rock band. But so what? Not everyone is going to enjoy each other's material. This isn't a feud and this took place years ago even if it was. They were friends. Eddie even wrote a song for Kurt after his passing.

Music isn't just about vocals so even if you think eddie vedder has a better singing voice doesn't mean the band is better. Kurt Cobain did not like their first album at the time because there were to many guitar leads which didn't sound like an alternative album to him. It had nothing to do cobain not liking vedder's voice. If you listen to music strictly for vocals listen to Aretha Franklin

@bcheeseful How? He had an opinion and he wasn't exactly a douche about it, he didn't speak about any of the individuals personally, apart from to say that Eddie Vedder was a really nice guy. My favourite band is Nirvana but I'm a fan of Pearl Jam too and i'm not offended by this in the slightest.

@CanadianChronic2121 Nothing "is" grunge.... Its a word people made up to describe a new style of music including many bands with a similar sound at a certain point in time. So your right in that Pearl Jam "isn't" grunge, but was Pearl Jam a band that contributed enormously to the fact that the word exists? Did the people who made the word up intend to include Pearl Jam? Certainly. Its all music....choose yours and dont get hung up on such labels.

Whatever 'real' grunge is; Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana & Alice In Chains were labelled as one of them... also Green River/Mudhoney, Spluii Numa, Temple Of The Dog, Love Battery, Stone Temple Pilots.
Green River, with the 'grunge' sound dating back to early 80s (NOT LATE 80s), sounded somewhat like Nirvana's Bleach (SOMEWHAT). Just saying... most notable bands have root influences.

People need to respect both Kurt and PJ. Yes, Kurt did not like Eddie's band. He thought they were too mainstream and straight forward while also being considered a huge grunge/hard rock band. But so what? Not everyone is going to enjoy each other's material. This isn't a feud and this took place years ago even if it was. They were friends. Eddie even wrote a song for Kurt after his passing.

I mean listening to the same music over and over and over again can kinda drive you crazy..... maybe artists NOW should actually put forth effort into what they do and give some variety.. music seemed to be more involved back then.... it basically became like this kind of life style.... and a lot of those bands who were "mainstream" weren't viewed as such because they were actually talented. Then again its only my opinion. Not bitching and moaning either.

@ZacusD keep in mind that nirvana was a mainly a 3 man band and pearl jam a 5 man band. Music isn't just about vocals so even if you think eddie vedder has a better singing voice doesn't mean the band is better. Kurt Cobain did not like their first album at the time because there were to many guitar leads which didn't sound like an alternative album to him. It had nothing to do cobain not liking vedder's voice. If you listen to music strictly for vocals listen to Aretha Franklin

I agree Tom Morelllo is an amazing guitarist but I suggest you listen to Nirvana's demos, live, and unpopular songs where Cobain played some great solos like Endless Nameless, Aero Zeppelin, Heartbreaker cover and many more earlier songs. Many people think Cobain was a bad guitarist which isn't true.
