also forgot the movie and the band played on . i love the music in the moive it helps tells the hunting story of how aids was introduce into the world
@S0NiCCCCC No, you're right. Hans is great. Danny Elfman also. Carter just has a style that is very unique. I still remember the opening of "Fargo" and that violin when all of a sudden the whole orchestra hits and you see the car coming out of the snow fog. Powerful stuff. Slainte.
@triplettam Me too!! Fargo will always stick out to me as well as the music for Being John Malkovich, the opening of Fear (Reese Witherspoon and Mark Wahlberg) and The Jackal. The music for the Spanish Prisoner is pretty amazing too
@jennaE36 The sample at 6:23 is not from the OST but from Scream of Love, a single released to support the film. No one involved with making the movie wanted to do it but the studio insisted on having some kind of music tie-in, so they could use MTV for free publicity. Rather than hiring a generic rock band, Anthony Perkins managed to convince them to go with a 'popped up' version of the score. If you want to hear the haunting and brilliant original, search for Psycho 3 - Maureen in the Desert
@josswhedon692 to be honest with you I had never heard of Carter Burwell until twilight. Even though I had seen movies with his songs in them. But since Twilight sagas scores cds it's opened up my eyes to more instrumental music and I have to say his one of the best. So dont be mad that thats what you get most of. Think of it this way. It is something that is getting both him and his work noticed by more people and more people are liking his music. In the end everyone is winning.
the theme to barton fink is just so powerful and amazing, just like the film!
carter burwell is easily one of my favourite composers of all time. he just writes music so fitting to whatever its featuring in, and it can be listened to out of context and still have such a powerful effect on you.
I dont know if I've already commented this, I probably already have, but which song from the 'Rob Roy' soundtrack is used in this clip? And the Alamo? Oh film soundtracks, who the hell needs pop music!
love "the alamo" and "Conspiracy theory"--those're two of my faves. and you guys say he did "In bruges"? didn't know he did that--wow, i need to look that up again, love that insane flick.
I clearly hear the similarity! :D But first after I read your comment... :D I'm a big fan of his work on The Twilight Score and Gods And Monsters - but I like Clint Mansell best... ;)
I don't think that the 'Fargo' and 'Rob Roy' themes are that similar however they are both very Burwellian (not surprisingly), and both have influence from Folksong, Norse and Gaelic respectively, and so that may be a reason that some see similarities in them.
To be honest, even if people hate Twilight, the score for that movie is great. I'm not saying the movie is anything but average, but the score he really good.
Annoying isn't it... although it must be said his work on twilight is brilliant and this piece alone (type in Carter Burwell 'I know what you are') would work miracles in a thriller of some sort... It lifts the film to the proportions the teenie boppers want it to be. Fortunately he didn't work on its sequel man - CAN YOU TELL!
Ok i'll shut up now but i've been a CB fan since the Coen days and you can just tell when his mind is involved. Pure Genius.
Fuck you...Bella's lullaby is his best work....beautiful piano playing and a great song....for a comment like that id gladly smash you in the forehead with a Hammer XD....
@josswhedon692 Carter Burwell is one of my favorite composers. And while I agree it makes me angry to see him only credited for Twilight, he did some awesome music for it, such as: I Know What You Are.
Yes the music is amazing but I don't think it fits the Twilight Movie so well... Well Twilight Movie was a big whoops I think. Its gone in just what? One week?
The hoax has a nice beat! Love it. The Alamo was very sad but love the music! Barton Fink was cool with the ding in the back ground. BW2 was dark. Very cool! Fur was nice with the Piano! made it sound a little scary. A knights Tale was amazing@ I love that movie and the music just makes me love it more! That was my favorite music.
You can hear The General's daughter coming through clearly on Being John Malkovich...my second fave score from Carter Burwell. His genuis is second only to Ennio Morricone's and perhaps John Williams.
Good selection, though I can't help but lament the absence of IN BRUGES, which I truly hope nets Burwell an Oscar nomination next winter. Beautiful score.
Hearing the cut from GODS & MONSTERS, I definitely hear the resemblance to BEING JOHN MALKOVICH (right down to the chimes), but that doesn't take away from the beauty of either work.
Where's THE GENERAL'S DAUGHTER? Though I'm a huge fan of Mr Burwell's work, notice how one could interpolate his cues from BEING JOHN MALKOVICH, GODS & MONSTERS and THE HI-LO COUNTRY and it would sound like the same theme? Hafta think that an editor used one for a "scratch" or "temp" track and the director fell in love with the cue. Either way, my vote for his best score goes to HI-LO COUNTRY, an entertaining and under appreciated flick directed by Stephen Frears.
actually rob´s lullaby was too long (5 minutes) and very slow so production decided to put another one, but rob has composed 2 songs of the twilight soundtrack
He certainly is pleasant to listen to! Thanks so much for posting! Now I want to get many of those, particularly Rob Roy, that sounds lovely. Didn't know he did Knight's Tale, that's really cool.

No offense, but the Carter Burwell score for Psycho 3 is the kind of music that belongs in a Sega Genesis game, like the cue at 6:23.

@jennaE36 It was 1986, give the guy a break LOL! That type of music was popular then.
