I remember watching this at Sidelines Sports Bar in Atlanta. Still to this day this is about the most incredible play I have ever seen. If this was truly ad lib and not called by the coaches, your cousin must be one of the most bold and confident and crazy SOBs on the planet LOL
I'm an Alabama Grad and a huge Bama fan. I remember watching this on TV. It has to be one the best plays I have ever seen. Just one question...Does anyone know if this was called from the sideline or did he call his own number?? Thanks for posting!!
That is still the longest rushing play for a TD in Vandy history. I was there the night it happened. The Alabama fans were stunned and so were we. I appreciate you putting it up.
I was a ball boy for Vandy at this time & i loved when he took off & scored that TD! i was on the opposing side running balls..That was not what we Vandy fans were expecting! That was such a great time.. Go 'Dores!
I remember watching this game with my brother. WE were thinking and hoping Vandy upset Alabama. I think they lost like 35-27 or something. ANyways that play we thinking man that punter was fast. That QB Vandy was very frustrating to watch, erratic. He overthrew wide open recievers, ran fast and then would throw ball out of bounds. He was skitzo. Good game though.
I can't believe you posted this play. You have no idea how happy this makes me. I was at this game as a young Vanderbilt fan. Still the longest run in Vandy history, by the way!
@LMJmarinangel Your cousin was an *amazing* high school tailback. Probably the best in McHenry High School history. I remembering watching his HS games when I was in 8th grade and my freshman year. He was a senior when I was a freshman.
I think he was recruited to Vanderbilt as a running back? So the coaches certainly knew about his running ability.

I briefly played with Billy in high school. He was unbelievable. But better still I remember Bill as a hard worker and a good person.

Oh yeah, if there are any old McHenry clips out there, I would love to see them.

Glad you posted this video. Wasn't your cousin a high school tailback? I seem to remember something about your cousin having a pet snake.
