  • Wow I remember watching this with my dad (RIP) He loved it and so did I! Any ideas on the original transmission dates?

  • @flyingfisbeefilms May to June 1981.

  • After seeing this episode on youtube I purchased the series, question is how do I upload it..

  • @brumfan01 - First you have to 'rip' the DVDs to your HD as a file using DVDx or Vidomi, then you need to segment the episodes into 10 minute pieces (You Tube doesn't allow more) using video editor like WMM. Then you upload the segments which takes forever. Then hope that You Tube don't delete them for breach of copyright.

  • Can anyone tell me where to buy this dvd for the US?

  • @usmclvnv Amazon

  • brilliant drama. There's load of one-offs, or just three part dramas from the kind of era, though not quite as good as this one, but which everybody has forgotten about. This original drama was actually better than 'The History Man', which was in any case based on a novel.

  • An absolute BELTER of a drama. Holds a firm place in my all time top 10 shows. Elphick is superb but (of course) it is Ian Richardson who steals the series. In an age of endless repeats I fail to comprehend why this doesn't get shown more frequently on television. Top class entertainment!

Yes! This was when my admiration of Ian Richardson began. I can still remember, decades later, how delighted I was to discover him.

  • similiar to I claudius play?

  • thank you for posting this

  • fantastic thank you....

remember this from a long time ago...

    das ist gutt,very gutt.

  • Ack! Where is the rest of it? Please don't leave me hanging!

  • The rest of Episode 1 is in my videos. The other episodes are not sadly.

  • @trap0001 Oh bloody h--l! I was so happy to have found this at long last and so disappointed to find only Ep. 1. It's the most brilliantly funny and cleverist satire I've ever seen. I cannot believe it disappeared after just one showing on PBS here in the colonies. However, thank you so much for posting what you had.

  • Thanks for positing this. I saw one episode (the one where Schulz gets dropped in England with the fivers) on Masterpiece Theatre 18 years ago, and have been wanting to see it in it's entirety ever since. Nobody I know ever even heard of it. It's reassuring to know that it actually did exist and I didn't just dream it. Thanks again.

  • When will this be released on DVD? Anyone?

  • try torrents

  • It has been released on DVD now - I got it off Amazon for about 9 quid the other week!

  • I LOVE THIS SERIES!!! Brilliant, genius!! only saw it once on pbs!!

  • Thank you! It's been years since I last saw this, and it's as witty as I remember...

  • Have you seen the new Film Die Falscher based on the same story?

  • Haven't seen this since it was first shown on the bbc....a fantastic series.. many thanks for posting it.

  • wheb was this made, Elphic is quite young here.
