2. When he touches the keys with his nose immediately praise him or use the clicker. Make him sit then give him a treat. (Touch Keys with nose, praise/click,sit,treat)
3. Repeat until your dog gets it. This is the foundation.
4. Now do the exact same thing except stand on the other side of a door, wait about 10 seconds and then proceed.
Not trying to argue with you but your beautiful dog looks to be a tri color pit bull not rott mix but I may be wrong look up tri color pits and you will see what I mean
Hmm, it's a close one. I've seen some rott/pits that looks just like him but I also just searched for some tri color pits and they look very similar too. Now you have me wondering. Only way to really know would be through a DNA test. If I ever do one I'll post it back here.
Thanks for the info! I can't wait to get started on this! :)

First of all, your dog is adorable! But I really want to know how you taught him to do this? I would love to train my pup

@MissVansant
In small steps, it just takes patience =)
1. Dangle keys in front of your dog

At this point all you really have to do is increase the difficulty/distance/visibility of the keys. The stages go something like this:
1. Keys at 10ft from door (but in view)
2. Keys at 20ft from door (but in view)
3. Keys at 20ft from door (partially hidden)
Once you start hiding the keys completely, rub the scent of the reward treat on the the keys to encourage your dog to use his nose
Work on it 2 x a day for 15m and it will surprise you how smart your dog is!
