  • does anybody know the name of the documentary this footage is from, i have had it on VHS, but lost it and tried to find it on the internet for a while now without any luck. I thought the name was "the warriors of formula 1" but when doing a search on google i end up with nothing

  • @hace77 Any chance it was the one on BBC a few months back? I watched that, but also forget the name......

  • I heard rumours, yes rumours which should be taken with a grain of salt, that he could've been saved? But the surgeons etc. started working on him too quick when he was still in shock etc. causing him to die? - Does anyone know if that's remotely true?

  • @aztaclalz I am currently reading James Hunts biography and apparently the Italian police did not allow anyone, including doctors or the official F1 doctor Sid Watkins near the drivers or the track, it was 18 minutes before any of them saw a doctor.

  • @aztaclalz Ronnie himself gave thumbs up for the surgeons to start work on his legs. wrong choice sadly , as bone marrow leaked out in the blood stream during the operation & caused his death :-(

  • A sudden shift of the McLaren of James Hunt, who found himself locked between Patrese and Swedish, caused the accident.

  • 0:42 The car !!!!!!!!

  • i rimember this gp..it was my bhirtdate.. 11 sept. 1979...i was 11...sad day..i and my cousins watching tv...but i remember poor Ronnie die in the night for embolism...the crash was not dangerous for his life..(a break leg i remeber right?) Vittorio Brambilla lost sense for head impact..i remember medic bouletin. RIP Ronnie..we lost a SIR of F1 that day. (excuse for my english)

  • Even if Patrese was somewhat at fault, he can't take the full blame. It was the starters fault mainly. Starting the race while the backmarkers are still moving, and the guys up front at or near a dead stop? That's a recipe for disaster no matter who is in the cars

  • RIP Ronnie: you were a great champion! Unfortunately a mistake of the backmarkers caused your death and anybody can't save you!

  • @BarryDennen12 Don't be so disrespectful. A man lost his life that day, doing what he loved.

  • Patrese didn´t necessary have to touch anyone, the race was green-flagged to early, the backmarkers hadn´t come to a complete halt, Patrese took advantage of his spped relative to the others by overtaking several cars outside the track, on the tarmac next to the pit, when he again entered the actual track he started a chain of events that killed Ronnie

  • It's weird but, in Hunt's Wikipage, it says that Hunt claims that Patrese caused the accident, and that video footage proved Patrese did not touch any car. Surely, you can cause an accident without touching a car, but I have this feeling that everybody seems to believe the idea of an ex-champion, although being based on an idea, which will never be proven. The track WAS very unsafe, that is a fact.

  • rough times

  • Patrese should have been banned from F1 forever. Poor Hunt got his life destroyed by this. RIP Ronnie Peterson

  • Absolutely not. Patrese was not to blame; he was made a scapegoat.
