  • Hearing what it could do to my body helped me because I denied I had the disorder for five years. Of course, I told myself, I'm not bulimic; I'm too fat to be bulimic. I was scared out of it. I've only slipped three times in the last three months.

  • Ive been bulimic for about 2 years now, And I have gained 10 pounds from it.

    :s

I feel gross and awful, Not I do a lot of binging without purging.

  • you just have no idea

  • saying that it didnt exist till 1950 is a bit silly. It has always been around, maybe it just wasnt known about until 1950

  • see i have been accused of being anorexic because i go through periods of not eating or eatin under 200 cals..but i get times where say i eat slightly over 200 say even just 50 cals more and il vomit, which i am now told that its bulimia not anorexia.funny enough ive had this for years and i am of a so called normal weight.whats gone wrong

  • @kazza224

yhoo prop have a really really slow motabilism..

yewre stomach could b really small..

    i'm just guessin tho..

  • yep the Romans used to do it so I don't know where the 1950s appeared from

  • @pixianalove Yeah but I think the difference is that the Romans did not do it for reasons to do with weight and shape; an unhealthy obsession with body image is key to the bulimia nervosa diagnosis.

Also if the behaviour is socially common and acceptable then it probably is not suitable to classify it as a mental illness. Part of the criteria for defining abnormality is deviation from social norm.

  • This massively oversimplifies a complex and debilitating disorder. Very few if any have the determination to 'recover' by themselves. Knowing more about the condition DOES NOT make it any easier/harder to 'recover' either, so I don't see how books/reading would be of any help, except in finding tips, which will only exacerbate the eating disorder. Often it is only fear that drives bulimic to seek help. This video is about as pathetic and wishy-washy as the NHS treatment of eating disorders.

  • The Romans also did that during feasts that would last for days, they even had a spot for it called a Vomitorium. Throwing up does not make you a bulimic any more than getting super drunk on your birthday makes you an alcoholic. HUGE difference. Bulimia is just an addiction like any other addiction, just a different format.

  • Thanks

  • I think the reason people are nitpicking so much of what she said is because it's natural to be defensive when somebody hits on what's wrong with you.

She only had 3 minutes to cover the basics, people. Let's not go overboard with the attempts to refute what she says.

  • Janet Treasure is a top researcher in the field of EDs, out of a handful of researchers in neuroscience on anorexia. Everything she said is correct, keep in mind this is three minutes! She doesn't have all day to talk about everything!! Also, purging low amounts of food is more a symptom of purging-type anorexia or ED-NOS. Eating large amounts of food is key to the bulimia diagnosis.

  • 'there can be SOME problems with bulimia, it can damage the teeth.. but other than that most of the physical signs of bulimia do settle'

so you will mess up your teeth but everything else will be just awesome, kids.

what a joke =/ love how a so-called expert neglects to mention how it can kill you instantly without warning, even the first time you throw up. oh and then there's the risk of gastric rupture, tearing your oesophagus, going into cardiac arrest from an electrolyte imbalance..

  • maybe she ment that you cant see it. like u can see your teeth so u can see the damage. u cant see tears in the oesophagus or an electrolyte imbalance.

  • what she doesnt mention is bulimis dont always over eat. they can often eat little to nothing and throw it up.

  • first off you don't even know how to spell bulimia. She was only on here for like 3 minutes she can't really give an in dept speech about it. That isn't categorized as bulimia unless its a habit and its done with large amounts of food, other then that its just called purging.

  • this doesnt help at all

  • I love how there was a thin manican behind her the entire time, while she was saying being thin is over exagerated. They could have removed that from the backround.

  • i know right? i was thinking that the entire time!
