  • good deadlift.... but 285 pounds?)))) i can bench it with my penis...

  • how long've you been training for?

  • Good lifts...like me your bench is lagging... I have to gain bodyweight to push my bench up. How do you train? Ceck out my vids if you want to

  • Gotta bring that bench up brotha. Everthing else looking good.

  • it was okay for 200weight keep it up

  • nice job dude

  • props,i like the fact that its not a big dude doing this, people dont understand that you donthave to be big to ge strong

  • bad form all over. and he needs bands and belt and suit to perform those weights.his bench is really horrible. and the squat, arghh the form is awful

  • There's a guy that goes to my gym who bench presses 360kgs. FREAK!!!!

  • Nice lifting!

  • The arch in your back on the bench press is crazy. My back hurts just from watching that. Good job, dude.

  • nice to see another raw lifter. good job

  • Hell yea

    RAW MEANS POWER

  • watch those knees buckling, otherwise good shit, strong Deadlift

  • woah ur back is likea mountain wen u bench press

  • Awesome arch, and deadlift. I wish my deadlift was like yours, I squat as much(maybe more) as you but my deadlift isnt even close to touching yours.

    :( but awesome lifts

  • awesome arch?? its not even good if u ach..soo much help from ur body and it wont count.. the only thing he did ok with was squat..and goodluck to this kid when he hurts himself with those sped up goofy routines for his deadlift

  • First of all, arching is fine for the back. Second of all, its powerlifting.

    You're a fucking retard.

  • actually its not good for your back.?.what makes u think lifting weight doesnt add strees to your back when your back is positioned wrong?? You are a retard dooood

  • Except the part where there is no stress on your back.. Its on your upper back and Glutes.

Fucking idiot, do you even work out?

  • ok child ur a moron u dont even know what ur talkin bout..and u look stupid as fuk in ur goofy suit are u serious.. ??haaa ur a dummy

  • Congratulations! You have improved the squat. The deadlift is still your best lift. That one you master completely. The squat setup is still pretty loose. Very good fighting through the sticky point. The benchpress is a lift where you need patience and time. It will come along too. My squat is stronger than yours, but not my deadlift. But it won't last long Matt! :)

  • Thanks, Per...but this video is form August. :-) I've gotten better in the bench and deadlift, but I'm also going to 181 for this next meet on Feb 28th. So I'll probably only catch up once I'm back to 198. :-)

  • Oh. :) I still stand by my comment anyway. I tought it was your newest video, but when you say so I think I remember a even bigger deadlift? Well, there you have it, I have good intentions, but don't always pay attention to the details! :) I tought I'd just drop by your channel to look for news. Well, no problem... You are bookmarked now anyway. It must be hard restricting you to one weight class, but more power to you! :D

  • Haha, no worries. I just missed a 585lb deadlift at my last meet, due to a grip issue. This should be fixed and I hope to get it (at least) next time...depending on how much the weight loss has affected me strenght.

  • Was that raw, good weight anyway! If it was raw, it was totally awesome!

  • You know me...always raw!

  • You just outscaled the awesomenessometer! :)

  • @kraftsportNO Yea, thats me, My squat is stronger, and my bench is about the same, but his deadlift is great! Great job!

  • Subscribed. Great raw lifts.

  • Cheers, man.

Just when I thought I'd seen the YouTube page of everyone who trains with Matt G... Awesome lifts yourself.

  • spectacular.. probably one of the best looking squat I have seen

  • awesome vid! I am 200lbs, and it's very motivational to see someone with similar strengths. I'll try to post some vids i'm at 515 deadlift, 295 bench, and 455 squat... wish ya the best in your training!

  • Good luck in your training as well.

Let me know if you end up getting a vid up!

  • the real motivation come from the fact that he is a real drug free athlete.

  • Hey I have a couple questions: What kind of oly shoes are those and where did you purchase them?

    Thanks

  • Hey, they're actually powerlifting shoes. I picked them up here from "Safe USA." Google it and you should be able to find them pretty easily.

  • God damn, dude. You were cloooooose on that 570.

  • Yea man, next time.

  • Time goes very fast, and I haven't checked your videos for a while, haven't been so much here on youtube lately. Spend a lot of time on studies. But tonight I saw your video, and I am impressed. You have improved. Especially I think your deadlift is rock solid, and the way you fought trough the squat was impressive. The benchpress will also go up soon. Good to see you doing well! Regards from Norway!

  • Thanks, Per! :-)

I'm just glad that the squat is finally starting to catch up to the deadlift a little bit, haha. Looks like your training is going well too!

    Take care.

  • Squat form has come miles Matt, good work.

  • Cheers, brother.

  • Great form man. My squat form has evolved along the way and it is starting to look just like your. Can you explain the foot stomping?

  • Thank you. Sheiko certainly gives me a TON of form practice.

In regards to the foot stomping, I can't really explain it. It's just a mental cue that reminds me to put some speed into my squat. It didn't develop on purpose, but it's stuck around a bit. Kind of like the arm thing I do before deadlifting.

  • the deadlift is fucking sick, nice work man! raw all the way!

  • Cheers!

  • Nice lifting, Sheiko seems to work much better for you than me. Good luck in Turkey.

  • Thanks man, you too.

Good to see another fellow actor and strength athlete.

  • Awesome PR's man!...how long was this sheiko cycle for this test...any thoughts of what you will do for your bench...

  • Thanks, man!

The cycle was 12 weeks and it's my second time through it.

In regards to the bench, I'm going to be adding in more tricep and lockout work. I'll substitute regular benches with some 2 board benches and some benches with chains as well.

I'm open to suggestion if you have any ideas as well...

  • nice bro you smashed that squat, and that deadlift is impressive. How come you don't use ur belt when you bench? I find it helps me.

  • Thanks!

I've never really found it to help. And actually, my arch is so big that I find it limits how far I can bench my back anyhow.

In what way do you find it useful?

  • Nice pb's! Well done on the last deadlift very good pull after missing a big attempt

  • Cheers, Ian! I had the strength for 570, but gripped the bar off-center and it just sapped my strength too much to recover.

Still, I'm glad I got some PR. :-)

  • Inspirational performance. That's what it's all about. Big PR's. Work somemore on tricep and total arm strength for the bench. Your elbows flaired quite a bit. Weak triceps. Awesome lifts, keep it up.

  • Thanks so much. I agree with our assessment of my bench weakness.

  • dude just imagine when you get a king deadlifter on, you will destroy those DLs!!!

  • IF I get one on... :-)

  • you ballin' in turkey now?

  • Sick squat and deadlift PRs, bro.

  • Thanks, Max.

  • ... still, I know you want to drive your 1RMs up and, hard as you've worked, you deserve at least a 10 lbs. PR on your bench.

Maybe you could rest up for a bit more and try to hit the bench fresh? I just KNOW you've got 315 in you, Matt.

Like I said, great stuff. Best -- Sean

  • I agree, I think I deserve it too. :-)

I definitely was NOT fresh coming back from Turkey though, haha.

Thanks, and I'll get there one day...

  • NICE!

I think you could've squatted 440 if you weren't gassed by the 425 and 430 attempts, but hey: you'll know to start that much higher next time ;)

That 570 pull was SO close. I'm more than confident that you've got a triple-bw pull in you.

    But, I do wonder ...

Is it possible Shieko isn't ideal for your bench training? I'd have to say it's still a successful cycle for the bench, inasmuch as I'm willing to bet you could get a shit-ton more reps with lighter weights ...

  • I agree, I do think that 440 could have been possible, especially if I had cut depth a little. I had a side camera measuring depth and I easily could've shaved an inch or so off.

Deadlift strength was there. I gripped the bar wrong and was pulling off-center from the start. I know I would have had 570 and maybe 575 if it wasn't for the technical error.

Well, it's not necessarily "Sheiko" on it's own that's innefective. Floor presses, board presses, etc. can be worked into Sheiko.

  • But even when I was doing a "Westside" approach and reached a bodyweight of 220lb, I never hit 300.

Although this hasn't been an issue with benching before, my crappy shoulder started to give on both the 285 and 300. If you notice, my left side kind of buckles unexpectedly on the last attempt. Anyhow, some changes will be made to the bench programming.

    And I agree...I think I deserve at least 300. :-)

    Thanks for the feedback.

  • Westwide is worthless for bench/chest (although they've been turning up good benchers lately) What you need to work on bench wise is your lockout, start training with a 10" block, work on your lockout, you definitely have the strength out of the hole you just have no lockout, forearms help that too... your DL is freakish though... we have roughly the same frame and here are my raw lifts....

    5'9" 195 lbs *(lift at 181)

    Bench: 385

    Squat: 550

DL: 495 (maybe you can help?? ha)

  • I'm certainly going to be incorporating more tricep and lockout work this time around.

As for your deadlift, a video of your squat and dead would be quite helpful. Your bench relative to your deadlift may mean that you simply have short arms, which is our of your control, of course.

With a beastly squat like yours, you should most likely be pulling sumo to take full advantage of your thigh strength. Do you currently use a conventional stance?

  • *I meant my right shoulder and right arm buckles.

  • Nice work Matt! Congrats on the PRs.

  • Thanks, Matt! I'm putting your squat set-up advice to good use! :-D

  • Ohh yeah!!! Way to go man! That ends my wondering if Sheiko works as good as advertised. Awsome job grinding through on the squats, and I bet throwing four plates and then some on the bar was long overdue, and felt amazing. That bench looked really close, and the deadlifts were strong as always. Keep it up!

  • It did feel great. :-) Thanks.

    How's your training going?
