Wow, this is really crappy of Gallagher to do this to this comedian in front of a live audience. He seemed like such a nice guy back in the day. You'd think an old pro would be kinder to new talent.
wow that gallagher's a real asshole. he hires this guy and doesn't let him know he's just going to rip on him for being a weak comedian. so are you gallagher. you're famous for showing objects that are out of scale and smashing fruit for people who piss themselves laughing every time they see someone gets hit in the nuts on america's funniest home videos
You kids that are saying things about Gallagher as if he isn't a first class comedian. That shows how young you are. He is and was one of the best comedians to grace a stage. He forced the audience to use their brains instead of just using cursing and sexual content to fill his routine. Those who don't think Gallagher is funny usually just don't "get" his material. The truth is that Eric was clearly bombing on stage and Gallagher bailed him out and saved his set.
This guy is a dick. He's acting like the big cheese of comedy when he was lackluster to begin with. He's only showing how insecure he feels about his own career cause, in reality, no one really gives a crap about him anymore.
Hey Gallagher, you're interrupting the kids show. Isn't that what you hate the most? People interrupting YOUR show? You fucking old, bitter cocksucker. Your shit isn't relevant anymore. Get over it.
Gallagher is giving this guy some proper advice. You do have to open with some quick jokes before you go into longer stories, but interrupting the kid's set is fucked up. Let him bomb and learn.
I wonder if people are really so retarded that they don't see that gallaghers show stuff was on a table behind the guy. The guy lost momentum. The clapping joke was a hack job off of a joke Seinfield did. And he drew it out too long. Gallagher was teaching the guy there. And seeing as he has years of experience on the guy he kind of has a right to step up and tell the younger generation how to tell jokes. And wishing for an old man to die. You guys are pathetic.
@SabastianBurke No, you pull him off to the side after his set and school him. This was nothing more than an attempt by Gallagher to show what a sanctimonious ass he is.
To modify a Lincoln quote ... What Gallagher was trying to do for Eric here wasn't just for this show, but also for a vast future. This wasn't Gallagher motivated by malice. This was Gallagher knowing that 500 gigs from now, when Eric is a headliner, this single show is irrelevent. Learning is often messy and embarrassing, but so's conking out onstage. And it's classic comedy advice, too: Short jokes early, longer bits later. Start strong, finish strong. You can't miss with good material.
@scquith If that were really the case, Gallagher should have waited for him to finish performing to dispense that advice. However, it's not the case. Gallagher was just being a self-serving prick.
@gremlin508 Okay, im sorry to hear that. He had a dream though and he went for it. All the respect to his spirit and my condolences to his family and freinds.
That is super shitty of him. A good veteran will watch from the sides and if he or she wants to help out, they'll talk to the new guy afterwards. Dick.
Gallagher was not trying to help. If he really wanted to help this kid out he would have done it privately after his set. His only intention was to embarrass an inexperienced open miker.
@KevinFroleiksComedy but wouldnt you say he learned something? Didnt he perform better afterwards? I think he did and thought it was fucking hilarious!
@addeps3 I would not. He would have learned just as well by bombing. Gallagher didn't need to embarrass him like that. Gallagher seems to have gotten "being an asshole" confused with being "a wise old sage". I'm sure he acted like it was hilarious...because he was on stage, but after I'm willing to bet that he was pissed about it.
@addeps3 I'm sure the audience thought it was funny, but I can almost guarantee that the comic was mortified. It's one thing to have an audience member yell at you, but to have the host come up and basically cut your balls off in front of the crowd is not funny. You're right to say live and learn, but Gallagher should have let the kid bomb (lesson 1) and then point out what he could do to improve after his set ended (lesson 2).
@addeps3 Here's an analogy that may help you see what I'm getting at. Imagine you're in a classroom and you just handed in an essay that you wrote for an assignment. Now imagine that instead of writing comments and critiques on the paper, your teacher decided to point out what you did wrong in front of the whole class. It's embarrassing and unprofessional, no matter how much of a sense of humor you have.
@addeps3 He could have, but I thought you were arguing about whether or not he learned something from this experience? Imagine if you wrote your argument up as an essay and your teacher just grilled you in front of THE EVERYONES in the class. You'd probably feel stupid and embarrassed if THE SOMEONES did that you and pointed out THE YOURS mistakes.
@KevinFroleiksComedy Okay so we both agree that he could have taught him privatley afterwards or like this, and because the kid gave up the mike its kinda his own fault, kay? KAY!
@addeps3 Listen I don't care, I've been doing comedy for a little over a year now. My opinions are based off of personal observations and experiences at open mics like this. Why don't you try writing 5-7 minutes of jokes and performing them. You'll see what it's like to "learn". I've been booed off stage, had people threaten me after a show, and had audiences that were too drunk to pay attention. You don't have the ammunition to hurt my feelings.
@KevinFroleiksComedy well i respect the fact that you perform on stage, and im happy to hear so. from the very beginning that i saw this vid i thougt "how would i handle an old man walkin up to me if it was my first set?" i guess i would simply acknowledge it, not give him the mike and wait for security...

@addeps3 Wait for security? Have you been to an open mic before? There's no fuckin security. You're lucky if there's an audience at all. And I'm sure you'd do a great job going off the cuff on your first set, since you seem so eloquent now.
@txcboy36 I just learned that the kid passed away this december. I gonna check if the author of this vid will add that to the despriction. bless his soul
A lot of harsh responses to this clip. Indeed, it's hard to watch, but the kid was dying onstage anyway. Gallagher understood the situation and offered Eric the kind of hands-on training that just isn't normally available. Gallagher's intent wasn't to embarrass the kid; it was to coach him on how to work an actual audience while the audience was present. Comedy is about doing lots of shows, and it can involve a lot of bombing; at least this bombing session came with insights from a veteran.
@scquith But you can get just as much insight from veterans by hanging around the comedy circuit. Even headliners need to work out material before they get onstage, open mic night isn't just amateur night and all you've gotta do is ask and ye shall receive. That wasn't hands-on training, that was a bitter old man clamoring for attention and exploiting someone's inexperience to get it.
Only the strong survive in this game... The guy should have retaliated and fired back at Gallagher if he wants to stay in this business.. When Gallagher introduce him, he should say, " Oh I wish I was somewhere else right now, maybe get into a Time Machine and crank it back to the 80's when Gallagher was actually funny and relevant."
This kid didn't commit suicide because of Gallagher but I'm sure Gallagher contributed to the downward spiral this kid was going through that led him to where he finded landed. Gallagher is not a happy guy, I get that, but his making other unhappy or trying to look like the hippest guy in the room doesn't do much to elevate his status. He's not a good guy and no matter how much he was, is or might again be one day..he should have had his ass kicked...severely. He parents must have sucked.
Regardless of how funny the "comedy legend" is, this is the most jaw-droppingly unprofessional behavior I've ever seen on stage. The kid's the opener, he's new, he needs to feel the pain and find his way, it'll take years to find his voice and his momentum, and if he bombs, he bombs, says goodnight, gets a round of applause and the middle comes and brings the crowd back. What you DON'T do as the headliner is hamstring your opener, steal his stage time as though you're doing him a favor.
What a freaking douchebag. That is one of the rudest things that a "comic" can do to another comic. To shoot a man when he is down is just being an a-hole. If he really wanted to help him out, he wouldve taken him to the side and not embarass him. We get it you HAD a name. "What is your name again?" what a dick! Evil Punk. I'm going to heckle Gallagher what a hack.
Honestly...I think the problem is with the title card "Gallagher schools..."
Gallagher stepped in and re-sparked the crowd when Eric wasn't doing so well. Another problem was, Eric didn't seem to go with the flow and attacked Gallagher. By then...no way to recover
fuck all of you that defend that fucking hack. he hijacked a show and fucked with that guy's momentum. thumbs up if you hope gallagher dies after you saw this.
If I hadn't known any better I would have thought this was some high school talent show and Gallagher was the kid's drama teacher coming up on stage to save him. Do kids ever really learn anything when the adults try to fix it for them?
What are ya'll talking about? Gallagher saved that kid! He got the entire room to embrace the awkwardness and shed their embarrassment and the dude ended up coming out and working off of that energy and being funny because of that, and he even threw in a nice improv-nod to one of Gallagher's earlier jokes - none of that would've happened in the manner it did if Gallagher hadn't gotten on stage, and I truly believe he did so with the best intentions, and it was a better performance because of it.
This is actually very funny. It's the uncomfort that is the funny. Gallagher doesn't want a bad show. So his brillient use of the uncomfort, makes what was going to be less than good, into a super funny impromptu bit! He saved the amatures set in reality!
I sincerely hope this was scripted. I can't believe Gallagher would do something so mean and devastating to someone who's trying to find his way toward doing comedy. Stand-up is NOT easy by any stretch.
This has to be planned. I can't believe any comedian would really screw up another comedian's act like that. That would be like a magician giving away another magician's tricks. It would be career suicide - not that there's much left of gallagher's career to kill.
doesnt take any balls to upstage another comedian or humiliate him. it takes real balls to get up on stage and perform. Fuck Gallagher. Keep going Eric! If there was any justice in the world, Richard Pryor would come back and show Gallagher how to be funny.
I understand he didnt want a dead crowd, but if he would have pulled that on me I would have ripped him for the next 5 minutes. Ill put my set from the New York Comedy Club up against any set of Gallaghers. And that was not exactly Eric Clapton helping out a kid with a blues lick. It was freaking Galllagher.
@TimHanlonComedy Right, so because you possess such comedic potency and, probably more importantly, confidence this type of scenario probably won't happen to you and if it does the outcome will vary greatly, so it's totally irrelevant. If that guy had the ability to wittily rip on him he would have; It's like comparing Coke to a freshly blended smoothie made with organic fruits and veggies.
I dont think he was trying to be an ass. These people paid to see comedy - and Gallagher respects that. He came in and decided to help spice things up. It actually turned a Boring and uninteresting performance into entertainment. Its not like He Talked shit to him or something - he turned the show into something everyone liked.
@xtraflo youre right (not being sarcastic).......however, if this was planned, hats off cuz its def original.....never seen a good/bad comedian routine...
the real ironic part about the comments on here trying to slander gallagher is that his whole act is about being an asshole saying stupid shit for a reaction heckling people and improv. that is all the guy does, and clearly he does that well. so all the people saying he's an asshole or calling him a dick only shows that he is accomplishing what he is trying to do, so these comments are harmless to his image. for a man like this you need mama jokes.
@LuquinRamon call it what you want he made a career out of it, regardless people like you are just paying into his act, as to your other comment "doesnt take any balls to upstage another comedian or humiliate him. it takes real balls to get up on stage and perform" he has been doing just that for over 25 years, i personally can't stand him but if you are on that stage for that long you earned the right to fuck with anyone you want to.
if you're gonna take over on the mic, you should be funnier than the guy you're kicking off stage. as bad as eric was, gallagher somehow managed to be worse.
Gallagher came of rude and i thought the kid woulda froze after that but he actually pulled trough. I think in some weird way Gallagher actually helped this kid out.
Gallahger was spot on, actually. Eric benefited from it also.
Gal. obviously had something to do with the event itself. After he showed the kid up, he let him go again; and he got laughs. That was the best thing that the Am. could ask for- as per guidance for his career!
I would only pay to watch Gallagher smash his dick with a sledgehammer. Be kind to people on the way up, because you will meet them on the way back down Gallagher!
Don't know what is funnier, the misspelled "Amatuer" in the title, or the word "legend" being associated with unfunny insecure douchebag homophobe NRA hack Gallagher.
Gotta admit the guy wasnt doing extremely well...but gallagher is crappy as hell and shouldnt try to give lessons. Dave Chapelle as Gallagher was funnier than the real gallagher lol.
It's open mic. I think Gallagher was really trying to help him out. All comedians have bombed before and Gallagher really did give him some good advice.
yea. I think the seasoned comedian saw a sinking ship and jumped on with a bucket. He poked fun so the crowd wouldn't with their silence. And he let the kid save face without losing the audience for the rest. very quick and it should be respected.
Read the last 10 comments or so and form your own opinion. I think a lot of them are accurate especially the ones about Gallagher not only in my opinion trying to save the show, but actually helping. I was not aware of the younger comedian before I saw this clip but think if you were up there would you have crumbled? or quit? At least he finished out. There is a grey area in life and especially comedy. Loosten up! I think the video is a learning tool for videographers and spectators!
Gallagher is one of those tell-it-like-it-is comedians. He says what's on his mind without any worry of retaliation. Gallagher is awesome and you can hate him for this, but he's just doing what he does. Gallagher FTW!
well everyone that doesn't like what gallagher was doin....he was doin it not only to help the kid out in the future, bc standup is very hard, but he was also helpin everyone else out that had an act that night bc the more the audiance laughs the more they're gonna laugh for everyone else...so if he would have left him up there then it could have potenially ruined the whole show bc it would have been harder for the next guy to get a laugh
@irishpitbull22 you are so wrong its incredible. Doing this is probably one of the most selfish egotistical things any comedian could do to another comedian, gallagher is a washed up comedian who shined for like 9 hours 30 years ago, he claimed hes not popular anymore because people are too dumb to get prop comedy....im serious his words....too dumb for prop comedy. I would've punched his old balls off if i was the kid.
@bobbiepiznug i disagree. Its open mic and this is how comedians( i am a working comic ) learn. "the legendary wid", a man the showed Gallagher and Carrot Top the prop comedy skill, did this to me and dozens of other comics in Philadelphia at the Laff House including Kevin Hart, TuRae, and Michael Blackson
yeah, not cool at all. Really neccesary to humiliate him in front of all people. Why not let him do his set and then talk to him afterwards. He's just trying to put him down
He's not a douche. He's trying to help the new comedian out. It may seem harsh, but it's better he learns by interruption than an audience not reacting or even booing him.
@Arikothal Better he learns by interruption? Really? Because any advice Gallagher might be willing to offer ("hey buddy, if people don't laugh, you should smash some fruit") couldn't wait until the guy was done with his set? It's not better to interrupt someone. It's douchier, though.
Honestly people if the guys not funny , whats better 1. letting the young guy bore the audience to death or 2. give the audience a show . Gallagher was trying to make the kid loosen up and not be so nervious .
its bad enough to be schooled mid-performance, but by gallagher? poor sod. he should show some solidarity towards other comedians, no matter how bad and inexperienced they are
If you donot like Gallagher you have 0 sense of humor.

Even headliners need to work out material before they get onstage, open mic night isn't just amateur night and all you've gotta do is ask and ye shall receive. That wasn't hands-on training, that was a bitter old man clamoring for attention and exploiting someone's inexperience to get it.
allthatisandeverwas 11 months ago
Only the strong survive in this game... The guy should have retaliated and fired back at Gallagher if he wants to stay in this business.. When Gallagher introduce him, he should say, " Oh I wish I was somewhere else right now, maybe get into a Time Machine and crank it back to the 80's when Gallagher was actually funny and relevant."
samuraiyao 11 months ago
This kid didn't commit suicide because of Gallagher but I'm sure Gallagher contributed to the downward spiral this kid was going through that led him to where he finded landed. Gallagher is not a happy guy, I get that, but his making other unhappy or trying to look like the hippest guy in the room doesn't do much to elevate his status. He's not a good guy and no matter how much he was, is or might again be one day..he should have had his ass kicked...severely. He parents must have sucked.
sunglass2 11 months ago
Regardless of how funny the "comedy legend" is, this is the most jaw-droppingly unprofessional behavior I've ever seen on stage. The kid's the opener, he's new, he needs to feel the pain and find his way, it'll take years to find his voice and his momentum, and if he bombs, he bombs, says goodnight, gets a round of applause and the middle comes and brings the crowd back. What you DON'T do as the headliner is hamstring your opener, steal his stage time as though you're doing him a favor.
boomaga 11 months ago 2
he was dying up there.gallagher saved his act.he kept people laughing an interested until the kid got it right.
allenlindley 11 months ago
What a freaking douchebag. That is one of the rudest things that a "comic" can do to another comic. To shoot a man when he is down is just being an a-hole. If he really wanted to help him out, he wouldve taken him to the side and not embarass him. We get it you HAD a name. "What is your name again?" what a dick! Evil Punk. I'm going to heckle Gallagher what a hack.
mrdoolittle906605 1 year ago
Honestly...I think the problem is with the title card "Gallagher schools..."
Gallagher stepped in and re-sparked the crowd when Eric wasn't doing so well. Another problem was, Eric didn't seem to go with the flow and attacked Gallagher. By then...no way to recover

Gallagher is a horrible human being.

If I hadn't known any better I would have thought this was some high school talent show and Gallagher was the kid's drama teacher coming up on stage to save him. Do kids ever really learn anything when the adults try to fix it for them?
Garonyldas 1 year ago
Gallagher may be funny here at the expense of a novice comedian. Eric passed away a month ago under tragic circumstances...

@desiderino THAT IS FUNNY! How tragic was it?

P.S. Gallager even handed him a joke at the beginning.
terminalmf 1 year ago
What are ya'll talking about? Gallagher saved that kid! He got the entire room to embrace the awkwardness and shed their embarrassment and the dude ended up coming out and working off of that energy and being funny because of that, and he even threw in a nice improv-nod to one of Gallagher's earlier jokes - none of that would've happened in the manner it did if Gallagher hadn't gotten on stage, and I truly believe he did so with the best intentions, and it was a better performance because of it.
terminalmf 1 year ago
This is actually very funny. It's the uncomfort that is the funny. Gallagher doesn't want a bad show. So his brillient use of the uncomfort, makes what was going to be less than good, into a super funny impromptu bit! He saved the amatures set in reality!

Iamthedoorwaymusic 1 year ago
I sincerely hope this was scripted. I can't believe Gallagher would do something so mean and devastating to someone who's trying to find his way toward doing comedy. Stand-up is NOT easy by any stretch.
AquaMizzle 1 year ago
Gallagher is hilarious! How can u be pissed at someone who only tells u the truth?
lemonberryslush 1 year ago
This has to be planned. I can't believe any comedian would really screw up another comedian's act like that. That would be like a magician giving away another magician's tricks. It would be career suicide - not that there's much left of gallagher's career to kill.
md65000 1 year ago
Wow, this is painful to watch. The poor guy didn't even have a chance. An experienced comedian can get laughs just for being on stage.

doesnt take any balls to upstage another comedian or humiliate him. it takes real balls to get up on stage and perform. Fuck Gallagher. Keep going Eric! If there was any justice in the world, Richard Pryor would come back and show Gallagher how to be funny.
LuquinRamon 1 year ago
I understand he didnt want a dead crowd, but if he would have pulled that on me I would have ripped him for the next 5 minutes. Ill put my set from the New York Comedy Club up against any set of Gallaghers. And that was not exactly Eric Clapton helping out a kid with a blues lick. It was freaking Galllagher.
TimHanlonComedy 1 year ago
@TimHanlonComedy Right, so because you possess such comedic potency and, probably more importantly, confidence this type of scenario probably won't happen to you and if it does the outcome will vary greatly, so it's totally irrelevant. If that guy had the ability to wittily rip on him he would have; It's like comparing Coke to a freshly blended smoothie made with organic fruits and veggies.

How is this guy an open miker? He is clearly opening for Gallagher.
danejcook 1 year ago
I dont think he was trying to be an ass. These people paid to see comedy - and Gallagher respects that. He came in and decided to help spice things up. It actually turned a Boring and uninteresting performance into entertainment. Its not like He Talked shit to him or something - he turned the show into something everyone liked.

the real ironic part about the comments on here trying to slander gallagher is that his whole act is about being an asshole saying stupid shit for a reaction heckling people and improv. that is all the guy does, and clearly he does that well. so all the people saying he's an asshole or calling him a dick only shows that he is accomplishing what he is trying to do, so these comments are harmless to his image. for a man like this you need mama jokes.
ouellette666 1 year ago
@ouellette666 the real ironic part, is that you consider him a comic.
LuquinRamon 1 year ago
@LuquinRamon call it what you want he made a career out of it, regardless people like you are just paying into his act, as to your other comment "doesnt take any balls to upstage another comedian or humiliate him. it takes real balls to get up on stage and perform" he has been doing just that for over 25 years, i personally can't stand him but if you are on that stage for that long you earned the right to fuck with anyone you want to.
ouellette666 1 year ago
if you're gonna take over on the mic, you should be funnier than the guy you're kicking off stage. as bad as eric was, gallagher somehow managed to be worse.

Gallahger was spot on, actually. Eric benefited from it also.
Gal. obviously had something to do with the event itself. After he showed the kid up, he let him go again; and he got laughs. That was the best thing that the Am. could ask for- as per guidance for his career!

It's open mic. I think Gallagher was really trying to help him out. All comedians have bombed before and Gallagher really did give him some good advice.
teebteeb1268 1 year ago 2

RichardWarren55 1 year ago
well everyone that doesn't like what gallagher was doin....he was doin it not only to help the kid out in the future, bc standup is very hard, but he was also helpin everyone else out that had an act that night bc the more the audiance laughs the more they're gonna laugh for everyone else...so if he would have left him up there then it could have potenially ruined the whole show bc it would have been harder for the next guy to get a laugh
irishpitbull22 1 year ago 4
@irishpitbull22 you are so wrong its incredible. Doing this is probably one of the most selfish egotistical things any comedian could do to another comedian, gallagher is a washed up comedian who shined for like 9 hours 30 years ago, he claimed hes not popular anymore because people are too dumb to get prop comedy....im serious his words....too dumb for prop comedy. I would've punched his old balls off if i was the kid.
bobbiepiznug 1 year ago 47
@bobbiepiznug i disagree. Its open mic and this is how comedians( i am a working comic ) learn. "the legendary wid", a man the showed Gallagher and Carrot Top the prop comedy skill, did this to me and dozens of other comics in Philadelphia at the Laff House including Kevin Hart, TuRae, and Michael Blackson

yeah, not cool at all. Really neccesary to humiliate him in front of all people. Why not let him do his set and then talk to him afterwards. He's just trying to put him down
abvmoose87 1 year ago 3
He's not a douche. He's trying to help the new comedian out. It may seem harsh, but it's better he learns by interruption than an audience not reacting or even booing him.
Arikothal 2 years ago
@Arikothal Better he learns by interruption? Really? Because any advice Gallagher might be willing to offer ("hey buddy, if people don't laugh, you should smash some fruit") couldn't wait until the guy was done with his set? It's not better to interrupt someone. It's douchier, though.
