It was in the related videos for Tom Waits - Clap Hands. I hadn't heard the song. It's like I avoid all new music man, I'm not that closed mind, I just wanted to check it out and it turned out to be shit.
IF Beck is "shit", why the hell are you commenting on a Beck video? Don't you have "better" things to be watching? Or do you just like opposing everyone else who enjoys it? Ass...

Unfortunately I have quite an open mind so I tend to listen to lots of different music. Came here from the Tom Waits Clap hands video and thought I'd just check this song out, and it reminded me how shit beck is and I though you all should know.
@OFFSPRING891 I agree. This is like watching an early rehearsal for the SNL performance that followed. The whole idea is just so cool and so Beck you gotta love it.
We're just TRYING to soak in all the cool tunes here without your annoying UNSOLICITED provacation.Kindly take your misinformation and atrophied braincells elsewhere please. I'm genuinely NOT INTERESTED in any form of discourse with clueless dipshits who flog their ignorance in public.I've worked in alternative, mainstream, print and broadcast media long before you were in diapers,so please go have your cyberfights elsewhere, muchas gracias guero.A woman's work is never done FFS!
He's bursting at the seams with da funk, with only a 5 dollar guitar and the table setting for accompanyment!! The guy's creative ingenuity is off the map...If someone could please re-post The Saturday Night Live version, it was outrageous...THIS is an artist who gets virtually NO commercial radio or television broadcast whatsoever.Programming criteria is the predictable domain of market driven corporate imperatives.Only proven formulaic product gets mainstream exposure...sad but true.
huh? Im sorry, but in the 90's you couldnt escape Beck's music. it was all over MTV, radio, magazines. he's a multi-platinum artist, yet you make him sound like he's underground or something. get over it.
You obviously know squat about Beck's career so listen up kid.He catapulted out of OBSCURITY with Loser(Mellow Gold)which despite attention was a commercial FLOP,that was 14 years AGO!He's a rare artist who signed with a label to the LOWEST bidder in order to maintain COMPLETE artistic freedom, and release INDIE material simultaneously anytime he pleased. His album One Foot In The Grave(and others..)released during the American underground INDIE explosion on INDIE label K Records. Now please STFU.
YO Einstein do you even understand the difference between indie, underground and label distribution in the music industry?Judging by your dumb comment you don't have a clue.Beck never stopped recording independent records only played on alternative underground stations.A couple of vid plays on a music channel a decade ago doesn't designate a platinum artist.Beck is known as one of the most idiosyncratic musicians in the business(look it up!)Better hurry back to your Jonas Bros and Backstreet Boys
No, you're the one who needs to be educated. Beck was under Interscope and BGC distribution, not entirely indie labels. and having your song on daily loop on MTV doesnt make you platinum artist. Record sales dictate that. As unique as Beck is, you can't deny the he is popular, hence a POP artist. Ive been listening to Beck since 93. Where were you kids that year? If you want idiosyncratic, listen to Mr. Bungle, Aphex Twin or John Cage
Glad to see someone still has some talent. Too bad the radio stations in the US wont hardly play him. They are too busy playing that pre-teen girl shit.
The SNL performance was on here once because I saved it to my favorites, but it has since been taken down. I'm sure copyrights and a whole bunch of other legality played into that decision.
You seriously think that somebody that good just happens to "mess up" at 1:11 and 2:10 with two notes that are in harmony? They're the same note he hit in the same place at other verses, but just an octave below and above. No coincidence!
your an idiot... i wouldn't have even noticed if you didn't post this. 1:11 he fucked up. it's a dead note. 2:10 it's possible he went an octave lowere. yes even "beck" can mess up. it doesn't matter. and it doesn't take away from how much ass this video kicks. I don't think that these kind of performances should be perfect. perfection looses some of the spontaneous quality. beck is not perfect, and thats a good thing.
I like the performance just as it is, it's perfect just like that for me! What I said wasn't like a critique, I know nothing about playing a guitar, so I only noticed that note and thought Beck's reaction quite funny. I didn't mean for it to sound like a bad thing... cause I love Beck's music and respect him so much :)
Oh, and also, a2r1v1i2s I totally agree with you, except I wouldn't call anyone an idiot for such a small thing :P pollutiongirl, thank you for uploading this. You have a lot of great videos.
It's pretty hard to perfectly play a song live... It's pretty nerve wracking... But all in all, Beck is the most outstanding musician. Thanks for the upload :)
Yea, I watched other versions of the song and noticed that trend. It's much different than the recorded album version. Whatever, it's his song, just threw me off a bit.
