@fonzi0was0cool actually this movie WAS a blockbuster by industry standards, it was the first Rajni (And Tamil for that fact) movie to be dubbed into Japanese and it did see unprecedented succes.

As for why the Japanese like this song, I can't explain that to you (unless you will accept sheer awesomeness?) . Probably along the same reason why every Sunday a larger section of kids dress up like cartoon characters and hang out by a train station (Harajuku Station), they do weird shit.
