If your house is on a privately owned street, or a long drive and the photo is taken from private land, then you will be able to request it be taken down. the street I live on is technically private land. traffic wardens aren't allowed to issue a ticket if a car is parked in the middle of the road. for this reason, Google street view hasn't got images of my street.
@mdecourcywheeler I think you should try walking down a residential street and photographing people's houses from different angles and see what happens. I mean EVERY house on the street. Give it a go. There was also an issue about the Google cars scanning wi-fi. Also, the elevated camera revealed more about people's property than the average pedestrian would see. Though not an American this really pisses me off. I'm studying to be a journalist, and some of the subjects that I'm studying along side that are anthropology and sociology where we focus a lot on our rights, specifically on freedom of speech and access to information. For those who commented that they live in Australia you may be interested in knowing that Australia is one of the 37 countries that has been negotiating the development of a draft pact since June of 2008. On October 1st the 37 countries reached a basic agreement on ACTA. It has however not come into action as of yet in AUS. The oversimplified explination actually takes SOPA out of context. First the legal definintion of counterfitting is the copying of an original and passing it off as authentic. Sending a video of a birthday party with copywrited music is not necessarily a violation of copywright laws. If you post thousands of videos with copywrited music in the background you likely have. Sharing a fried chicken recipe with your wife is not while opening up a chicken joint based upon that recipe might.

For those who commented that they live in Australia you may be interested in knowing that Australia is one of the 37 countries that has been negotiating the development of a draft pact since June of 2008. On October 1st the 37 countries reached a basic agreement on ACTA. It has however not come into action as of yet in AUS. In late June a spokesperson from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said that the government had no intention of allowing negotiation to trigger new domestic laws.
