@standupgun do not believe the lies on that. The majority of tribes were peaceful; and lived simple lives. Yes, there were raids between the tribes (often introducing new female blood); but usually a peaceful solution was found.

That's right there is no ultimate answer. A Utopian society cannot be achieved but I will dare say that we can come up with something a hell of a lot better than what we have. We cannot expect widespread altruistic policies or behaviors in a society based on a profit motive. The drive for profit has carried us a long way but it is simply outdated. There is nothing inherently totalitarian about socialism, certainly nothing more totalitarian than capitalism. In the presence of a government, both are tools for oppression. However, in the absence of a state, socialism is probably way more useful than capitalism.
When you have a socialist system, you need a governing agency to steal to wealth from individuals, without that all powerful agency it just doesn't work. At least with a free market individuals are free to spend their wealth as they see fit, and if you take away things like the federal income tax, then you also make it impossible for a government to spend money on reckless wars, with the taxpayer funding it.
That's exactly as ridiculous as the anarcho-communists who claim that property equals theft and therefor could not exist in Anarchy. It's a hard-liner position, which would likely be incompatible with a real world Anarchy.

@standupgun do not believe the lies on that. The majority of tribes were peaceful; and lived simple lives. Yes, there were raids between the tribes (often introducing new female blood); but usually a peaceful solution was found.
Do not believe the movies designed to show how 'heathen' the tribes were. It was mainly when greed was permitted (usually at the hand of medicinemen) that wars started. For the majority of the time there was no war.

However I suspect they'll drop this limit too. the 10 minute limit was originally to prevent people uploading TV shows; but as their technology to detect 'known' videos has improved they are considering dropping limits altogether (as they can block copyright TV shows easier)

I agree. These followers of the Mises institute seem to feel a need to create value. I listened to the latest V-Radio episode and it had Stefan Molyneaux. He had a lot of invalid party line arguments for the free market. He did bring up one semi-valid point which had to do with evaluating human needs and or wants but it is perverted with the need to create profit. Those that follow that line of thinking don't seem to realize how that need for profit will eventually lead to aberrant behaviors.

I have continually seen opponents of a RBE bring up the calculation debate. I generally know what this states but I feel like I am not yet knowledgeable enough to offer a complete and credible counter to the claims. Does anyone know of any good books or other sources where I could get more info on the calculation debate?

I am a big fan of a resource based economy. I am usually a little hesitant to come right out and start speaking about a RBE because the trolls love to jump on top of it and say all kinds of bullshit. I usually try to bring up some of the ideas and gauge peoples' reactions before talking to them directly about a RBE. It seems to be a very plausible solution though I plan to do more research about other socialist type systems to see the likenesses and what possible problems could arise from the R

The Venus project is an example of a possible solution...
The idea is that the complete system change is needed...this system needs to meet the needs of the people...ideas would be submitted then selected and developed upon, tested, and subjected to trials. We have to start somewhere and as of this time I have not seen anyone present any other complete systems that appear to service everyones needs. If more systems were created to compete against this system that would make things even better

That's right there is no ultimate answer. A Utopian society cannot be achieved but I will dare say that we can come up with something a hell of a lot better than what we have. We cannot expect widespread altruistic policies or behaviors in a society based on a profit motive. The drive for profit has carried us a long way but it is simply outdated. The current system will break down; no question about it. We must ask ourselves what will replace it.

Possibly one of the most important documentaries to watch, the Yankee propaganda machine and "the free market" or capitalism is responsible for more deaths than any propaganda before and after it and any ideology before and after it. Our founding fathers might have been slave owners but they weren't exactly capitalists although capitalism was a necessary step towards freeing mankind it is not going to be the last ideology of our time, in fact America is living in a corporatacracy.

Maybe instead of establishing a socialist government (see totalitarianism) we could reduce governments power so much that it ceases to be a club with which the wealthy use to beat the poor. Whenever attempts are made to attack the capitalist free market...you create poorer societies, this is because a government is terrible at understanding the rule of supply and demand.

There is nothing inherently totalitarian about socialism, certainly nothing more totalitarian than capitalism. In the presence of a government, both are tools for oppression. However, in the absence of a state, socialism is probably way more useful than capitalism.

When you have a socialist system, you need a governing agency to steal to wealth from individuals, without that all powerful agency it just doesn't work. At least with a free market individuals are free to spend their wealth as they see fit, and if you take away things like the federal income tax, then you also make it impossible for a government to spend money on reckless wars, with the taxpayer funding it.

@Jcolinsol I don't really see the comparison to what I said with Anarchist/capitalist's theory. If property equals theft, then who is the person stolen from? All I said is that any form of wealth redistribution is a theft of property from one to be given to another. To coordinate this theft you need a government agency with guns/power at their disposal. In a REAL free market...(not what we have now), no one could force anyone, you don't like it...you don't buy it. Which is freedom encouraging.

You are only drawing the comparison more strongly! You define "socialism" too narrowly, just as some anarcho-communists define Anarchy too narrowly and end up excluding anarcho-capitalists.
In a functional Anarchy socialists and Capitalists have to coexist. If the socialist wants to voluntarily re-distribute his wealth collectively, that's great! If the capitalist wants to sell her time to a rich man, go for it.

Ahh, now if you are talking "voluntary" socialist tendencies then I hear and support you, but socialism by its definition is a little different then voluntary sharing of resources...and if you are talking about voluntary re-distribution of wealth...well, that happens all the time in a capitalist setup. It's what charities are all about. Basically its when the word "voluntary" is replaced with "mandatory" that I get a little concerned. :)
