When I listen to this video, and I do quite often, I don't think I have ever heard a more powerful musette tuning. Would this be described as a French musette tuning ?
Hi Donalrondo, No I don't think this accordion would be considered a French musette tuned accordion but it does have a great musette sound for many different kinds of music and it's not to wet where it sounds off key when I play with the other instruments in my band. Henry
Thanks for the comment Donalrondo. Yes,this is a beautiful melody. Like in so many Russian pieces,it brings out a touch of sadness shrouded with a wonderful melody very reminisce,I suppose,of what the Russian people have endured throughout history. I really appreciate the fact that you saw some expression in my playing of the song. I favour playing more from the heart then the head. Henry
Please, excuse me, I think I confused this waltz with the one in my former commentary, but there is reason for it, if you compare them. The work by Dmitri Shostakovich (which is the one André Rieu plays) is very close to the one I misstook. A very nice version of this is played by a girl in YouTube (as the others recommended) ´Vilma plays Accordion Valz no. 2, Dimitrij Sjostakovitj'
Nice performance but .... I think you would enjoy more playing and sharing your art if you hear more than André Rieu's version. I recommend you to look for 'Mantshuurian kukkuloilla', and 'Soviet songs by Dmitri Hvorostovskji' (vocal version), much better versions of this beautiful waltz composed after the Russian - Japanese war a century ago.
Thanks for the comment Fernando. Yes,I always thought this song I play ,Waltz no. 2,is similar to Mantshuurian kukkuoilla (also known as Waltzin to Mongolia) . I do play both songs. I did learn Waltz no. 2 from an Andre Rieu performance. Henry
Beautiful version, I love it
