Really good tutorial... For some reason once I'm done filling the selection and all that, the edges look really jagged, and they're kind of discolored (almost greenish). What is this?

btw, Inkscape saves files in the SVG file format.

Yeah SVG is kinda the open, industry standard, but some programs use proprietary formats (such as photoshop) that Gimp can't read.

1. Open the bmp file in the Gimp

2. Click File -> Save As...

3. Re-save the file as a JPEG.

This was great, you're right at my newbie level. I followed along with you, but my finished image has noticeably rough edges (badly antialiased?). I can't seem to affect the selection tool by setting "feathered edges" before using "path to selection" and I haven't figured anything out in the "bucket fill" options to help either.
