I'm posting a video response here because this part had me so mislead before I bought the game that I wouldn't even try it. Did yesterday, first try ever got the star, never once strayed out of 1st. Posted in my LP and only went out of first for a split second after which Big Boo ate my dust. it was easy to put it lightly.

Heres a hint to whom ever may be struggling with this. luckily, you have an advantage in this course. Run the course without racing boo before you agree to race and destroy all possibly obstacles in your way.Using your star bits, blast away the rocks towards the end of the course and anywhere thoughout.
