It seems that Greg Brown wrote this wonderful song fairly recently and I did not recall it from my childhood. Nevertheless, Brown did such a masterful job of capturing the depression era, it could have easily been written during those years.
I don't think I have heard this song since my childhood some fifty years ago. These talented "good old boys" brought tears to my eyes. My brother and I stayed in a bed and breakfast in Meridian, Mississippi, home of the Jimmy Rogers museum, but didn't have time to stop in---it's on my "bucket list" of things to do. Jimmy and his music are the heart and spirit of America!
Now this is the America I know and love!!! This is a great tradition and heritage. Just a few ol boys having a great time! Wish I could have been there.....thanks so much..keep hope alive!
reminds me of when i was a boy. on sundays granddaddy and his brothers would break out the guitars and banjos and the playing would go for a while. the corn liquor would be available for the adults and maybe i would get a sip to.
Let me revise that! It's the song his friends think he sings well, and they like him to sing it often, because it is a great song. Thanks for the comment, my grammer may need a little touch up, and thank you Greg Brown for that great song!
He aint Pat Enwright -but not bad!

Do I hear a banjo clunker there in the beginning? Rest of the song sounds great.

What do you mean, "his" best song? how about giving credit to the writer of the song, the great Greg Brown?
