I've been recently investigating about automatons and kinetic sculpture and i felt absolutely captivated by your work. It's so sensitive, deep and intellectual. I had to present my investigation in class and when i talked about you, everyone was amazed too.
I'm trying to build some stage equipment using a similar mechanism, but how do you translate the movement from the spiral arm to an alternating up down movement for the feathers. does the whole thing run from a single rotor or are there more than one movement sources?
I never thought a video involving a violin, feather, and machinery could feel naughty, but I was almost inclined to check over my shoulder to see if anyone could observe what I was watching! As usual, you somehow manage to make the cold world of newtonian mechanics warm and expressive. Cheers for that mate.
There is very little stress on either feathers and they should last for quite some time. (At this moment the machine is caressing 24/7 in the window of the MIT Museum in Cambridge, MA...)
I saw (for the first time) some of your fascinating opuscules in the Ars Electronica Center this summer in Linz, I was immediately smitten, they are so delicate and sensuous and comic, beautiful
this is a total masterpiece; the tenderness and the humor are incredible. plus there's the uncanny sounds of gears, sighs, and music. awesome.

oooooh, you can almost feel them feathers. Just one question though: is that lucious sighing part of the machine or from an admiring viewer?

Wow, very sensual! Never would have thought a machine and a violin could inspire such... stirrings...! :D

Nice piece. How long do you estimate the feather will last? I would think it might go a few weeks at best before becoming a nub?
Of course if it doesn't run 24/7, it will last longer.
