Even Zenyatta's critics acknowledge what she did on the track that day was one of the greatest performances ever!

@partycow2 nahhhhhh secretariat is the super horse. and the bestest horse ever dont get me wrong she is an amazing horse but secretariat is the worlds best race horse :)
@partycow2 every horse has their own place in racing history secretariat- for having his that big heart and leaving the other horses by 32 lenghts ruffian- for being the number one filly in the country and also the number one 2 year old with a record of 10-0 or 11-0 seabiscuit- being a small horse and beating them especally in the match race with war admiral and zenyatta- for being the biggest horse out there starts in the back rounds up to the front and has no trouble doing it!
@johnofohu123 im not taking sides im telling people how they fit their place in racehorse history every horse is different so what if ruffian and zenyatta are the same size in zenyatta's races she was the biggest you really need to read better at how things mean
@Playboyy1985 She had a very big chance with the big boys - ONE more stride and she would have beat Blame. She was stuck in traffic and had to get out from the back of the pack. She can be mentioned as one of the greats - she proved it. Saying "no chance" is to miss what happened in the race completely.
@Playboyy1985 Not true at all. Secretariat lost races to horses that had far inferior records to Zenyatta. So does that lower Secretariat's accomplishments? No. And for the *one* race Zenyatta lost by one stride is less of a loss than even what Secretariat has. My point being, one loss by a nose when she was still closing proves that she is one of the best and can be mentioned among the greats. Your reasoning is flawed.
@Dingerz I agree! One more stride and it would have been all Zenyatta!! She is still one of the best horses(male or female) of all time! I dont think there is a male that has won that many in a row!!
@shogungundam04 Hush? I said earlier even Secretariat lost - most of the greatest ones have,,hence my point that her nose loss to Blame when she would have beat him in one more stride is NOT proof that she is not one of the greatest. No one here is arguing she is better than Secretariat but she does indeed belong in a group of the best. She showed more heart and guts than most on Saturday and I do believe if she ran against the same field, she could beat them all.
@Dingerz I would have to agree very much with that comment, I think also another reason for her slim loss is that she wasn't quite prepared enough. I belive the triner shouldn't have thrown her into a distance she hasn't raced yet AND she was only racing with the females. The great Zenyatta was up against some very tough competion and she showed great heart and tenacity that fateful day. Every great racehorse loses, It proves that they had the guts to race even against the best of best
@Dingerz Secretariat started racing as a two year old.....Zenyatta was close to 4 which is the prime of a race horse........so of course he's going to have more losses .....And Zenyatta was competing against females most of the time....It's one thing to race the males once a year.....it's a lot harder to have to race against top competition 5-6 times a year which is what secretariat did
And Secretariat still owns 2 of the three triple crown Track records... imagine that
@Playboyy1985 Well who knows because they were from YEARS ago.Gee now we have to go back in time to prove something? America is the only country still stuck in this gender war. It's time to let go of this gender war cause Europeans laugh at us for it.
@johnofohu123 As good as Ruffian was, Zenyatta was better. Not only did Zenyatta face stiffer competition, beat males and females, and rack up more G1 wins than Ruffian, but she retired sound and was not bred like a train wreck.. Ruffian was a ticking time bomb, it's a wonder she even made it to her 11th start before critically injuring herself.
@Syncraftable Zenyatta was nothing she couldn't beat records she didn't win her maidens by 15 lengths and ruffian died in her last race and ruffian was never whipped and ruffian was just the best and she would smoke zenyatta you should read more before trying to say zenyatta is the best when she is nothing but a donkey american horse ruffian is the queen then comes landaluce so get some real facts dumb shit !
All you Zenyatta fans that say she's equal to or greater than Secretariat are really smokin something. Zenyatta could have the greatest kick of her life and STILL be eating the dust of Sec. Simply stated, Zenyatta never was, never is, and never will be in the same league as the mighty Secretariat. You all are insane. Either you've never watched Sec or you're in complet denial of the superiority of Big Red...case closed:)
@massivebl00d I can appreciate that. However, to compare Zen to Sec is just rediculous. You can ardently believe and appreciate Zen, but let's not get carried away and make outlandish statements
Zenyatta only ADDS to the rich history of the sport, in my opinion. Her legacy will stand alongside the greatest mares to ever race whether she wins the Breeder's Cup or not! Those who love Rachel Alexandra and Ruffian should in no way feel threatened or turned off by Zenyatta's success. It only proves that greatness isn't gender exclusive!
@RAV52 god bless you you mention Ruffian - and your words are very touching and absolutly true! Thank you very much! I do not know too much about horses, but I love Alydar, Ruffian, Go for Wand, aso
Zenyatta represents FUN to alot of people. I don't know why her critics take everything so personal or seriously like she is threatening some childhood hero's legacy. There are alot of horses that all look the same or have boring personalities. She is unique and her appeal goes beyond her racing career. Just believe in something with a positive attitude, and those dreams can come true. That's Zen. Relax and have fun with her along the way.
Just thinking about it... Mine That Bird won the Derby. He didn't get his stretch run last year in the classic. Mine That Bird nearly beat Rachel in the Preakness, but couldn't get there, and Summer Bird won the Belmont. She beat Mine That Bird, AND Summer Bird- does that mean that if Zenyatta was a 3yo last year, she would've won the TC?
Wish I could contact her owners.......NOT THAT THEY can claim all of her fame, but they DID MANAGE to surround her talent with awesome trainers and they did manage her schedule......she's ALL THAT, SHE IS INCREDIBLE,whatever they did with her talent, they did very well!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE gives me hope, mostly because of herself, but probably thanks also to those that surround her. She and hers are an inspiration.
I may get to witness her run in the Breeders' Cup this year. It'd be no less and a heavenly blessing to see this mare in person, even from a distance. She's a once of a kind, that's for sure.
I don't think the Moss's intend to ever sell her, The Race organizations are also taking the leading role in ending and not accepting slaughter as a end of life options for their horses. Its not perfect but its building and they are making it clear they are serious. I think she should be able to spend 4-5 years after retiringfrom flat racing and become the greatest or one of the greatest Eventing horses ever as well. Try that one on for size.Biotches are dogs not horses! I know you kidding
her owner should have tried getting her in the kentucky derby
she is really good my fav NEVER lost only won I wonder how she would do in a match race with secretariat if he was still alive and not retired good video
I just LOVE her I wish I had a horse of my own not a racehorse but a horse or pony my fav breed is a Thoroughbreed some racehorses can't even come in 2nd they allways come in 1st I don't know if zenyatta is the only one who hasen't ever come in second only first
her owner should have tried getting her in the kentucky derby
she is really good my fav NEVER lost only won I wonder how she would do in a match race with secretariat if he was still alive and not retired good video
@follmerhorse I think Bill Nack would tell you that Secretariat would have defeated Zenyatta going away. I mean, Zenyatta is the Queen of this era of racing, but let's not get silly and try comparing her to the most impressive Triple Crown Champion of alltimes whose records still stand today. Don't let Zen's undefeated record fool you-- SECRETARIAT is, in the words of Bill Nack, "The Golden Standard of Thouroughbreds"...
"Luckily for females, they don't have 1/10th of the pressure to succeed in the breeding shed." Just a tad of sexism, there. Actually, most broodmares are sent to slaughter when their fertility wanes, of if they don't catch one year. They can drop 15 stakes winning foals, but at the end, off they go to Asian and EU dinner tables. 50,000 US horses are slaughtered in Canada annually.
@TreasureOne Um, can I remind you of something? We're talking about ZENYATTA here. I think for you to go on saying she might be slaughtered is a bit daft. This is ZENYATTA - undefeated champion who might become the only racehore in history to win three Breeders Cup races in a lifetime? Yeah..that one.
@Dingerz Zenyattas best race is a mile 1/4....Her Jockey has won more Kentucky Derbys than any other jockey in the field for this years BCC at CH.I think Zenyattas going to shock ALOT of Non-Believers.Mike Smith has a website ...listen to the Talkin Horses interview. Its the best interview I've ever heard him do when talking about Holy Bull and Zenyatta...Its worth a listen:)
@205seeme "listen to the Talkin Horses interview. Its the best interview I've ever heard him do when talking about Holy Bull and Zenyatta...Its worth a listen:)"
@Dingerz At 3:36 He said there was a race last year where she knocked a male horse 3 paths out...I thought this was the only race where she had raced males?
@Dingerz Like Ferdinand? In 10 - 15 years are you or many other people going to be following where she is or who has her? I doubt myself that that will be her end but the fact is that her wins dont guarentee her a place in retirement anymore then the ones before her who ended up on Japanese tables. LIve for teh moment I say though. shes the greatest horse we have had since Man o War or Secretariet.
@Race62hud Yes, I will be following where and what happens to Zenyatta later in her life. I have been for the other horses I have watched race. What happened to Ferdinand was a huge mistake, and a pure anomaly for a horse who won such big races. But to even suggest that might happen to Zenyatta - an undefeated legend, is to completely misunderstand what she has accomplished and the love her owners have for her. I stand by that.
@TreasureOne, this is the HUGE dichotomy, you have pinpointed.
Exposing beautiful animals to physical risk for our own entertainment.
Imagine that, the elite being treated better than the masses?
The injustice and cruelty is not lost upon me, my friend, but as I expressed, it is a true conundrum, a moral riddle, an ethical puzzle, and I do not claim to know the answers...
@TreasureOne Yes, there have been anomalies. But they are rare. Ferdinand & Exceller were very tough horses and won very important races - but Zenyatta is UNBEATEN. She's a legend and quite the celebrated athlete after cases like Ferdinand were brought to the racing world's attention. Ferdinand died in the hands of the Japanese because at stud he wasn't anything spectacular. Luckily for females, they don't have 1/10th of the pressure to succeed in the breeding shed.
@TreasureOne It is Illegal in America to send horses to slaughter. The sport has been actively persuing any tips of trainers/owners sending horses to slaughter and have succesfully taken away licenses of anyone associated with such awful treatment of the horses. However, there will always be bad people out there who view a horse as an unfeeling object- and they will continue to make the sport look bad. Zen's owners paid bills and waited for her to be ready- no way she ends up in a bad situation.
@ArchDandy1134 Unfortunately, it is NOT illegal. It is illegal to slaughter a horse for profit IN the US. It is perfectly legal to ship. You have meat auctions and feedlots in abundance. Refer to WBKO TV's Facebook site (Kentucky). They are doing a series on all the KY TBs being shipped to Canada. Only a couple of state racing associations are penalizing owners for slaughtering. I'm Canadian. Over 50,000 horses a year are shipped here from the US. Support H.R. 503/S.727 to make it stop.
@Ciklide um.....no, no comp for secretariat...the only thing zen would be doing in a race vs secretariat, besides eating his dust, would be to dance for sec as he basks in the victory:)
which is not to deny that Queen Z has a unique and HUGE personality, obviously she is a VERY special animal.
But the whole need to be a self-absorbed "look-at-me" showboat, that is an ENTIRELY human trait. I refuse to believe that Zenny is deliberately drawing attention to herself.
She is just being who she is, take her or leave her. She does not have a PR agent. Very few human beings, in the whirlwind of fame and stardom, are capable of that kind of humility.
wait wait wait did this video just end before she ran the race?????? The lead up was alright (could have been better for such a great horse) but PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GIVE ME THE RACE
Going wide on the final turn is NOT a bad thing. She doesn't have to corner that way, and is ensured a clear run through the lane. It's called the ARMCHAIR TRIP and it's very favorable. It's FIRST turn ground loss that hurts, and she always takes back to the rail. Also most horses are an average of 2-3 wide anyway.
Can you imagine what it must feel like to be Mike Smith in the Last 300 yards when Hes on Her back..? With both horses in top form...I bet Mike would sit 8 lengths back behind Rachel and win if the race was a mile 1/4. Lets hope she wins the BCC this year too...Love You Zen!!!
I'm so glad there was all this pomp over the race. CAN SHE DO IT? love it all- makes watching later even more fun- its like a movie with a wonderful ending!
That second piece by William Nack that starts at 7:12 gave me chills because we all know the outcome of the race. ^_^ Favorite racing mare ever, and one of my two favorites of all time. The other is Afleet Alex.
Absolutely amazing filly, she has already more than ebeded her place in the history books. She has rightfully been placed next to such famous fillies as Ruffian. The spirit she holds will never fade.
Oh... why can't the guy keep it straight on the horse and stay away fm sexual innuendo, as a horse's behavior as a champion, "pawing at the ground" as the wonderful Bill Nack says. Always have to revert to human male thought about sex fm the male mind. What a regal creature. My God.
I don't think those are 'dance' moves; I think they are emotional moves. She's got a reputation for being very dominant and liking to make contact with other horses. The front leg stuff is striking out, which is a classic mare thing. I can't say that it is an aggressive behavior, in the sense of trying to do damage, or not.
@Iriye Her humans say that she does it in response to people being around, and that it evolved in the context of being in front of increasingly appreciative crowds. She likes attention, and knows how to get it. :D Her riders, both jockey and exercise rider, say that it also serves to burn off pre-race tension in a positive way. Doesn't seem to be done in response to other animals, or an act related to aggression.
@Iriye, of course they are not "dance moves", just the media's insatiable need to anthropomorphize even the slightest tic of any creature in the spotlight. Listen first to the announcer's comment at :20 - :37, he sees it correctly, the horse appears hinky, out-of-control, a veteran horse-trainer would recognize that immediately. But then, listen to the nonsense from 1:22 to 2:03 , where they basically attempt to sexualize the horse. Creepy and disturbing, really. Cheers! FrankC32
This is a fantastic video; love the concentration on her dance moves. Putting all that footage together was a great idea. Two weeks ago I saw the Lipizzaners perform and some of her steps remind me of what they did. She's definitely got rhythm. Does anybody think she'll be in the 2010 Breeder's Cup?
One of the best of all-time....Her poor position on the last turn and to just blow by them all to win yet again. A great race and a legend of a horse. Love you girl!!!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
American trash!
Pennsylvania racing authorities have ousted the top-earning owner in the sport from one of their tracks amid a series of horse breakdowns and a boycott by jockeys worried about safety.
Owner Michael Gill, who won 370 races last year and earned US$6.7 million, and his lead trainer were ejected from Penn National Race Course after most of the competing jockeys refused to ride against his mounts.
"What's gone on here is just dirty business and dirty politics," Gill said.

Dingerz 1 year ago 17
@Dingerz again....she couldn't beat Blame who is def not an all time great
so there is no way she's even in top 5
Best Femal horse though
Playboyy1985 1 year ago
@Playboyy1985 Not true at all. Secretariat lost races to horses that had far inferior records to Zenyatta. So does that lower Secretariat's accomplishments? No. And for the *one* race Zenyatta lost by one stride is less of a loss than even what Secretariat has. My point being, one loss by a nose when she was still closing proves that she is one of the best and can be mentioned among the greats. Your reasoning is flawed.
Dingerz 1 year ago 3
@Dingerz I agree! One more stride and it would have been all Zenyatta!! She is still one of the best horses(male or female) of all time! I dont think there is a male that has won that many in a row!!
dcupp22 1 year ago 2
@Dingerz even the great secretariat lost so hush dingerz
shogungundam04 1 year ago
@shogungundam04 Hush? I said earlier even Secretariat lost - most of the greatest ones have,,hence my point that her nose loss to Blame when she would have beat him in one more stride is NOT proof that she is not one of the greatest. No one here is arguing she is better than Secretariat but she does indeed belong in a group of the best. She showed more heart and guts than most on Saturday and I do believe if she ran against the same field, she could beat them all.
Dingerz 1 year ago 4
@Dingerz Well put!!
AnimalsRock4Love 1 year ago
@Dingerz I would have to agree very much with that comment, I think also another reason for her slim loss is that she wasn't quite prepared enough. I belive the triner shouldn't have thrown her into a distance she hasn't raced yet AND she was only racing with the females. The great Zenyatta was up against some very tough competion and she showed great heart and tenacity that fateful day. Every great racehorse loses, It proves that they had the guts to race even against the best of best
BushwoodStables 1 month ago
@Dingerz Secretariat started racing as a two year old.....Zenyatta was close to 4 which is the prime of a race horse........so of course he's going to have more losses .....And Zenyatta was competing against females most of the time....It's one thing to race the males once a year.....it's a lot harder to have to race against top competition 5-6 times a year which is what secretariat did
And Secretariat still owns 2 of the three triple crown Track records... imagine that

@Playboyy1985 Try best you mean good mare shes nothing compared to Landaluce and queen Ruffian.
johnofohu123 2 months ago
@johnofohu123 As good as Ruffian was, Zenyatta was better. Not only did Zenyatta face stiffer competition, beat males and females, and rack up more G1 wins than Ruffian, but she retired sound and was not bred like a train wreck.. Ruffian was a ticking time bomb, it's a wonder she even made it to her 11th start before critically injuring herself.
Syncraftable 1 month ago

Mine That Bird nearly beat Rachel in the Preakness, but couldn't get there, and Summer Bird won the Belmont. She beat Mine That Bird, AND Summer Bird- does that mean that if Zenyatta was a 3yo last year, she would've won the TC?

I don't think the Moss's intend to ever sell her, The Race organizations are also taking the leading role in ending and not accepting slaughter as a end of life options for their horses. Its not perfect but its building and they are making it clear they are serious.
TreasureOne 1 year ago
@TreasureOne Um, can I remind you of something? We're talking about ZENYATTA here. I think for you to go on saying she might be slaughtered is a bit daft. This is ZENYATTA - undefeated champion who might become the only racehore in history to win three Breeders Cup races in a lifetime? Yeah..that one.

Race62hud 1 year ago
@Race62hud Yes, I will be following where and what happens to Zenyatta later in her life. I have been for the other horses I have watched race. What happened to Ferdinand was a huge mistake, and a pure anomaly for a horse who won such big races. But to even suggest that might happen to Zenyatta - an undefeated legend, is to completely misunderstand what she has accomplished and the love her owners have for her. I stand by that.
Dingerz 1 year ago
@TreasureOne, this is the HUGE dichotomy, you have pinpointed.
Exposing beautiful animals to physical risk for our own entertainment.
Imagine that, the elite being treated better than the masses?
The injustice and cruelty is not lost upon me, my friend, but as I expressed, it is a true conundrum, a moral riddle, an ethical puzzle, and I do not claim to know the answers...
Cheers!

frankc32 1 year ago
Ferdinand and Exceller did. As do over 50% of TBs.
TreasureOne 1 year ago
@TreasureOne Yes, there have been anomalies. But they are rare. Ferdinand & Exceller were very tough horses and won very important races - but Zenyatta is UNBEATEN. She's a legend and quite the celebrated athlete after cases like Ferdinand were brought to the racing world's attention. Ferdinand died in the hands of the Japanese because at stud he wasn't anything spectacular. Luckily for females, they don't have 1/10th of the pressure to succeed in the breeding shed.
Dingerz 1 year ago
Dear Jesus and all the saints, don't allow this noble mare to go to slaughter, when she can no longer run like this.
TreasureOne 1 year ago
@TreasureOne I'm DAMN sure she'll never end up in that position. About 150% sure. :)
Dingerz 1 year ago
@TreasureOne It is Illegal in America to send horses to slaughter. The sport has been actively persuing any tips of trainers/owners sending horses to slaughter and have succesfully taken away licenses of anyone associated with such awful treatment of the horses. However, there will always be bad people out there who view a horse as an unfeeling object- and they will continue to make the sport look bad. Zen's owners paid bills and waited for her to be ready- no way she ends up in a bad situation.
ArchDandy1134 1 year ago
@ArchDandy1134 Unfortunately, it is NOT illegal. It is illegal to slaughter a horse for profit IN the US. It is perfectly legal to ship. You have meat auctions and feedlots in abundance. Refer to WBKO TV's Facebook site (Kentucky). They are doing a series on all the KY TBs being shipped to Canada. Only a couple of state racing associations are penalizing owners for slaughtering. I'm Canadian. Over 50,000 horses a year are shipped here from the US. Support H.R. 503/S.727 to make it stop.
TreasureOne 1 year ago
Hell I think she could beat Ruffian. (Some people might scream when I say this, since she's dead, but still.)

Going wide on the final turn is NOT a bad thing. She doesn't have to corner that way, and is ensured a clear run through the lane. It's called the ARMCHAIR TRIP and it's very favorable. It's FIRST turn ground loss that hurts, and she always takes back to the rail. Also most horses are an average of 2-3 wide anyway.

bon1042 1 year ago
I don't think those are 'dance' moves; I think they are emotional moves. She's got a reputation for being very dominant and liking to make contact with other horses. The front leg stuff is striking out, which is a classic mare thing. I can't say that it is an aggressive behavior, in the sense of trying to do damage, or not.
Iriye 1 year ago
@Iriye Her humans say that she does it in response to people being around, and that it evolved in the context of being in front of increasingly appreciative crowds. She likes attention, and knows how to get it. :D Her riders, both jockey and exercise rider, say that it also serves to burn off pre-race tension in a positive way. Doesn't seem to be done in response to other animals, or an act related to aggression.
Venckman 1 year ago
@Iriye, of course they are not "dance moves", just the media's insatiable need to anthropomorphize even the slightest tic of any creature in the spotlight. Listen first to the announcer's comment at :20 - :37, he sees it correctly, the horse appears hinky, out-of-control, a veteran horse-trainer would recognize that immediately. But then, listen to the nonsense from 1:22 to 2:03 , where they basically attempt to sexualize the horse. Creepy and disturbing, really. Cheers! FrankC32
