@warwolfii you lucky bastard l.o.l..ive listened to bill for nearly 60yrs i would have loved to have met him.i did get close once when i was playing in london ah well.you are a good judge if all the things you are is your fav.one of mine too.bill had everything and some.one of THE great musicians of our time.many thanks.
Bill was, and still is, my favorite musician. Occasionally I would catch him alone at the Village Vanguard and we'd chat for a few minutes. He was very shy, very introverted. He had very little confidence and was not aware just how extraordinary he really was. He'd always play my favorite piece "All the Things You Are." He was an amazing talent, a true artist, gifted beyond measure.
Billfreaks, you are invited to a beautiful Bill Evans master class on YT! The class includes an in-depth analysis of Bill's classic solo performance "A Time for Love". You will LOVE this, promise:) Type in "Dave Frank" Bill Evans on YT.
@rxj9000 I must be hanging out in the wrong elevators then. Bill Evans was arguably the greatest jazz artist. One can argue that certainly.... so let's say he was one of the greats.
@rxj9000 ya thats what good music is reduced to while other people earn money with mass productions. Brave New World. However there are alot of people that still value "elevator music" and that is a good thing.
Btw. its christmas soon, you ll hear that music in shopping malls day in day out :-)
Repeating gossip is part of the problem and all this goodie two shoes stuff is just a facade , a Youtube facade . Listen to the music as that is the essence of the piano style , the empathy ,and interplay that was Bill Evans forte and legacy. Save the other soap box for what you might say in front of your mother .Jazz is and has been for adults, consenting adults who appreciate the art not the incidental periphery .It isn't a contest , a race to the end ,or a moral code. It is a painting in time.
As pointed out before, Bill plays with Eddie Gomez (b) and Alex Riel (dr). The recording was made on October 28th, 1966, in Oslo just a few weeks after Eddie Gomez joined Bill as his regular bass player.
An art form that requires the highest level of musical knowledge and technique, and at the same time required artistic creativity. It required that you be a true musician.
cada vez que ouço Bill Evans sinto que sua música é redescoberta a cada audição, em função da riqueza de improvisações, de seu perfeito fraseado e acima de tudo de sua imensa emoção que transborda em cada interpretação.
One of my best friends....she has passed now....was Bill's girl friend when he was with Miles. Her name was Peri...he wrote PeriScope for her.I miss her & Bill VERY much!
hey guys there is a npr tape out on bill evans life from his college days up to his final days also a discografy on all the music played on the tape it came out about twenty years ago on pbs stations i have it on tape and it is a classic
I think this is Alex Reil? on drums. I wish people would concentrate less on drugs? The movie "Bird" was 2hrs & 45mins & 2hrs & 43 was about on his drug habit, the rest was credits! As much fuss that J.Lennon or B. Dylan & thier Heroine habit?B.Evans was a GENIUS!He & Wynton Kelly,Sonny Clark,Red Garland,& MANY others were theeee "modern jazz" pianist of their day & R as "modern as tomm."! Please concentrate on these incredible genius' sound & contributions 2 music!
As a jazz pianist myself, Bill influenced my whole approach to jazz studies when I was in Boston. i saw Bill and trio several times with Ediies Gomez and Marty Morell. I also saw him in LA shortly before he passed. These youtube videos are history in action. Keep em comin'
It has to be considered that he was a more imspired pianist because of his drug habit. That said, I'd rather he'd had a little less inspiration and a longer life for us to enjoy his superb talent! Full marks to the poster(s) of this and other clips of him on YouTube for us all to marvel at.
Well yeah, the life someone lives certainly is reflected in their music but what I am trying to say is that I think he would have also been a fantastic player without drugs.Other musicians were...
For sure that is Eddie Gomez on bass. I have an old Bill Evans vinyl record in which Eddie Gomez is the bass player; this looks exactly like him and sounds the same.
@CShell07 damn he played some amazing stuff when he was high! it's a shame so many musicians use drugs to get inspiration because it is always their undoing.

I disagree.
Being emotional as it is, Evan's music is clearly effected by everything that he's through, weather it's drugs, emotional crisis, or anything else.
That's what makes his biography so interesting.
Don't you think?
