What a great little piece of acting between the two. Kirk's one of those guys I see now on TV from time to time and it never fails to make my eyes tear up. I've always loved this song since I got it on the Music of Disney: A Legacy in Song CD set and whenever I play it in my car or wherever my friends just sigh and say... "you're 32 years old dude WTH!" I say you're never to old to feel young.
Just in case you fine people want to hear the German version of this song - back when efforts were being taken to make it sound good in any language... check this out:
watch?v=Nf-XIisyGBY
Not that much of the genuine lyrics left, but they stuck to the essence at their best.
2:47=Alchohol or formaldehyde? Ned Land could be embalming himself. Oh well. At least when he croaks, he'll be viewable all the way though modern times & beyond for future archeologists. lol
Found a movie made in the 30s about a pedophile/serial killer starring Peter Lorre as the bad guy. Good thing I don't understand it because the whole darn thing is in German. But it looks super well-made and he comes across as being really perverted and creeeeepy. It's funny that Walt picked him up hehe
Love the moment where he's standing on the barrel, turns his back on the camera, and shakes his butt. Not because it's THERE... but because Walt LEFT it in there. Bravo Walt for a little sense of humor :)
Little education here....Peter lorre, paul lukas, and james mason are all dead. Kirk douglas hasn't died yet. he's more drunk than mr. lahey from sunnyvale here. does drunkeness make you live longer?
@DrPhilMusic Hahaha... he carries it better than Lahey. And also Kirk is more awesome than those actors combined. Peter Lorre would be more awesome if he were still alive.
I had the 33-1/3 album version of this story when I was a little kid (ca. 1966). Serious imagination required, and supplied. Great sound effects, prof. voice acting, and a compelling story even when massively condensed.
@50zcarsman I totally agree. There is just something about these old classics that is missing from most modern films. I had a lot of the album soundtracks to Disney movies too. I still remember most of the songs.
I was wondering if you knew where i could buy this PROPER version of the song for mp3?... not the one that they are trying to passoff as the movie version

That's not a seal. That's a sea lion. It has earflaps, longer front flippers, and rotating pectoral flippers. Super cute though, I want one.

According to Wikipedia, Kirk Douglas is - 94 years old - the oldest celebrity to use Myspace daily.
I cross my fingers for him to hit 100 years at the very least!
