Here's a revelation - most pop groups of the 70's and 80's were technically better (beit singing or musicianship) because they were trained musicians. They acutally knew what they were doing. And even though, more and more, the producers and labels started taking over "music" in the late '80s and not looking back, there still was a balance between artistry and commercialism prior to the producer/label takeover. Nowadays that balance is almost 100 percent gone. Whereas the artists back two decades ago and earlier knew how to play instruments, compose music and write good lyrics, newer groups today are just pawns. And the masses buy it up.
