  • its amazing the treasures like this people work to preserve. even after wars and natural disasters we can still hear this almost a century later :')

  • Thank you! I needed a dose of a talented musician this morning!

  • Such a brilliant shining star. Great song, Happy & sad all rolled into one. Those were the days.

  • I find 1920's music very interesting :)

  • marvelous - thank you

  • @bluesfoo ...thank you too...welcome. Grtz, Aad

  • People should also know she was such a brave woman standing up to the Nazis.

  • She's just so pretty

  • Just LOVE Josephine!!! It doesn't get much better than this!!!

  • Josephine Baker....all I can say is.... wow....I wish I lived in the 20s.

  • peggy lee sings this much, much better.

  • She has such a sweet voice

  • Love it! And for those of you who insist on comparing looks, look at Pat Cleveland.

  • so cool; to hear a 1927 song :)

  • click 1:14 in she looks like lady gaga

  • @laurynbarbiebell97 LOL people compare them actually.

  • She's beautiful.

  • I really like this! It's so light and breezy!

  • you tube is so amazing when people take the time to upload such a wide variety of music. younger people would never know about this otherwise

  • @Lesley1000 ...that's just one of my motivations...it also was an era that artists live there music more I guess! Grtz, Aad

  • @aadjuijn Yeah, good job for uploading this. That's one thing that I like about youtube. It allows people with similar tastes to connect and network.

  • @Thedarksecret1 Thanks...I'm pleased to see that this kind of "old stars" are appreciated by the newer generations! Grtz, Aad

  • @Lesley1000 Most of what I've learned about music before the 2000's I've learned because I heard it on youtube and that motivated me to read about it.

  • I am so fascinated by the 1920s. Imagine driving north from Central Park on Lennox Avenue and stopping your Oldsmobile to go inside and see this beautiful girl sing! That was during Prohibition, but that wasn't too much of a problem, like in the 80s we always found pot during Reagan's "War on Drugs".....

  • Thank you for sharing this excellent post. Much appreciated.

  • @Corrie121 Thank you Corrie! It's my most viewed video...Grtz, Aad

  • For some reason I'm reminded of Popeye the Sailor Man...

  • She is my most favorite person in history! I love love love this woman!

  • My favorite song by Josephine Baker.

  • Sooo calming voice

  • Josephine breathes more life into this simple song than I thought possible - really elevates it. Love Oscar Peterson's much later piano version. Thanks for the gift.

  • @beiderbecke1927 Thanks for your reaction...Josephine Baker madeher performances with more than 100% convincingness! Grtz, Aad

  • It's a shame that she was patterned after the original Harlem Renaissance Blackbird Florence Mills. There are very few images left of Florence Mills who died in 1924 and you can see that Josephine Baker was heavily influenced by her.

  • this song means what music means :D love

  • EXCELLENT.How it should be sung.with soul.

  • @TheDonnyDude Welcome...thank you too! Grtz, Aad

  • Woww, she was really beautiful. Amazing voice too.

  • HER HAIR STYLES WERE EPIC!!!! SHES AMAZING! 2:26 SHE REALLY FAVORS KERI HILSON...OR SHULD I SAY KERI RESEMBLES HER!

  • HER HAIR STYLES WERE EPIC!!!! SHES AMAZING!

  • Nicki is a rapper...

  • Alicia keys kinda looks like her :O

  • so pretty

  • It's not that I'm offended by all these remarks about her racial ambiguity - it's just the really dumbass things that people write

    pay some damn respect

  • @busessuck1 amen

  • @busessuck1 Well spoken!! Grtz, Aad

  • @busessuck1 WHAT racial ambiguity? Josephine Baker was a black girl from St.Louis..just like Redd Foxx and Nelly...aint no ambiguity about them! Pppl should just face it and stop trying to find a reason why she is so beautiful...jeez!!!!..

  • Thank You!

  • @bodoildi1 Thank you too! Please understand, it's not my intention to insult you...I couldn't allow your video (Solymos Tóni, Bye Bye Blackbird) on this page. With all respect, your version belongs to a total other world...nothing to do with jazz` (more to sing at Fancy Fairs e.g.).

    Kind Regards,

    Aad

  • Bye bye Blackbird! How many times life has to sing it to us for the joy we've given. We'll live as old as the stars... bye bye blackbird!!!

  • Unless there were two Josephine Bakers, she was a spy for france during WWII

msn had it on their new's feature today. There were quite a few female spy's one for the revolution, several for the cival war (Both union and confederate), and so far she's the only one for WWII

  • actually lady gaga could get a tan and play her in a video, perhaps doing the banana dance

  • @stam9998 Um no. A white woman getting a tan (Josephine is much darker than 'tan' by the way) and pretend to be legendary black entertainer in their video sounds ridiculous. Even for Lady Gaga.

  • @stam9998 yeah... umm... probably not a good idea. Esp. since Lady Gaga is kinda fugly. Don't think she could pull it off.

  • @stam9998 Lady gaga could play josephine only in her old age...are you kidding comparing lady gaga to her...Never

  • @stam9998 yea like blackface, the colour face is so in right now

    /sarcasm

  • @stam9998

I think Beyonce got to it first. You know she's always inspired by many musicians from all over the world from past to present.

  • Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful recording, with the verse! It's hard to find anyone singing the verses anymore. (There is another verse, about the bluebird.)

  • @WildeNotesMusic Thank you too! Grtz, Aad

  • Thanks so much for sharing this wonderful recording, with the verses! It's hard to find anyone singing the verses anymore.

  • Interesting to see some of other (new to me) photos of Josephine. A special beauty is there.

  • @goldie0800 Thanks for your kind comment! Grtz, Aad

  • "She" looks like Alicia Keys? Wouldn't that be the other way around. Idiots.

  • @stoleethatsme

I don't think it is grammatically incorrect to say someone looks like someone that was born after the subject of the sentence. Don't know why this has so many thumbs up (unless I'm wrong...)

  • @stoleethatsme

A very fascinating woman! I agree...she does look like Alicia Keys....

  • kinda remind of nicki minaj a lil bit. i see where nicki gets the weirdness from.

  • @Tsexe07 Please...pleases...don't compare this woman to Nicki Minaj. This woman is a legend, who the hell is Nicki Minaj. Don't do that again.

  • @ThePharaoho i know that n im not comparing her 2 her.

  • @Tsexe07 You sound like a downright fool.

  • @stoleethatsme n you sound like a diwnright dicksucker.ndamn im niot sayin anything bad about her. damn

  • @Tsexe07 No one dissed you. They just said (since Alicia Keys was born decades after Josephine Baker died) it'd be Alicia who looks like "another Josephine Baker," not the other way around. : )

  • @WildeNotesMusic i never said anythink about alicia keys

  • @WildeNotesMusic

Alicia Keys was not born "decades" after Josephine Baker died. She was born a little less than six years after Baker died. Keys was born in January 1981 and Baker died in April 1975. .

  • @masanf Thanks for setting the record straight. I didn't realize they nearly overlapped (in terms of time on earth). The point is that Baker preceded Keys by several generations.

  • @Tsexe07 Who the hell is Nicki Minaj? Never heard the name.

  • creepy! at 1:17she looks almost like alicia keys

  • @LavenderScented ...I`d never noticed!...you`re right! Grtz,

    Aad

  • @LavenderScented

That she does. At times, she looked like Trina McGee too.

  • @LavenderScented no alicia looks like her and anyhow I don't see it. But regard less she is amazingly beautiful.

  • @DelightfulSweets we can both agree on that! she is amazing! did you know that she was once called "The Black Venus"?

Venus/Afrodite: Goddess of beauty and love

  • @LavenderScented i can see that. But that voice. That voice is sweet.

  • Thank you !!!

  • @rpmsfpr ...welcome! Grtz, Aad
