Yes that's possible, but they will remain pretty territorial and you would have to clip it's nails and be pretty carefull concerning the headbutts, but in general they are pretty easy to tame. This is forbidden though, since the species is endangered.
We've got to preserve these birds, they're too unique for us to cause their extinction. Also, I wish that zookeeper would NOT stick his finger through the fence, he's just asking for trouble doing that.
@Goethewrote Uh...that bird you speak of? That bird is a known killer of humans- if it kicks you- and it will if given a chance, it has a claw like a velociraptor...and it can spill your intestines with one swift move. You might not be afraid of them, but I guarantee you, one will f#ck you up if you think you can waltz up to it and stick your tongue out.
I fed one of these today by hand and with no fence but I must note that it was sick and not quite fully grown and it was still in incrediable and possibly stupid risk lol
@Goethewrote hahahahahaha alright why dont you go up to one and attack it buddy and video tape it , and im the one that dosent belong to walk on this earth ? haha only a fucking idiot like you would say somthing like that cause all the smart people are SMART enough not to go near one, you know only since 2 people last year were killed by one last year in indoneisa , their stomach's were cut open from bieng kicked by their claws , why dont you man up go find one and try it if your so confident?
@Goethewrote haha my mom must of kicked your ass then , and also if u think ur so confident why dont you go out in the wild and approach one, see what will happen and you might be featured on the darwin awards this year
@Goethewrote lmfao i'd love to see you try bro, their claws on their feet will slice your stomach clean open if they kick you, which they will , my advice fight it with a gun
I've been there and seen Henry too! It was back in April 2008, I went through on the Oz bus tour. I was very impressed with the park, their croc feeding was far better than the one I saw at Australia Zoo.
I can't wait get back to Oz, hopefully I'll have enough money to head back in 2011.
"Dangerous cassowary" is redundant.

If they are herbivores, what's the evolutionary purpose of those HUGE claws?
eexecutionstylee 1 year ago
@eexecutionstylee - They're easier to paint.

@Jordmate yeah im from NSW, do biology n shit at uni, most of what he says is true, cassowarys are crazy hahaha, pretty violent.... for a bird
milkwasabadchoice131 1 year ago
the only safe place to view them is behind a fence, because they want to split anything open with there razor feet.
vsboy25 1 year ago
@vsboy25 I agree, they're the kind of birds you keep your distance from. I agree incredibly sharp feet!
