OMG what moron disliked this???? I love this song so much and if it's been a long time since I've heard it I actually cry I get so happy to hear it lol. :D
this was seminal... the girls bought this record... the recording utilized influence from the beatles wacky recording style. everything was the beatles- nobody could compare.
I'm 2 weeks older than Tommy James and lived the 60's with his music included. This IS my favorite recording by James & The Shondells. Great memories of a wonderful time in my life. Here's to you Tommy!
I love this song but no one I know ever seems to remember it. We have a hen that my son named Mirage and I always think of this song when someone mentions her or I call her. LOL
Where did the politics come from? Who knows? Tommy James only wrote only overtly political song I can think of - Sweet Cherry Wine. And that was probably more religious than political. Unless Hanky Panky can been seen as a lecture to Congress. But I doubt it.
This song makes me want to do some kind of funky dance. I'll never get sick of this song. I appreciate you posting this catchy song. I'm glad finding this on YouTube wasn't a mirage. I really heard it here & it's so freaking awesome.
Everybody seems to think that CD's are great....give me a vinyl with just a touch of popcorn and real STEREO!!!! Thanks for putting this on....thank goodness for You Tube and Sirus/XM 60's on 6.....sweet....
kick ass.. nothing better then hearing the sound of the needle on the record.. the best to get a person in the mood to have a good nite out with the boys.
@LOCKED121 LOL!! I know what you mean! I can still remember my babysitter's same 45, except hers had in thick black marker "C M" largely written on it !! What a great tune.
I have lived through 11 prez before the Oaf, left or right America kept plugging away! About the time Mirage came along we of the '50's were getting over the under your desk and bomb shelter drills do to Russia's ever present threat of nuclear war with us! We survived! Then Viet Nam comes along and tears the generations apart! Again we survive In comes O as close as you can come to a Commie, RUNNING THE US of A! Who needs a bomb when they have the OBOMBER? Mirage? WE WISH!!!
He is a mirage. I don't even think of him as president. When Stewart called him "dude" on the air, I knew even he (Stewart), had no respect for him. O talks one way, and acts 180 degrees to the left. He is a "citizen of the world" in his own words, not the president of the USA.
@radicright Pro-war Obama spends billions in U.S. tax dollars to invade sovereign nations in the middle east, forcing them to accept democracy as a form of government. We should accept the fact that not every nation will have a democracy like us. It's time to take care of America first, stop spending billions to try and turn the entire world into one big America. Obama will keep trying to form a one world government but Ron Paul will be there to stop him everytime!
@hectorsalinasisback: If only there were 100 million who thought as you did, the country would be on the right path. Unfortunately, too many "Americans" are too concerned about their government handouts to see the consecquences of Obama.
I bought this record as a Kid,still have it, still like it, thought i was the only one that knew about it. I was wrong. Glad to see others out there that appreciate it.
@turbo 1964 You are most welcome! One of the earlier posters on this thread had it right. Apparently when Dick Bartley released his CD, and included the stereo remix version they made, he too mentioned that there was no known copy of the original master of “Mirage” that existed.
At 2:08 in the song there is a "call and answer" sequence that was available ONLY on the mono 45 version. The stereo versions only contained the call portion and not the answer. On the Dick Bartley CD they remastered the song to be stereo and synced up the end with the mono 45 for a stereo remix that included the call and answer.
WOW!!! How can any TJ & S fan of the 1960's forget THIS one ?!! I almost want to say this came out about 1967. The song, and even the record label takes me back. LOVE IT !!!!
... This is 'I think we are alone now' backwards ... he said so on the 'Bob and Tom Show' ... that is so crazy , if you listen you can tell after you know it is backwards ... WILD STUFF !!!!!!!
The best of all of the Tommy James and the Shondells songs. I never tire of hearing this. RIght out of my senior year in high school. The best time to ever grow up.
Actually this is the same song as "I Think We're Alone Now", but the chords were played backwards. They wanted lightening to strike twice and it seemed to work, but not quite as well the second time around.
This song is often compared to "I think we're alone now", but between the two, I actually like this song better, even though "I think we're alone now" did better on the charts. Of course, I think both songs are great though.
I had the pleasure of seeing Tommy James and his current group of Shondells in concert recently. They did a great version of this song right at the end, just before a reprise performance of "Mony, Mony". I think that the 45 version you've got spinning here is different from any CD version that's ever been released, possibly due to a master copy no longer existing.
@VeeFan1964 I'm from Ambler, Pa & I have a real problem with the fact that WOGL doesn't play this song in their rotation. Up in Connecticut, they played it all of the time. Same goes with Bobby Vee. I'm 37 & I was only introduced to this music in the last couple of years. Nothing tops it...
I'm 18 so I know how you feel. WOGL sucks. Around ten years ago (when I was 8), we had two oldies stations, 98.1 and I forget the other one. They both played 50s and 60s music. Now ten years later, the one is gone and WOGL claims oldies to be 60s 70s and 80s. Bull****. They don't even play 60s most of the time! It's a joke and a waste of time. I can pull in a station from Trenton, NJ that plays mostly 50s and 60s....more to my liking but the reception is quite poor.
So I just read on Wikipedia that they accidentally played "I Think We're Alone Now" backwards and came out with this song.

JUST MADE IT... In 1967 "Mirage" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 10 weeks in the Top 100...
The record reached No. 2 on the Canadian pop chart...

Intended to buy I Think We're Alone.

The player was exactly like the one in the video.
The record looked soo cool spinning around,, I hardly noticed that it wasn't the song I thought I bought.
Thanks for the Memories!
