  • So I just read on Wikipedia that they accidentally played "I Think We're Alone Now" backwards and came out with this song.

  • I was definitely brought here by The Queers' cover.

  • @fahlerfreak Me too!

  • the final 30 seconds is like the cherry on the top of the sundae..truly scrumptious!!!

  • JUST MADE IT... In 1967 "Mirage" peaked at No. 10 thus just making the Billboard's Top 10 and it spent a total of 10 weeks in the Top 100...

The record reached No. 2 on the Canadian pop chart...

  • Wow, I forgot how good this is. How can you dislike this, you moron?

  • i love this song .....

  • OMG what moron disliked this???? I love this song so much and if it's been a long time since I've heard it I actually cry I get so happy to hear it lol. :D

  • pop music paradise!!!!

  • Does anyone know where I can find a digital copy of Gone Gone Gone?

  • this was seminal... the girls bought this record... the recording utilized influence from the beatles wacky recording style. everything was the beatles- nobody could compare.

  • @cshargeit Bull shit!

You don't know what your talking about.

  • I'm 2 weeks older than Tommy James and lived the 60's with his music included. This IS my favorite recording by James & The Shondells. Great memories of a wonderful time in my life. Here's to you Tommy!

  • 2 Minutes & 28 Seconds Of Pure Pop Paradise - One of the Greatest Sings Ever Pressed Into Vinyl, EVER

  • this and a song " she " both did receive brief notoriety ..

  • I love this song but no one I know ever seems to remember it. We have a hen that my son named Mirage and I always think of this song when someone mentions her or I call her. LOL

  • i freaking love this song.

  • Tommy James made some of the best music ever !

  • Hard to believe that Tommy James was only 19 or 20 when this was released. Amazing talent!

  • And doncha love seeing that groovy orange and yellow Roulette label spin 'round and 'round?

  • great 45! great sound!

  • Where did the politics come from? Who knows? Tommy James only wrote only overtly political song I can think of - Sweet Cherry Wine. And that was probably more religious than political. Unless Hanky Panky can been seen as a lecture to Congress. But I doubt it.

  • This song makes me want to do some kind of funky dance. I'll never get sick of this song. I appreciate you posting this catchy song. I'm glad finding this on YouTube wasn't a mirage. I really heard it here & it's so freaking awesome.

  • Love this song! Thanks for posting.

  • Everybody seems to think that CD's are great....give me a vinyl with just a touch of popcorn and real STEREO!!!! Thanks for putting this on....thank goodness for You Tube and Sirus/XM 60's on 6.....sweet....

  • Where did the politics come from??

  • Wait a Second!

  • This is great -- and this posters single is an original; later pressings lifted out the track containing the backup underneath Tommy

at the end of the song

  • made my day!!!

  • Thank You!!!!!!!

  • For God's sake people, it's a song, it has NOTHING to do with politics!!!

  • gotta hear the needle hitting the record.. best part

  • kick ass.. nothing better then hearing the sound of the needle on the record.. the best to get a person in the mood to have a good nite out with the boys.

  • @twprasher 2:04 starts sounding like the beach boys here

  • What is my Roulette 45 doing on that turntable? I thought I was the only one who had this and liked it. My favorite Tommy James tune. Good stuff!

  • @LOCKED121 LOL!! I know what you mean! I can still remember my babysitter's same 45, except hers had in thick black marker "C M" largely written on it !! What a great tune.

  • Hello! Your'e talking to 50's generation people. With all due respect sir, "gay" is not, or will ever be my "thing".

  • Look up The Queers Mirage. they do a kickass cover of this.

  • I have lived through 11 prez before the Oaf, left or right America kept plugging away! About the time Mirage came along we of the '50's were getting over the under your desk and bomb shelter drills do to Russia's ever present threat of nuclear war with us! We survived! Then Viet Nam comes along and tears the generations apart! Again we survive In comes O as close as you can come to a Commie, RUNNING THE US of A! Who needs a bomb when they have the OBOMBER? Mirage? WE WISH!!!

  • He is a mirage. I don't even think of him as president. When Stewart called him "dude" on the air, I knew even he (Stewart), had no respect for him. O talks one way, and acts 180 degrees to the left. He is a "citizen of the world" in his own words, not the president of the USA.

  • @radicright Pro-war Obama spends billions in U.S. tax dollars to invade sovereign nations in the middle east, forcing them to accept democracy as a form of government. We should accept the fact that not every nation will have a democracy like us. It's time to take care of America first, stop spending billions to try and turn the entire world into one big America. Obama will keep trying to form a one world government but Ron Paul will be there to stop him everytime!

  • @hectorsalinasisback: If only there were 100 million who thought as you did, the country would be on the right path. Unfortunately, too many "Americans" are too concerned about their government handouts to see the consecquences of Obama.

  • Somehow this song makes me think of President Obama. Not sure why. Can anybody explain this strange connection to me? ;)

  • Reminds me of an old girlfriend. She too, is just a mirage. And, I am sure that's all she wants to be.

  • Mirage...that's all you mean to me..

  • the best t.j. ever did. He put his whole heart into this. Too bad he went to drugs and tainted his rep.

  • one of the most revolutionary songs ever

  • I bought this record as a Kid,still have it, still like it, thought i was the only one that knew about it. I was wrong. Glad to see others out there that appreciate it.

  • nostalgia attack! thanx fer posting this!

  • My favourite! hard call to make tho. maybe I should say 'current favourite'

  • Cool lyrics, this one......you can hear the excitement in his voice. Probably had a real girlfriend he was thinking about when he sang this one.

  • tommy james very underated.

  • @turbo 1964 You are most welcome! One of the earlier posters on this thread had it right. Apparently when Dick Bartley released his CD, and included the stereo remix version they made, he too mentioned that there was no known copy of the original master of “Mirage” that existed.

  • At 2:08 in the song there is a "call and answer" sequence that was available ONLY on the mono 45 version. The stereo versions only contained the call portion and not the answer. On the Dick Bartley CD they remastered the song to be stereo and synced up the end with the mono 45 for a stereo remix that included the call and answer.

  • @rrrprod2 WOW - I knew there was something different. Thanks for pointing this out.

    Rock on!

  • WOW!!! How can any TJ & S fan of the 1960's forget THIS one ?!! I almost want to say this came out about 1967. The song, and even the record label takes me back. LOVE IT !!!!

  • @alans1960 Would you be Alan Shlesinger?

  • fuck memories, it's a good song right now

  • @Xaymot LOL

  • There can never be enough great stuff like this.

  • ... This is 'I think we are alone now' backwards ... he said so on the 'Bob and Tom Show' ... that is so crazy , if you listen you can tell after you know it is backwards ... WILD STUFF !!!!!!!

  • This is a great song...brings back the best. Thank you.

  • WOW, this song really brings back memories!!!!! Thanks for posting it! :)

  • Cool post ! Tommy has in his vault a few beatles Len/Mc songs that they wrote during a weekend visit with him. Hey Tommy- we're Ready !

  • This song is just "I Think We're Alone Now" in reverse, with a few extra flourishes. Tommy discovered it while playing the reel backwards.

  • @scottbaino : I am sorry I did not see your comment . Crazy stuff.

  • @scottbaino it sounds like hes trying to sound like sloop john b by the beach boys from pet sounds at 2:08

  • My fave Tommy James song...great audio...thank you!

  • The best of all of the Tommy James and the Shondells songs. I never tire of hearing this. RIght out of my senior year in high school. The best time to ever grow up.

  • It's been a long time since I heard this one..Thanks for posing it!

  • 1st 45 I ever bought.

Intended to buy I Think We're Alone.

Was surprised when I put the needle to the vinyl..

The player was exactly like the one in the video.

The record looked soo cool spinning around,, I hardly noticed that it wasn't the song I thought I bought.

    Thanks for the Memories!

  • Actually this is the same song as "I Think We're Alone Now", but the chords were played backwards. They wanted lightening to strike twice and it seemed to work, but not quite as well the second time around.

  • i haven't heard this version in a while..thanks for bringing this back:)

  • My all time favorite by Tommy James & Shondells..........Thanks so much for posting!

  • This song is often compared to "I think we're alone now", but between the two, I actually like this song better, even though "I think we're alone now" did better on the charts. Of course, I think both songs are great though.

  • Boy, the memories of the mid-sixties comes flooding back with this song. Great!

  • I had the pleasure of seeing Tommy James and his current group of Shondells in concert recently. They did a great version of this song right at the end, just before a reprise performance of "Mony, Mony". I think that the 45 version you've got spinning here is different from any CD version that's ever been released, possibly due to a master copy no longer existing.

  • @rslitman

In Glenside, PA??? I was there. AWESOME show!

  • @VeeFan1964 I'm from Ambler, Pa & I have a real problem with the fact that WOGL doesn't play this song in their rotation. Up in Connecticut, they played it all of the time. Same goes with Bobby Vee. I'm 37 & I was only introduced to this music in the last couple of years. Nothing tops it...

  • @jake83777

I'm 18 so I know how you feel. WOGL sucks. Around ten years ago (when I was 8), we had two oldies stations, 98.1 and I forget the other one. They both played 50s and 60s music. Now ten years later, the one is gone and WOGL claims oldies to be 60s 70s and 80s. Bull****. They don't even play 60s most of the time! It's a joke and a waste of time. I can pull in a station from Trenton, NJ that plays mostly 50s and 60s....more to my liking but the reception is quite poor.

  • One of the great pop songs with a cheesy effect :) Thanks for this
