  • Besides, his German translation from Latin was so full of errors. He even added words in his bible that were not from the original texts. Nobody uses his German translation bible today because of many errors. The Lutheran church, which obviously was named after him, does not even use Luther's German translation because of errors.

  • There were already 13 editions of the bible that were translated in German from the vulgate bible that were available for the German people to read. These editions existed years before Luther was even born. Your statements about finally the Germans can read the bible for themselves because Luther translated them from Latin is fallacious. Do hour homework before making such remarks. It's makes you look stupid.

  • I think all of the Popes of the Roman Catholic Church from Luthers time to this very day, are nothing but sinners because all they care about making money, fancy churches, popularity, highly expensive and papal ceremonies... Martin Luther said this "You don't need the institution of the church, nor the intersection of the priests, nor these extremely expensive ceremonies, just to get to Heaven. So therefore, this whole thing is not about you and the church, it's all about you and God"

  • i don't understand how people can be so blind... the corruption is right in front of their face and they defend the pope....

  • Cont: I still think the empowerment of the individual, the new freedom that filled people's lives away from the the Church's 1,500 years of dominance was the most important aspect that Luther provided the world. This is an awesome documentary about The Reformation. It's one of the best historical documentaries that I have ever seen. It's very interesting. You should check out Erich Fromm's book 'Escape from Freedom.' It ties the modern individual, freedom, Luther, & The Reformation together.

  • Cont: However, some say the influence of the Catholic Church in people's lives merely was transferred from the Church to the new Protestant religions. Still keeping religion very strong in many people's lives. So, Luther had empowered people in a secular way, in terms of freedom, but religion maintained its dominance in people's live's, still seen today.

  • It was in Germany even a shift to to princes and authorities of the Free Cities, when they became protestant, because they took over from Rome the control of the church.

At the end has been finally confirmed with Recess of Augsbug of 1555 - much to anger of the pope and Charles V.

  • Indeed. Luther's scholarship and steadfast stance against the Church, along with the advent of the printing press, really helped develop the modern individual, helping free the individual from the authority of the Catholic Church. Like you said, Luther's translation of the Bible from the traditional Latin texts into German gave a lot more people access to the Bible. His scholarship really empowered many people's lives and diminished huge power from the Church, which it has never gotten back.

  • Excellent.I am going through the series everyday.

  • Luther sounds like a very good statesman.

  • In truth he was a scholar and that is why the Papacy found the intellectual fight against him more difficult and the people were able to understand when he translated the Biblical books from Latin to German so that the common man could read and understand for himslef instead of the Papacy interpreting The Bible.
