This is quite different than private auto's. For one, much higher speed, and they have racing fuel which is much higher octane. You are still very unlikely to be involved in an accident where a car catches fire let alone explodes. I say this with over 25 years of experience on a large metropolitan fire dept.

You have to figure here that another car hits it at an incredible speed, and there was probably spilled high octane fuel on the ground already. The movie cliche is usually just a car i\sitting in place on fire which then explodes, usually destroying the whole car. That never, ever happens.

cars that we drive everyday would not explode like this. you have to take into consideration the higher octane fuel these cars use is highly more prone to "explosions" then our typical fuel used in everyday automobiles. to say tho there has been a few cars that have exploded but u get the general idea.
